Fresh Woody Aquacitrus Clone

Acqua di Gioia Eau Fraîche has excellent sillage about 2 meters on me, initial- which is an unfortunate thing to discover when you decide to spritz yourself liberally with this before going to the gym on a hot humid day. It has that notable Acqua Di Gioia Zest and freshness on top. I'm not very familiar with the other flankers, so I can't offer a comparison, but as a stand alone fragrance, this is no wall flower. The slightly sultry Ylang and Jasmine tea and a good bit of musky cedar in the base, as well. I can detect a bit of the sugary note, but this is not cloyingly sweet by any means, it stays clearly in the floral woody citrus category with an aquatic splash through out. It has been on me for 6 hours so far, through a workout and the cedar and musk are still hanging out. I doubt they will survive my impending shower; though I've enjoyed our little tête á tête and we shared some good times on the treadmill, I am ready to say farewell to this one, it's a bit too unremarkable for my taste.

A Refreshingly Citrusy Scent

I like fresh, citrusy scents and the Eau Fraîche is perfect as a light summer fragrance. I perceive the (water) jasmine minimally; it seems to say: Come on, let’s hit the sea! The scent fades quite quickly, but with each new spray, it simply brings good vibes. It’s not a scent for an evening appearance, but perfect for a visit to the outdoor pool or a vacation in Italy.

It bothers me in the nose

First of all - the Eau Fraîche belongs to summer for me, as I really like to reach for fresh scents, like my L´Occitane Eau de Toilette Jasmin & Bergamotte. The Acqua di Gioia Eau Fraîche is fresh, cool, and citrusy, and you can clearly feel the aquatic note and white flowers. I would not classify the scent as seductive, but rather sporty.

Now comes the big BUT, there is something there, something that bothers my nose, which triggers that "This is too much" feeling in me. There is definitely something soapy in the scent, which bothers me enormously. I love fresh and pure scents that give you that fresh laundry feeling; in principle, the Giorgio Armani perfume has this quality too, but then I miss the soft, powdery, possibly slightly spicy note, like I find in one of my favorite summer scents, the Essence Eau De Musc Eau de Toilette by Narciso Rodriguez. And I must unfortunately say that this soapy aspect causes me discomfort, and I even get a slight headache.

Based on the composition, I would have thought that the Acqua di Gioia Eau Fraîche would be a hit; I love musk (I don't think I have a single perfume without a musk component), cedarwood is always great, and jasmine is a must. And this shows once again that even if the ingredients fit, a scent does not necessarily have to be liked. Nevertheless, I will give the perfume another chance in the summer; who knows, maybe I will like it then.
