Of Rubber, Asphalt, Cherries, and Old Acquaintances
How does one come across a fragrance like 1000 Miglia Chrono? This gem doesn't appear on any TOP10 fall-scents-to-get-the-ladies-reactions YouTube list, nor in any public advertising campaigns, and a mere 32 Parfumo members own it. Only bright spots like DJ Love have even fewer owners, but that's only because no one wants to admit it.
It was the Instagram post of a former Parfumo member, highly popular in the community for his humorous reviews, that led me to this pearl. If I were to mention his name in the title, I would already be guaranteed 20 trophies just for that. At this point, respect is due - if you're still quietly reading.
I couldn't get a sample, so I was tempted into a blind purchase, which I justified to my better half for 20 EUR.
And I definitely do not regret it. Even the bottle, handy and heavy, with a satisfyingly clicking plastic rubber cap resembling a car tire, puts many minimalist Guerlains to shame. The atomizer, by the way, performs its duty for 1000 Miglia Chrono rather timidly; a bit more courage in the spray would not have hurt.
The scent itself starts off subtly sweet and powdery. I also associate cherries, albeit much more restrained, abstract, and synthetic than in "L'Homme Idéal (Eau de Parfum) | Guerlain," "Red Tobacco | Mancera," or "Lost Cherry (Eau de Parfum) | Tom Ford." I perceive the asphalt more as a rubber note, similar to "Luna Rossa Black | Prada." This may not sound particularly promising, but the blend at Chopard is right: none of the notes pushes to the forefront or can really be perceived in isolation. A sweet, synthetic-fruity hint accompanies the wearer for up to 6 hours, and he can be sure that no one in his vicinity is wearing anything similar, nor does he have to fear clashing with anyone. The fragrance projects up to the end of the desk and is just perceptible when passing by. Just right for the office, though not for the Wolf of Wall Street. Those wanting to show off their alpha side should wear something less likable. 1000 Miglia Chrono is very linear; it lacks a prominent spicy or woody base, making it suitable for both genders.
Anyone looking for a modern, urban feel-good scent for everything from late summer onwards, who doesn't want to overdo it but also doesn't want to drown in the thousandth iteration of the currently ubiquitous cinnamon and tobacco gourmands, will find this to be the best option. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a blind purchase, as long as it's still available.
