The edge of history
When the citrus masters of Acqua di Parma title their new cologne "Futura" and advertise it, the industry and fans alike sit up and take notice. What do the old-fashioned and actually always enormously timeless Italians understand by future-proof in "their" sector?

Basically just classic, minimally facelifted and with a new underbody. "Colonia Futura" is Italian class combined with fougerefreedom of bygone days and maybe minimal supercooled cyberattitude. But this last association can also only come from its name in my very special head cinema. But Genoa needs internet, too. Herbaceous, mossy, with more oomph in the cross, more wood behind the cabin. But without any doubt and instantly recognizable still a crystal clear Acqua di Parma. With all its strengths and weaknesses. Vetiverdrydown for which every stylish suit jumps in the triangle. Tart and yet inviting. Minimally rather masculine. Tingling dryness. Between Provence and Tuscany - there are worse nose holidays!

Flacon: Parma halt
Sillage: futuristic-minimalist
Durability: from hour 5 only a hint of drydown

Conclusion: the future is actually not much different than the past? People don't learn? Parma always works? History repeats itself? "Colonia Futura" is a constant pointer that well-made colognes will probably never go out of fashion... I heard it through the grapefruit vine

Back to the future
Time line switched on, target time programmed: 1916. Flux compensator running. Velocity to 140 kph.

Italy 1916 Acqua di Parma Colonia the original, a citric refreshing Eau de Cologne with a noble soapy note. The citrus notes come with the future, as part of the top note.

Switch on time line again, target time programmed: sometime in the early 80s. Flux compensator running. Velocity to 140 km/h.

The 80's known for hair on the chest and the powerhouse scents (and Knight Rider), masculine, tart, herbaceous and unthinkable without oak moss. The oakmoss has to go with and the tart herbaceous notes, with into the future!

Turn on the timeline again: in 2008, a visit to Mr. Frémont, who is currently presenting the final version of the most elegant vetiver fragrance to Mr. Ford, before it is released in 2009. This elegant version of vetiver (even more subtle than Guerlain's), green and slightly earthy without being swampy and musty, comes with it! Where to? Well, into the future!

And so the DeLorean ends up back here in the future.
Futura, has a citric, tart prelude, but unlike the original, it is not purely citric. Pink pepper and herbaceous notes make the difference here - altogether tart (maybe due to the grapefruit?!?). The herbs also dominate in the further course and oakmoss (in my opinion) is added. Futura seems like a tribute to the Fougere fragrances of days gone by combined with Italian elegance. What was rough, animalistic and tart in the 80s Powerhouse fragrances can be found here in a balanced and elegant form. Futura - adapted to today's image, back to the future, without trying to jump on a fragrance trend, without gummi bear scent and cotton candy, not youthful and not playful, simply masculine, tart, elegant. So is the Drydown, which is entirely based on a subtle, pleasant vetiver. The fragrance is said to consist of almost only natural components, purely from my perception it also comes across extremely natural (no rustling synthetics). The performance is still difficult to estimate. However, it is not a beast in terms of longevity.

All in all it is a very classic and elegant Fougere in which, in my opinion, the herbs and green notes dominate.

Armani's "Eau Pour Homme" with better endurance?
This fragrance could theoretically be called something else, for example, "Eredità della Colonia" (Colonia heritage) or "Colonia - Nuova Generazione" (Colonia - new generation). But the fragrance has rather less to do with a vision of the future. I suspect that the house wants to create a 2.0 version to the classic that many male as well as female stars wore in the early 20th century. Olfactorically, it's probably not enough to give the fragrance a completely new name. In the Blu Mediterraneo series, it also does not quite fit in and would probably go down there, because in the meantime all the colors for the different fonts on the bottle have been assigned. But back to the fragrance! The slightly feminine tendency that many associate with the Colonia classic, may have been the reason to market here a pure gentleman fragrance, although by now the term "unisex" must have arrived at each / marketing staff. In any case, the base of the new fragrance is the main difference from the classic. Here, the rose is exchanged for a rich load of woods, so that for the majority of noses a spicy, masculine scent with a fresh citrus kick-off can be perceived. There's no need to philosophize much about the perfect, citrusy kick-off with ADP. They've got that down and it's also in their tradition. Unlike many houses, they have understood (and probably experienced live with their dear grandparents in the country) what a real lemon smells like - a lemon that doesn't make it to our supermarket shelves, but doesn't make it to the supermarket recall because of its rough, blotchy peel as well as its small appearance. The scent is strongly reminiscent of the Armani classic "Eau Pour Homme", which has lasted just as long as the scent of many a hand soap from the drugstore since it was reformulated. For a little more budget, you get a real alternative here with quality and significantly longer endurance. It's also clear that you can't expect marathon durability with such colognes, especially since (hopefully) no extreme synthetics are used here, which would otherwise artificially dope the scent. Curious I am also on the assessment of one of the top Parfumo reviewers, who lives in a love-hate relationship with the Armani classic due to the poor endurance ;)

Occasion
The fragrance has the potential as an all-rounder and makes a good figure both on festive occasions and in the higher floors of a company.

Season
All-rounder candidate, but if you have to put him in a drawer, then it would probably rather the sunny transitional season as well as summer.

Stereotype wearer
Rather male, 40+, grounded, stylish, knows no T-shirts, but only shirts, now and then possibly polo shirts or short-sleeved shirts, dares no experiments, lives in his successful routine, on his fragrance shelf are very few perfumes, flacons in the form of fists, gold bars, cups or dumbbells, he does not know.

Conclusion
A great Colonia fragrance, classically interpreted with a great, spicy wood base.

Eau sauvage dethroned!
I completely get the comparison to eau sauvage but this is so much better on my opinion. Maybe eau sauvage before reformulation? But not the current eau sauvage.
Initial opening has this crisp bright herbaceous citrous punch. Very uplifting and refreshing. After 15 minutes the middle notes come out to play with the top notes. The herbs and spices reveal themselves with a green welcome, a bit of florals too, maybe geranium or a slight light sour rose? Then when it settles and starts to dry down, you feel the lavender and sage wrapping everything so beautifully and set its course on a bedding of vetiver and very faint white musk.

It is a happy scent. I normally don't like old school green scents but this one made me change my mind. I am happy that i have it in my collection.

is “Futura” the right word?
I found a great deal on this fragrance so I couldn’t help to jump into the deal with a lot of expectations. There were some good reviews on youtube but I gotta say it was Max Forti’s what made me go for it as he praised it and pretty much sold it. I gotta say I have to agree with pretty much everything he said.

First off, what’s with the name, “Future cologne”? not really, it’s a modern interpretation of an older style cologne which regardless how inaccurate the name sounds is a great concept and I gotta say the execution is flawless! Colonia Futura opens gorgeously with lemon and a juicy grapefruit and you also get a lavender and sage combo that gives that old school vibe and the coup de grace is the earthy vetiver that provides a backbone to the composition so, as far as the scent goes it’s one of my favorite ADPs but where I have to disagree with Max is in the performance department. He mentioned this was very long lasting and would easily last all day well, at least from my personal experience it hardly gets to the 6th hour as fading skin scent but we all know frags perform differently to everyone so there’s that.

Colonia Futura is an amazing scent if you don’t mind reapplying or perhaps wearing it for a meeting only or a lunch or something like that and I wouldn’t recommend it for people below 30’s.

Colonia Futura should be called Colonia Passada.
A pungent, slightly green, bitter bergamot that then turns into a round balsamic lavender

Great citrusy green fougere, made by the one and the only Demachy. Quite modern yet keeps the classic character, for sure! Great quality!
