More pepper than patchouli
What i see as Esteban Patchouli is not a classical earthy and dirty patchouli of dark gourmand nuances. In fact, if it wasn't called patchouli i wouldn't have thought about the note, mainly because what i get for a considerable time on my skin is blast of peppers, more pink than black one, which makes the peppery impression goes more in the sweet and salty direction than the incensed one. After the peppers in notice the iris giving its aroma, very dry and earthy, but different from the earthy patchouli aroma. After that, the scent finishes in a quite indistinct base, sweet and woody but which doesn't remind of anything in particular, specially patchouli. It's lovely if you like peppers, of course, but i have trouble seing it as a patchouli scent.

Be Careful What You Ask For!
You asked for patchouli, and Esteban PATCHOULI delivers! This is a big, voluptuous, va-voom patchouli fragrance with huge sillage and fantastic staying power. In fact, it's all so outspoken that I probably would not wear this in a public setting...

Here are the notes according to the house's website (confirming the above):

Lead notes: black pepper, pink peppercorns
Heart notes: white rose, iris, violet leaves
Base notes: patchouli, labdanum

The pepper is quite light, thankfully, and patchouli really is the star of the show. Not too dark, but not quite clean, and not at all sweet, this is a floralized patchouli with lots of depth and big billowy presence. Recommended for all and only patchouli fanatics!

Only this Patchouli has lasted for me
I hesitated for a long time before giving my verdict on this. However, after trying a whole range of fragrances that have "Patchouli" in the name or have been characterized as patchouli-like, I must conclude that Esteban's Patchouli is the only one I have added to my permanent collection. Of course, the longevity is not as pronounced (as has already been mentioned).

I find it difficult to describe. I would call it very strict and bitter. It has nothing sweet about it. I can't even say that it is clearly pleasant. But it is - in my opinion, perhaps due to my limited fragrance experience - unique, unmistakable, mysterious.

Here Patchouli Meets Pepper
Each of us has certain notes that we prefer in perfumes. Besides incense, tea notes, and rose, I find the scent of patchouli wonderful. I associate it not with graveyards, death, and decay, but with depth, warmth, and well-being.

I ordered a sample pack with 10 scents from Esteban, which was delivered last week. The samples came in a (terrible) cosmetic bag, and as a thank you, there was an eleventh sample included. Of course, I had to take a whiff of patchouli as one of the first.

Patchouli surprises with a peppery opening, and I must admit, I had to get used to it a little.

However, it quickly transitions to a very beautiful heart note, which on my skin is dominated by rose, and where the base subtly shines through. The heart note, despite the flowers, has nothing sweet about it, but rather something cool and almost classic.

In the base, the flowers fade very slowly, leaving a wonderful accord of resinous labdanum and lush patchouli.

Here too, the longevity could be better for my taste, but the intensity is fine. I will browse the Esteban website later, as some scents are also offered as EdP.

I find this patchouli variation surprising and extremely successful.

Starts off very spicy with the pepper, then more like TF Noir de Noir, just softer, with less rose and a bit sweeter. Not bad.

Great! A deep, gentle, and warm patchouli, subtly resinous labdanum, playful floral accents.
