The Noble Often Plays in the Shadows
I’ve been circling around this scent for a long time. It hasn’t really taken off here, and I’m in doubt whether it’s generally popular. It remains very modest and unobtrusive, especially for a floral fragrance. There’s nothing opulent about it. But that’s precisely what makes it very likable to me.
The composition is quickly explained: For me, it’s not so much the lavender that stands out, but rather the noble cool rose. You shouldn’t imagine it in full, lush bloom, but rather dimmed and understated. It doesn’t shine from a magnificent floral arrangement but rather hangs down from a wild hedge that late summer has already somewhat faded and dried out. Here, the aroma doesn’t explode; instead, a noble hint of it shimmers. You could almost call it bitter. This gives the perfume a very restrained aura, which, through this dry aspect, emphasizes the mature, timeless casualness. I really like that. I definitely find it British.
But of course, there is lavender in this scent. It has a rather sweet disposition and gives the rose a bit of the fullness that it doesn’t want to show itself. There’s also another player, a diffuse green, herbal accord that cools and sobers everything up even more. Whether it’s mint or eucalyptus, something grassy or leafy green, it’s not precisely discernible. It definitely gives the whole thing a decisive twist. Those who know “You or someone like you” from ELDO might find a much less flashy, much darker relative here.
The base is not particularly powerful. There’s wood, but it’s more present in twig strength than in trunk strength. It provides the appropriate extension but doesn’t really support the scent. Thus, the fragrance remains very fine in texture and doesn’t get much heavier towards the end than at the beginning.
I just noticed that I wrote earlier: “The composition is quickly explained.” It turns out it wasn’t. I can wholeheartedly recommend “Lavender on the rocks” to you all. A quiet, good representative of the sparsely populated faction of slim, slightly floral perfumes that also work very well on men.

It started so wonderfully....
Lavender and rose - a dream team in itself. Components that invite you to dive in. In this case, rather a belly flop. Everything a bit too loud, too synthetic, too harsh - just not rounded enough for my dramatic nose. Such a shame - I was so optimistic....

Coolly Herbal
The lavender makes its appearance. Quite quickly, however, it becomes softer and slightly herbal. After a while, a very gentle powder emerges as if an iris had walked through the water. The heart note presents itself as floral-powdery-herbal. I like that a lot. The powderiness eventually fades away, and a light woodiness comes in. I mainly perceive all these notes directly on the skin. In the sillage, the cool-herbal experience seems to last longer.

Then I go out with the dog. And because I am very afraid of ticks, I spray my arms and legs with a repellent, and the perfume is gone.

Many hours later, I catch a gentle floral-woody note: lavender, rose, and the woods come back to mind. My nose searches and finds a soft rosy hint on my wrists, and from my T-shirt, remnants of lavender and woody notes waft towards me.

For this sultry-warm-thundery weather, I find the scent almost perfect. On cooler days, I probably wouldn’t want to wear it. Used sparingly, I can also imagine "Lavender on the Rocks" as a great office scent.
It doesn't evoke a "must-have" feeling for me. Once I have used up my sample, our paths will likely part. There are other Atkinsons that have piqued my curiosity.

The spark, pardon the scent, doesn't ignite
When I registered here just over a year ago, I had maybe 10 samples. Now there are more than 200 (untested) and whenever I test one, two new ones come in. I wish that were the case with my account as well, where my membership is rather noticeable in the red. Despite the many samples, I occasionally order some from ALZD, including Lavender on the Rocks, because one fragrance ingredient immediately electrified me: lavender! I naturally liked the name right away. Moreover, I really enjoyed The Odd Fellow’s Bouquet, so the Atkinsons brand is positively stored in my memory.

Yesterday and today, I finally had the time and inclination to test Lavender on the Rocks. The opening was a bit disappointing; I thought of a men's shower gel, fresh, sporty, and aquatic, something I've smelled a thousand times before. After a few minutes, the scent becomes spicy and floral, the lavender is present and won't let itself be overshadowed. I also perceive a minty, herbal sharpness, and now I like the scent much better. At this stage, Lavender on the Rocks lingers quite a while; the cooling freshness doesn't fade, but the scent becomes increasingly woody until it fades away.

Lavender on the Rocks is a fresh, distinguished companion for both men and women in the warm months; the sillage is medium and the longevity is good. It is not a candidate for purchase for me; it lacks the igniting spark, and I waver between 70% and 80%. It stays at 70%; I expected a bit more.

English ghost story in a bottle.
Pale rose is spectrally summoned with lavender, misty herbs make the bell ring.

Lavender, cool, fresh, and clear, accompanied by rose, subtly greened and woody. As uncomplicated as it is beautiful. Oud is thankfully absent.

Lavender fresh from the freezer. Melts in the wooden vase filled with rose water. Leaves a magical, slightly minty hint!

Very successful lavender scent. The woody base fits very well. A little rose in between. I don't smell oud.

Very clean, fresh lavender. Reduced to everything herbal, like in a lab. A slight bitterness remains. Unfortunately, it feels a bit bland.

A classic all-rounder. Herbal, grassy, with a good amount of lavender in the heart and a dry woody base.
