Hello from the other side
After reading some statements here, finding the notes of the fragrance very, very appealing and interesting, and being open to new experiences, I set off today to the perfumery I trust to test The Other Side Of Oud.
On the test strip, it didn't smell very appealing; it simply had to go on the skin. Once applied, I first noticed a substantial dose of coffee and spiciness. Wow!
The coffee was so unusual and new (as a perfume) for me that I fell in love at once. It didn't just smell like coffee; it also had something very sharp and spicy about it. Nothing that would overwhelm you; if it were a dish, I certainly wouldn't say "Caution, spicy!", but it definitely had a very rich pep.
After about a 5-minute coffee orgasm, however, the first disappointment followed: a massive sweetness emerged that I neither expected nor wanted. This sweet, almost intrusive scent pushed even the slightest hint of spiciness into the background: I could no longer detect cinnamon or cardamom, and the coffee was completely gone, leaving only an overwhelming vanilla paired with some sort of pseudo-freshness followed by floral notes. I could still faintly detect ginger, but not very strongly. Honestly, there was no trace of oud; I just couldn't smell it.
The longevity is above average, definitely. I sprayed the fragrance on 7 hours ago, and it is still holding on very strongly, just not that wonderful coffee-spice mixture, but rather the strange sweet-sporty scent. The sillage is also excellent; there's nothing to complain about.
And may you have mercy on me and not throw me to the lions for (very sweet) fodder: but for the past 7 hours, I've been wondering what this fragrance might remind me of... and now I know: Boss In Motion. That round silver bottle with an orange stripe in the middle. Exactly that scent, just about 10,000 times stronger.
I had the sample decanted and will definitely wear the fragrance to work, but I would most likely not buy this scent.
