Surprisingly good flanker
I was not expecting this one to be this good. With a desperate flanker name like "Parfum Intense" it just feels like they're clutching at straws for this line to be relevant. And honestly, it hasn't been since Hero Eau de Toilette was released, and that's only because that's a cut rate version of Dior Homme (2020) Eau de Toilette. The EDP and Parfum are just department store filler amberwoods.

And admittedly, the drydown here is not complex and kinda just goes the same path as Hero Parfum. But the opening is crazy. Super smoky leather and vanilla - "Le Vestiaire - Babycat | Yves Saint Laurent" vibes, morphing into a really nice woody mid. There is always that sharp maltol sweetness lingering around though. Like I said, the base gets a bit generic, but holding it up to my nose I can still get the some of the smoky embers of the powerful opening remaining.

Performance is quite good, projecting immensely in the first hour or two then settling on skin for another 6-8. Usually these kinds of smoky leather frags are not for youngsters but the aforementioned sweet maltol really youth-ifies it and I could see a particularly edgy teenager rocking this at school (like I did Bvlgari Black back in the day ). I'm sure this one's gonna fly right under everyone's radar because it's a blandly-named flanker in a super boring line but it is definitely worth a try.

Edit: my pricing rating is based on what I'm predicting the discounter price to be at a few months from now. You can find Hero Parfum for around $50 on discounters and I assume this will be the same.

Edit 2: this one stayed on me all night and well into the morning when I took a shower. Updating my longevity rating because this is BEASTLY

My Lumber Lord's Love Log
Burberry Hero Parfum Intense unfolds like dusty amber tobacco nestled in a mahogany humidor, cedar oils so intense they conjure a romance novel Fabio carved entirely from fragrant wood; golden resin pooling in the grain of his impossible biceps, abs you could grate cheese on if they weren't made of aromatic cedar, pectorals broad enough to land a helicopter if they weren't so heavily forested with sawdust, a sprinkle of black pepper-like errant chest hairs poking through his unlaced pirate blouse. Thighs like ancient oak trunks offering not seduction but the domestic comfort of a Snuggie, strong arms thick as timber promising Calgon-take-me-away escape, the performative masculinity of rippling wooden muscles dissolving into something unexpectedly nurturing, pipe tobacco sweetness without the acrid burn, fragrant wood shavings soft enough to curl up against those carved shoulders. Fragrance as guilty pleasure romance novel, the kind you read alone in Cheeto-stained sweatpants: Johanna Lindsey's never published My Lumber Lord's Love Log.

The Hero Family
I'm testing the four Hero scents: EdT, EdP, Parfum, Parfum Intense on consecutive days. I came into this somewhat concerned about the cedar notes - if any of them would smell like hamster bedding or cedar mulch. I'm happy to report that none of them are that way. The cedar is there but it's blended well with the other notes so there's no hint of the mulch scent. I was also curious about the Hero line because it's frequently recommended in the Fragrantica men's forum.

Hero EdT starts out with nice citrus and some pepper. The pepper is not overly strong, more subtle. It quickly dries down into a very nice, masculine woody scent with a touch of the cedar, done just right and only very subtle sweetness. (As I said above, no overwhelming cedar mulch scent.) The scent is very pleasant - I can't imagine anyone (wearer or smeller) being offended by it - making it very versatile for any occasion, time of year, day or night. It didn't seem synthetic to me. Performance, unfortunately, is rather poor. I didn't get more than 5 hours out of it and projection was very weak after about 30 minutes. It might still be useful for a guy in a profession that only allows "barely there" fragrances such as medical, etc.

Hero EdP is very similar to the EdT, only stronger. My description of the EdT above would apply to the EdP except for the following: the EdP struck me as a bit sweeter than the EdT; it also was a clearly synthetic scent to my nose. Performance was much better with the longevity being around 7 to 8 hours with decent projection for a couple of hours. Because of the noticeable departure from the EdT in sweetness and the synthetic smell, I didn't care for it.

Hero Parfum - now here's the real winner for me. Seemed identical to the EdT, with only subtle sweetness and no synthetic smell, as described above for the EdT. The performance was much better than either the EdT or EdP. Longevity was around 10 hours with good projection for about 3 hours. Out of the four, I really liked the Parfum and it would definitely make an easy, versatile reach for any guy. I'd like to get a FB of this. Currently, at Jomashop, 50ml is going for $75 and there's even 200ml available for $100.

Hero Parfum Intense (the newest; released in 2025) does a 180 from the EdT, EdP and Parfum. It is not a woody scent but a leather scent. If you're looking for a woody fragrance, you don't have to bother with Parfum Intense. It opens differently from the others- with a strong pepper that is almost overpowering. I'd say it's a notch down from the strong pepper in Toy Boy. As it dries down, the pepper diminishes, and the woody cedar "Hero" scent makes a brief appearance in the foreground. That doesn't last and soon a dry leather scent dominates. Under the leather, there's a subtle foundation of the woody cedar and even some of the pepper, but the leader here is the leather. Performance is superb. Longevity for well over 12 hours with projection being room filling. It can be tamed by doing perhaps 1 spritz on the chest with your shirt dampening it. However, if you want noses to know you've walked into the room, you can spray away. As a leather scent, however, it didn't really make an impression.

Hero Elixir de Parfum (2026 release) was not available to me as a sample. I'll probably test it eventually however it also seems to have taken the leather route as the Parfum Intense.

Smirky's rating (as of February 2026):
1. Hero Parfum - Nice, masculine woody scent. Not profound, but easy reach and versatile.
2. Hero EdT - Same as the Parfum only weaker. Good if you need something subtle.
3. Hero EdP - Deviates slightly from the DNA. Sweeter and synthetic.
4. Hero Parfum Intense - mediocre leather

The Reappearing Hero... That Saves Nothing
New name, new outfit, same "hero". That's how I would sum up Hero Parfum Intense. When put side-by-side with its preceding flanker, Hero Parfum, the Intense version adds two new ingredients to a recipe that was already headed towards certain failure. Of course, if you ask most people that have smelt both or either, they'll probably say, "But it smells good, there is no failure", and that alone is the reason why Burberry's Hero line should've been called "Villain".

The structure itself is largely the same here as on Hero Parfum, that being the tried-and-tried sweet amberwood designer sludge. Hero Parfum Intense does add some black pepper spice at the opening as part of one of the two new ingredients, accompanied by a synthetic undertone as always. To my nose, there's absolutely nothing pungent about the black pepper here as others have complained about. It's literally just... spice. And that is immediately sweetened and warmed up by some amyris, pairing its faintest balsamic touches with some dry woodiness from the cedarwood. Now, I did not find any cypriol in Hero Parfum, but on the Intense I do get mild hints of it, yet it is still difficult to pinpoint on its own.

The second and final new addition that Hero Parfum Intense brings is leather. I'm sure that many got their hopes up when they saw that, as if that was the answer supposed to give this flanker some more character than its predecessor. However, I would hesitate calling this a leather-forward scent, as the leather does show up for the first two-three hours, adding its warm and grounding quality to the composition, but afterwards the generic amberwoody sweetness takes over the wheel. It's pretty much the same magic trick done with two extra card shuffles, insisting upon itself that it's a different trick. But to what avail, if the outcome is the same?

At least the 'Intense' does actually mean slightly better performance, although that applies to longevity mostly on my skin, reaching about 12-13 hours which is a good couple of extra hours than on the non-intense flanker. But for projection, I was still quite impressed seeing it so soft. The first hour kept it at a pretty constant 2 feet of projection, but it would just settle quite quickly afterwards, reaching a skin scent by hour 4. Again, my skin chemistry is probably to blame.

For versatility, it's the same story as with Hero Parfum, or any other amberwood designer crap, really. It's easy to wear because it was made to be easy to wear anywhere. Maybe not so much during the summer given it's sweeter, and especially if it actually turns out intense on your skin.

I find it ironic how this whole series is called "Hero", yet they do anything but what a true hero does. In fragrance terms, especially on the designer scene, a hero would be a fragrance that isn't afraid to be different and to stand out; to offer a composition which might be called "bold" or "risky". A composition that expresses originality and brings some character to an otherwise characterless and stale market. I know that's not what designers do - the whole point here is to be as mass-appealing as possible to generate the most sales possible. But that way, I feel that perfumery is being... stopped in place, without actually moving forward. Settling for the easy way out instead of searching for innovative ways to truly keep the afficionados engaged, and not just paying social media influencers to hype up your new flanker with one-two changes done from the previous one. If the prices at least reflected the actual product you're paying for, but of course, you pay for the brand...

Best Hero so far
Hero Parfum Intense presents a rich, smoky, leathery, sweet, vanillic and woody scent that is ideally suited for winter and autumn.

It is notably strong and carries a nutty undertone, with the leather initially giving off a gasoline-like aroma that gradually fades away. This leans towards the niche market, and many may not appreciate it, especially during the opening and mid stages.

This fragrance is loaded with vanilla in the dry down and is quite heavy. A maximum of 3 sprays is sufficient, as more could lead to an overwhelming and potentially nauseating experience. I believe it might even surpass other well-known elixirs in strength.

Although leather scents are not usually my preference, this one distinguishes itself as something rather different. The only downside is it's somewhat linear; I would have preferred a bit more complexity, but it still holds its own as it is.

Initially, I received a tester sample and found it somewhat unexciting. However, I kept coming back to it, I couldn't stop smelling the tester strip; it possesses an addictive quality, especially for those who appreciate very dark fragrances.

Standard amberwoody core saved in extremis by neutered cypriol and leather. At least they tried. Amazing, compared to the last PdM trio! :D

Basically Hero Parfum but with a lightly peppery opening, faint warm cypriol, and tame leather base. Still hollow and boring.

Simple, masculine, and linear. A safe woody-spicy scent with no surprises—solid but forgettable.

Smells very similar to Eau d’Ombre Leather.

Besides top longevity there’s not much to say. Decent suedy mass pleaser.
For someone who wants to declare his boringness (for a whole day)

Meaningless fixative bomb of anger. Be careful not to get this on your jacket. It irritates for days and overpowers your daytime scent.

At first, surprisingly beautiful TF Eau d'Ombre Leather Hommage, but then the nasty scratchy Ambrocenide base comes in, lasting forever.

In the opening, sweet (coconut??) for about 30 seconds, then peppery-woody leather. New car scent. Very pleasant. Softer than TF OL perfume.
