Too nobile
In my city, for any reason, there are many magnolia trees. I mean, they are not originary from here (i believe they come from North America) but is one flower i have had around forever. In summer we always had magnolia flowers at home, one single flower in one teacup or any wide short glass. The water of the cup, after a couple days, was so strongly magnolia scented that i was trying to keep it in bottles, but it was always rottening soon and you could only use it for some days...

I really like the scent of magnolia: though intense and persistent, it is softly floral, milky and lemony at the same time, little bit sour... so i always wanted to find a convincing magnolia perfume.

Magnolia Nobile, as it is the trademark of Aqua di Parma (who normally features local ingredients from the Emilia-Romagna city) starts very citric. The lemon is very refreshing and bright, but not blinding, i find it enjoyable. The magnolia note blooms almost immediately, a bit aldehydic and heady first. The general feeling is (in this first stage) more a flowery classic cologne than a soliflore. I find the magnolia in MN to be rather authenthic, with this tart emanation along with the soft aquaeous flower scent. As the brightness of the citrus fades the fragance becomes more the soliflore i was aiming for. Magnolia is adorned by the fruitier facet of the rose, almost strawberry tinged. I don´t detect jasmine, but it could contain hedione. The tuberose is very soft and never competes with the magnolia, in any case adds depth. A lemony whiff stays. So far, great.

After a couple hours warm notes of wood and earthy vetiver arise. The floral notes are kept (the magnolia persists heroically and with it, a bit more noticeable tuberose but not a shiny one, and a bit insecticide rose) Then, although is well blended gets boring, and, hmmm, dated. Magnolia Nobile, after the freshness is gone, turns heavier, too proper, a little dull and old-fashioned.

I guess it is classy. And noble. I don´t hate it, i do not madly love it either, so lets leave it in a tie.

Lemon and magnolia
I was beyond excited to try this fragrance. I almost dreamt about it.

Magnolia Nobile does indeed start out citrusy and alcoholic, however the more it settles on the skin the better it becomes.

The magnolia is obviously a dominant note in this composition, however the lemony finish tends to override it ever so slightly. I was disappointed that the rose and jasmine were not as prominent. The woodsy notes tend to be the main focus in the heart and drydown.

I was honestly enjoying this delightful, Summery take on magnolia until it suddenly transformed into a big, strong, bathroom air-freshner type scent. Please don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, it's just not to my personal tastes.

The scent is very feminine, just not very young or lively. For such an expensive price tag and a niche label, I really did expect something a little better, perhaps more floral and rich.

Pleasant but trite floral
Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile follows the same pattern set down for Iris Nobile, which is to say: citrus + white flowers + light musk/woods base. Instead of iris, we have magnolia, which in real life smells like bright lemon notes, mixed with sweet whipping cream. In the Balkans, where I lived, every yard has one single magnolia tree, planted there as a sign of welcome. Or at least to say 'We will pause before taking out the shotgun'.

Magnolia Nobile dials up the citrus notes of the flower, and so the opening positively fizzes with snappy lemon and sweet orange peel. I like the opening a lot. The cream of the magnolia petals needs to be cut somehow, and this does the job. In fact, I wish the uplifting freshness could hang around a little longer. I'm not so keen on the creamy aspect of the flower that forms the heart.

To me, magnolia always smells a little too sweet and soapy. Unfortunately, in this particular example, it reminds me of an Impulse body spray I used when I was 19. Or a hand-soap, or a shampoo - I wish I could recall exactly. Either way, the smell association is there. Magnolia Nobile ends up smelling like a banal soap or shower gel or body spray that I used to buy in Marks and Spencers on Fridays with the money from my student grant that I hadn't spent on booze and cigarettes. Boring and juvenile, therefore, to a nose that is at least two decades past that awkward stage.

Mosquito Repellent
Does anybody else think this smells like mosquito repellent...? I think it's the lemon, perhaps it's a bit too strong. That was my first impression, but I still think it smells pretty good. Not a big fan of florals, but somehow the past four 1.5 ml samples I've gotten from Scentbird have been floral. I like them on other people, just not myself, so I'm giving this sample to my mom : )

Citrus Magnolia
Bright, fresh, and clean but almost veers into cleaning product territory, way too much bergamot and lemony citrus. Very strong though, which I appreciate. Just wish there was something extra to smooth it out, might layer beautifully with a basic sandalwood or even a warm vanilla. As is though it is just too sharp and jarring, but d*mn is it clean.

Cute but overpriced, 1:1 to L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia which you can get 100ml for much much cheaper.

Magnolia, tuberose and citrus notes are top notch, sadly in combination I am constantly reminded of an air freshener or cleaner.

I was hoping for realistic magnolia. But the lemon + tuberose = floor cleaner. A very posh floor cleaner. But floor cleaner, nevertheless.

I thought I would love it.
Overwhelming, exhausting, penetrating, soapy citrus-floral combo. Develops a metallic note.

There are scents that are simply beautiful: nothing more, nothing less. This one is magnolia behind a green-fruity veil.
