Maaaaaamaaaaaa, who died and was left to rot?
No, kiddos! This is the ultimate no-go. Help, I always thought pomace stinks, but Pulp tops even that.

Whoever detects something fruity here must have a disturbed sense of smell. SORRY, no offense, don't take it personal. This here is simply a mashed fruitbasket, left to rot for four days. The flies are buzzing around.

To make things worse a bitter note comes through, not being able to get rid of the allover rotten smell. And it has a staying power that devils brew. I really had problems to clean the back of my hand of the smell without rubbing the skin of.

No, thank you, not for me.

And thank you, Antoine, for the tester.

A bit of balance.
I'm testing this stuff right at the moment. My opinion could change by tomorrow.

I'm in the middle of testing quite a few of the Byredo line, Pulp definitely stands out in terms of sillage. The other scents to test just could not compete. This leads me to think that it is very difficult to be ambivalent to this fragrance.

I'm not sure about fig, I find it a very difficult note, in that I cannot decide if I like of hate it. The opening of Pulp is bombastic and demands of the attention. A combination of Bergamot and the the Fig assaulting the senses. It was a close call whether I washed the stuff off, but I persevered. Currently I'm experiencing something sweet and green, not unpleasant.

I think I'll try this one again.

Decomposition of fruit
Not a nice title I know. I grew up in Spain and we used to have lots of citrus fruit trees, all of the fruit that had fallen off the trees was piled up at the bottom of the garden. This smells like this pile of fruit. I guess this is why I love it. It reminds me of happy places and that's what fragrance is all about. Its really the opening that's hard to digest but it settles down nicely. This is in my 2021 summer fragrance wardrobe and great to wear on a summers evening. Go easy on the trigger and it's lovely. Lasts for a long time too.

The fruit garden....
Before trying this, I didn't know what to expect. I heard things like "rotten fruit" and I wondered if this would be worth even trying at all. I was pleasantly surprised!

What I get from this actually, is almost the smell of (like the name) pulp. Fruit pulp. For me it's Mango pulp, and it's a smell I actually really like. I do also get apple and citrus in there, and some grape etc.

This is one I would recommend to people who like fruit and freshness. I do feel that it is a very cleverly made perfume and one which is composed intelligently. I would recommend it and would advise to try out first in good weather. I think this would be suitable for year round and would say that it is unisex. This is the smell of very ripe fruit up close. But it also has a balance which can only come from a well made perfume. One to try for sure. I thoroughly enjoy it.

Sweet decadence
Pulp is a journey that starts at the final destination –the proverbial six feet under– with the last stages of decay and decomposition not happening underground but on our skin and under our nose. Straight out of the sprayer the figs, apples and berries are already way past their prime and beginning to soak in their own morbid, pungent syrupy juice. The challenging opening seems to veer quickly from somewhat pleasant fermenting booze to rancid fridge tray.

Then, just like footage running backwards all the fruits and flowers quickly come back to life. Caught in this reverse chronology blackcurrant leaves turn green, soft and fresh, figs sparkle with morning dew and the skin on the red apples shines again under the sun. The first stages of the dry down arrive like spring after a long winter and finally deliver on the promise of a sweet and juicy scent.

For me the end result was well worth the ride on this strange backwards journey.

DIY recipe: leave some figs and red apples under the sun. Return 2 weeks later with a scoop and an empty flacon labelled "Pulp". I love it.

Imagine fruits that are overripe, almost tipping over to being inedible andThat slightly alcoholic hint you get from them. That's Pulp to me

Beautiful blast of warm, ripe fruits. Sort of tart. Projects nicely, good longevity. Linear.
