Fig done right!
If you ever smelled Noble Fig by Ferrari, you could say this is the luxury version done to perfection. I am not a big fan of fig but this is blended so well and just smells so expensive that I could not resist. Fig note is a synthetic one, so the challenge is always to make it strong enough to last and yet not too strong to avoid getting cloying. This does just that! Good projection and longevity for EDT. Fig and Iris play major roles in this one. There are green notes on the background (but not tart, bitter fig leave green like in Phylosykos), very smooth and most likable out of all fig fragrances I know. Overall very safe choice for summer scent, unisex, can dress it up and down. The fig note here is very refined and exquisite, so if you don't like fig frags, still give this one a try: most likely, like me, you'll end up buying it :)

A Dreamy Quiet Fig
This is a feminine and delicate fig. Fresh and soapy from the bergamot, and dewy and green from the fig and tea. This smells very exclusive, it’s calm and mellow, like quiet luxury. And just like that it is very addictive. At times I have considered selling my bottle, but every time I wear it again, I fall in love with just how effortless it is. A great springtime all-rounder.

When it dries down it gets slightly sweeter and fruitier, but it’s still sparkly and balanced. No notes are taking more space than others even though the fig is the most prominent. I struggle a bit with the longevity on this one because it really changes with the weather. In colder weather it really disappears, but in warmer weather it penetrates my skin and stay with me as a close companion. I have heard very contrasted opinions on the topic of longevity. And I can understand why, based on my own experiences. I still find it to be sophisticated as stated, and neither too spicy nor too amber-y.

Absolutely worth checking out if you are a lover of figs

Paradisiacal - and completely without a snake...
Paradisiacal - and completely without a snake...

It is said in the First Book of Moses (Genesis), Chapter 2, 10-14:

“A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four main rivers. The first is named Pishon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good; there is also bdellium and onyx stone. The second river is named Gihon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Cush. The third river is named Tigris; it is the one that flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.”

The "Garden of Eden" is referred to as "Paradise" in the Greek translation of the Tanakh. It can be found in the 1st Book of Moses (Genesis) of the Bible, which describes it in Chapter 2 and tells of the expulsion of man after the "Fall" in Chapter 3. "Eden" referred to the steppe in Sumerian. There was also a mention of the region "Heavenly Eden," a place that seemed to be fertile but later became barren. This description historically relates to the changes in conditions that, according to climate research, occurred at the end of the last Ice Age in the Levant: The formerly green steppe dried up, prompting humans to take up agriculture. This is also mentioned in relation to the expulsion from Paradise as a new basis for sustenance.

Christian theology refers to the "Fall" as a symbolic event described in the Bible as the consumption of the "forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge" by the first human couple (Adam and Eve) ("original sin"). The resulting history of calamity is called "original sin" - the only sin that can be transmitted from one person to another. This means that every person, as a descendant of Adam, is "born into" this story and thus is preloaded in their own story of freedom.

In Jewish tradition, the name "Gan Eden" became the gathering place of the righteous after death. However, speculation about its geographical location on Earth was avoided. This is also consistent. Judaism refuses to precisely define the location of Paradise, the mountain of revelation, Mount Sinai, and others, in order to avoid the dangers of worship, invocation, pilgrimage cults, as well as the veneration of holy sites or idolatry. After all, even the name of God is used very cautiously. Judaism does not recognize sins that could be inherited.

In Islam, the expulsion of Adam and Eve is also seen as a kind of new beginning. The Christian concept of a fall is explicitly rejected. According to Islam, the expulsion from Paradise did not disturb the relationship between Adam and Allah. Adam is regarded by Muslims as the first Muslim and also as the first prophet of Islam. According to Islamic tradition, Adam and Eve were indeed cast out at different points on Earth and had to wander for some time in search of each other. Therefore, in Islam, the story of Adam and Eve is also portrayed as a special love story. According to tradition, great cities later arose at all the places on Earth where Adam lay down to sleep during his search for Eve. According to Islamic belief, Adam and Eve only found each other after a long search at Mount Arafat (in present-day Saudi Arabia), where they embraced and praised Allah.

Phew, after so much knowledge-sharing, I need to rest for a moment. And where better to do that than under a shady fig tree? I don't have to walk far for this, as our test candidate today, "Armani Privé - Figuier Eden (2012)" by Christine Nagel, promises by its name that this fig tree is located in the Garden of Eden. A quick spray from the elegantly designed bottle and the first refreshment spreads: A delicate bergamot, hand in hand with a juicy mandarin. Only a gentle fruity hint greets us here. Like a citrus veil, these two fruits wrap around us. They are not sweet or overly ripe. No, just fresh, natural, and noble. And a bit spicy too. You can sense a slightly sharp peppery spice. Not unpleasant. I hardly dare to use the word "spicy." Because this pepper in the top note serves solely to give the fruits a subtle additional component.
But then we have already arrived at our fig tree: A very natural green fig awaits us. It is not sour, but simply refreshingly delicious. But: Just a hint of it. Just like our citrus fruits earlier. However, it has not come alone: No, the impression of a green - and thus refreshing - fig is enhanced by a green-grassy note. This, along with a light tea hint, ensures that this fig remains refreshing at all times. It will never become too sweet. It will always caress us with the commendable intention of refreshing our bodies exhausted from a tiring day. And so it envelops us - light and airy, dances around us. To be more precise: It "wafts" around us. Like a gentle breeze coming from a nearby Mediterranean fig plantation on a hot summer day, refreshingly soothing. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But never completely gone. Always a refreshing breeze. And if you think it has suddenly become still, it is suddenly back again. It says "Hello" and resumes its refreshing work for the whole long dear day.
But even our day must come to an end. The sun sets and night falls. What remains is the earth heated by the relentless daytime sun beneath our feet. A warm earth. A pleasant earth. Warming amber conveys this impression of heated earth at sunset. Amber, mingled with a hint of fig.

My conclusion:
If I were Eve and a fig in the form of this fragrance had been offered to me by the snake, I would have taken it. It doesn't always have to be an apple...

The Holy Grail of Fig Scents?
I have found it... my fig scent!

Fig in perfumes seems to polarize, much like coriander. I love fig perfumes! But not all of them.

Half a year ago, while passing the time in a luxury department store in Munich, I came across this fragrance, which triggered a wrist-to-nose reflex for the rest of the evening. But no, at that price? Surely there must be something better for less money...?! Thus began a true fig scent odyssey. I tried Phylosikos (apparently and deservedly the benchmark, but personally too juicy-fruity for me), Figuier Ardent (beautifully peppery, but too rubbery synthetic), Heeley Figuier (a mix of the two mentioned, ultimately too synthetic), Ferragamo (great, but too unfocused), Ninfeo Mio (fig & coconut = too feminine for me) and several others that don't even need to be mentioned. And? In the end, as so often, the first one was indeed the best. Bought. Happy.

Figuier Eden is primarily fig, pepper, and wood, clear, straightforward, and noble, leaning more towards the masculine. And it also has excellent longevity. This is (my) fig scent.

Paradisiacal scent,… almost….
Aaah, figs. I have only found these absolutely delicious fruits once this year, and that was a few slightly squished and green fruits for eight euros, ugh… (dried fruits don’t count!). But figs are definitely among my favorite fruits. And even though I haven’t enjoyed them properly in a while (the slightly squished ones don’t count either!), I can at least enjoy the lovely scent that this fruit gives off through fragrances like this perfume here. Unfortunately, the scent here is not as strong as I had assumed… but that doesn’t mean it’s not good.

The scent:
The beginning is truly heavenly, well, I probably only say that because I really love the fig scent and this note is present from the start, albeit very lightly, and becomes stronger later. The main components of the top note are bergamot, mandarin, and a few minutes later, allspice, which seems to become stronger, but then fades again, so it never becomes too overpowering.
In the heart note, I feel like I perceive a slight smokiness, which might be the tea that reminds me a bit of rooibos tea. After that, the scent becomes a bit fresher or greener, supposedly grass according to the fragrance pyramid. But even though the scent smells green, one should not imagine the scent of freshly cut grass, which by the way also smells very pleasant; here it’s just fresh-green, well-scented notes.
Later, the fig gradually becomes stronger and more pleasant, smelling fruity-sweet; those who like figs know that the fig scent is one of the most beautiful and pleasant scents ever. In the end, one can still perceive faintly sweet notes, while the iris seems to fade quite a bit and is hard to distinguish.

Longevity and sillage:
The longevity is weaker than I thought, as I could only smell the scent on my skin for about three to four hours, and although it lingered for a few more hours, it remained in a very weak state. So overall, it lasts about six to seven hours. The sillage is rather average and diminishes over time, although the fig scent still comes through well from time to time later on.

Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular, thick glass, and becomes a bit rounder at the top. It looks elegant and is visually appealing. It features a bronze-colored label with the name of the fragrance, which in my opinion is a bit too simple. The cap, on the other hand, is very nice and looks like a polished stone, resembling the cap of Armani Si, except that the one from Si stands upright.

Figuier Eden is truly a beautiful scent, almost paradisiacal, one could say. However, it seems to be a bit too weak, although this can vary in duration for everything. I could hardly perceive it on myself after three to four hours, which is very unfortunate…

Nevertheless, Figuier Eden is a wonderful scent that is perfect for spring and summer. A fragrance that both men and women can use and should definitely try out. The smoky rooibos tea is a bit of an acquired taste, but you can still give the scent a chance.
Personally, I prefer Philosykos by Diptyque and Fico di Amalfi by Acqua di Parma when it comes to fig scents (so far anyway, I still need to test a few more of these fragrances!).

The fig fragrance for people who don't like fig notes. Delicate, powdery, and no projection or longevity to speak of.

The performance is low compared to the price. But the fig (fresh and green) is wonderful! Good for spring/summer.

The more subtle, classier cousin of Philosykos. Grassy, transparent fig with a slight powdery touch from the iris. Short-lived longevity.

Delicate and transparent ripe fig tea. Slightly soapy. Cleanest and most "perfumey" of the fig fragrances.

Good fig tee fragrance. At the beginning there is a pepper note I’m not a fan of, but other than that it’s a great perfume.

Decent summer fig, but not for the price.

This has tea and fig, two of my favourite fresh notes. Very nice fragrance. Only moderate longevity. Very likeable, but too pricey I think.
