is “Futura” the right word?
I found a great deal on this fragrance so I couldn’t help to jump into the deal with a lot of expectations. There were some good reviews on youtube but I gotta say it was Max Forti’s what made me go for it as he praised it and pretty much sold it. I gotta say I have to agree with pretty much everything he said.

First off, what’s with the name, “Future cologne”? not really, it’s a modern interpretation of an older style cologne which regardless how inaccurate the name sounds is a great concept and I gotta say the execution is flawless! Colonia Futura opens gorgeously with lemon and a juicy grapefruit and you also get a lavender and sage combo that gives that old school vibe and the coup de grace is the earthy vetiver that provides a backbone to the composition so, as far as the scent goes it’s one of my favorite ADPs but where I have to disagree with Max is in the performance department. He mentioned this was very long lasting and would easily last all day well, at least from my personal experience it hardly gets to the 6th hour as fading skin scent but we all know frags perform differently to everyone so there’s that.

Colonia Futura is an amazing scent if you don’t mind reapplying or perhaps wearing it for a meeting only or a lunch or something like that and I wouldn’t recommend it for people below 30’s.

Colonia Futura: Tweaking a classic
I really enjoy AdP's Colonia and want to explore other offerings and this one caught my eye. Enter Colonia Futura. While Colonia and Futura are similar on paper, they interestingly different.

Opens with a zesty lemon citrus note on the top with some spicy green herbal notes. Turns to lavender at the heart, complimenting the top notes. You can find the earthy vetiver pop up on at the end.

Simple but really good. In comparison to Colonia, Futura doesn't come off as soapy. Of course, as with other AdP scents, longevity and sillage is not its strong suit.

Advantage through History
When the citrus masters of Acqua di Parma name and promote their new Cologne "Futura," both the industry and fans take notice. What do the old-fashioned yet always incredibly timeless Italians understand by future-proof in "their" sector?

Basically, just classic, minimally facelifted and with a new foundation. "Colonia Futura" is Italian class combined with the fougere-free essence of days gone by and perhaps a minimal cool cyber attitude. But this last association may only arise in my very special mental cinema due to its name. But even Genoa needs the internet. Herbal, mossy, with more oomph in the back, more wood behind the house. But without any doubt and immediately recognizable as a crystal-clear Acqua di Parma. With all its strengths and weaknesses. Vetiver dry down for which every stylish suit jumps in a triangle. Bitter yet inviting. Minimal, rather masculine. Sparkling dryness. Between Provence and Tuscany - there are worse nose holidays!

Bottle: Parma, of course
Sillage: futuristic-minimalistic
Longevity: after hour 5 only a hint of dry down

Conclusion: is the future really not much different from the past? Do people not learn? Does Parma always work? History repeats itself? "Colonia Futura" is a constant reminder that well-made colognes will probably never go out of style… I heard it through the Grapefruit vine.

Back to the Future
Time travel activated, destination set: 1916. Flux capacitor running. Speed set to 140 km/h.

Italy 1916 Acqua di Parma Colonia the original, a citrusy refreshing Eau de Cologne with a noble soapy note. The citrus notes come along into the future as part of the top note.

Time travel activated again, destination set: sometime in the early 80s. Flux capacitor running. Speed set to 140 km/h.

The 80s, known for chest hair and powerhouse fragrances (and Knight Rider), masculine, herbal, and unthinkable without oakmoss. The oakmoss must come along, and the bitter herbal notes must come into the future!

Activating time travel again: 2008, a visit to Mr. Frémont, who is just presenting the final version of the most elegant vetiver fragrance to Mr. Ford before it is released in 2009. This elegant type of vetiver (even more subtle than at Guerlain), green and slightly earthy without being boggy and musty, is coming along! Where to? Well, into the future!

And so the DeLorean lands back here in the future.
Futura has a citrusy, bitter opening, which, unlike the original, is not purely citrusy; pink pepper and herbal notes make the difference here - overall more bitter (perhaps also due to the grapefruit?!?). The herbs also dominate in the further development, and oakmoss (in my perception) comes into play. Futura feels like a homage to the fougere fragrances of yesteryear combined with Italian elegance. What was rough, animalistic, and bitter in the 80s powerhouse fragrances can be found here in a balanced and elegant form. Futura - adapted to today's image, back to the future, without attempting to jump on a fragrance trend, without gummy bear scent and cotton candy, not youthful and not playful, simply masculine, bitter, elegant. The drydown is also entirely based on a subtle, pleasant vetiver. The fragrance supposedly consists of almost entirely natural components, and from my perception, it comes across as extremely natural (no prominent synthetics). I still find it difficult to assess the performance. However, it is not a beast in terms of longevity.

All in all, it is a very classic and elegant fougere where, in my view, the herbs and green notes dominate.

Armani's "Eau Pour Homme" with better longevity?
This fragrance could theoretically be called something else, for example "Eredità della Colonia" (Heritage of the Cologne) or "Colonia - Nuova Generazione" (Cologne - New Generation). But it has less to do with a vision for the future. I suspect that the house wants to create a 2.0 version of the classic that many male and female stars wore in the early 20th century. Olfactorily, it probably isn't enough to give the fragrance a completely new name. It also doesn't quite fit into the Blu Mediterraneo line and would likely get lost there, as all colors for the different labels on the bottle have already been assigned. But back to the scent! The slightly feminine tendency that many associate with the Colonia classic was probably the reason to market a pure gentlemen's fragrance here, even though the term "unisex" should have reached every marketing employee by now. In any case, the base of the new fragrance is the essential difference from the classic. Here, the rose is replaced with a rich load of woods, resulting in a spicy, masculine scent with a fresh citrus kick-off for the majority of noses. One doesn't need to philosophize much about the perfect citrus opening at ADP. They have mastered that, and it's part of their tradition. Unlike many houses, they have understood (and probably also experienced live with dear grandparents in the countryside) how a real lemon smells - a lemon that doesn't make it to our supermarket shelves, but due to its rough, speckled skin and small appearance, fails to make the supermarket recall. The scent progression is strongly reminiscent of the Armani classic "Eau Pour Homme," which has held up just as long since its reformulation as the scent of some hand soaps from the drugstore. For a bit more budget, you get a real alternative with quality and significantly longer longevity here. It is also clear that one shouldn't expect marathon durability from such colognes, especially since (hopefully) no extreme synthetics are used that would otherwise artificially boost the scent. I am also curious about the review from one of the top Parfumo reviewers, who lives in a love-hate relationship with the Armani classic due to its poor longevity. ;)

Occasion
The fragrance has the potential to be an all-rounder and makes a good impression both at festive occasions and in the higher echelons of a business.

Season
All-rounder candidate, but if it has to be categorized, it would probably be more suited for the sunny transitional period as well as summer.

Stereotypical wearer
Rather male, 40+, grounded, stylish, knows no T-shirts, only shirts, occasionally perhaps polo shirts or short-sleeved shirts, doesn't dare to experiment, lives in his successful routine, has very few perfumes on his fragrance shelf, and is unfamiliar with bottles shaped like fists, gold bars, trophies, or dumbbells.

Conclusion
A great cologne scent, classically interpreted with a wonderful, spicy wood base.

The future smells like lavender incense and smokey vetiver. Unexpected. Versatile.

Colonia Futura should be called Colonia Passada.
A pungent, slightly green, bitter bergamot that then turns into a round balsamic lavender

Great citrusy green fougere, made by the one and the only Demachy. Quite modern yet keeps the classic character, for sure! Great quality!

Fresh vetiver. Unusual sillage and longevity for this brand and citrusy-type fragrance

Its nice enough - a slightly richer summer style, but fades fast with little projection after 30min

A calm green-fresh scent with a hint of spice. Vetiver is barely noticeable. Unfortunately, it remains somewhat undefined overall.

Bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, and wood are in the spotlight, but I can't perceive the vetiver, which I find disappointing.

One can't say anything other than that AdP has created another beautiful fresh scent, this time herbal-spicy-citrusy.
