Before spraying on Encens Divin, I was a little concerned about how sharp the top notes (pepper and ginger) would be in the opening but as it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. The opening was a slightly spicey resinous vanilla that reminded me of Ambre Tigré. Rose notes along with wood and incense followed soon afterwards. After a while, amber and treacle (molasses) notes came into play. A very nice olfactory experience.

Though I did enjoy Ambre Tigré, I would recommend saving your money and purchase Encens Divin instead as this is Ambre Tigré with a lot more depth.

Projection is around 6ft (2m) and is still noticable after 10 hours. Can easily be worn for any occasion professional, leisure and intimate. During my first day of wearing Encens Divin, I received a few unsolicited compliments from co-workers.

Full bottle and signature scent worthy for men or women.

Incense in incredibly elegant

Encens Divin was my last fragrance from Givenchy's "Atelier" line - and it's still one of my favorites. Too bad it's no longer available.
Encens Divin is a sophisticated, understated fragrance. Quite different from the current "in your face" fragrances that are en vogue today. Perhaps this is why it was condemned to disappear - even though it is such a beautiful companion.
The presentation is simple and elegant. Completely in harmony with the fragrance itself. Once again, a yarn wrap on the lid pays homage to Givenchy's fashion tradition.
The name reveals what this fragrance is all about: divine incense.
It announces itself almost immediately after spraying it on. Not smoky and rough for me, but velvety and elegant. Woody notes soon make themselves known, providing a wonderful base for this fragrance.
Encens Divin was my first incense fragrance and I was immediately captivated by it. Since then, I have tested incense fragrances again and again, but none have touched me as much as this one.
The slight hints of pepper give it a subtle spiciness that contrasts well with the quickly perceptible, sweet tones of rose and vanilla.
The overall construction is dark and elegant, even in the drydown, without becoming too sweet or too heavy.
The longevity is good.
Encens Divin is not a loud fragrance. It doesn't project out of control, doesn't fill the room, but stays with me in discreet elegance - and I really like that about it. Anyone can be loud - but this kind of understatement is not so easy.
I would recommend everyone to try this fragrance - unfortunately it is no longer available.
So why this review? Because I think it deserves it!

The stone that is not and the perfume that is more than a perfume

I waited a long time with a comment, which my absolute favourite fragrance deserves. "Encens Divin" has been with me since autumn 2018 - "Guilt" is the nice salesman of a duty free shop at London Heathrow airport, who was able to classify my fragrance preferences well and made me so happy with a spray of the golden elixir that I couldn't let my arm bend during the almost one and a half hour flight to Hamburg. The distinguished Brit next to me deliberately ignored me until his cell phone disappeared under the seat during a turbulence. I helped him find it by using mine as a flashlight. Head down, our eyes met and he was probably a wave of "Encens Divin". Promptly he said, "Oh, it DOES smell good!" Also the mobile phone found itself a row behind us again.

But now to the fragrance: The peppery top note is astonishingly soft, almost with hints of honey and embedded in the already ascending incense, which also carries, envelops, connects and refines all the other notes in the further course.

If "Encens Divin" were a gemstone, it would be an amber - a magnificent, large, highly polished amber with facets ranging from dark orange-brown to brilliant gold, in which time-trapped, filigree insects dance. Its depth and long-lasting fragrance development are like the play of light and shadow, which let you discover ever new details inside this stone, which is not one. Like the tree resin, which is sometimes millions of years old, "Encens Divin", thanks to incense and amber, also awakens associations for me with prehistory and early history, a time long before our time.

The scent takes me to Mesopotamia, to the first advanced civilizations, to cities like Ur and Akkad. Here a warm wind blows around the Zikkurate, but not only the people, also the gods war each other and must be appeased again and again with fragrances. Wise rulers like Hamurabi and Gilgamesh ensure that these rules are strictly observed, and so the incense can still be smelled in the warm stones and tasted in the warm, dusty air long after the sun has fallen over the horizon in the evening. That's the divine incense!

The association with "Akkad" by Lubin is by no means accidental, since these fragrances are soul mates. Both evoke a depth and beauty that few fragrance compositions can achieve. Both are not miserly with an abundance of ingredients from the Middle East, whereby the rose absolute and the balsamic cedar notes of "Encens Divin" make the fragrance for me even more beautiful and deeper than that of "Akkad".

If you love Akkad, you might fall for Encens Divin. I am it anyway with skin & hair and am happy to be able to wear this ancient, wonderfully radiant light-dark fragrance in the cooler months again.

Dark Beauty

What should I say I really liked it on the first sprayer and it stayed that way for the next hours! This perfume is very dark and mysterious, a real beauty that you rarely encounter in life. I find this fine and charismatic water completely deviates from the previous fragrances. It is spicy, I almost thought I noticed a fine trace of an excellent espresso but no, these are the woods in combination with the rose and the incense "really very unusual but beautiful and sensual audacious, a bit dangerous. For this fragrance you need a clear self-confidence - this is not a floral and airy, light everyday world. One or two sprayers are enough, otherwise carefully lay down your opponent - he pulls him into the spell. At some point he becomes a bit more tame - a trace of sweet but still with this dark undertone that whispers quietly of mysterious things that take us away. I have afforded myself this somewhat expensive fragrance of almost 200 euros and enjoy this very different seeming dark free spirit. It changes every now and then, but a dark fragrance remains and carries the other ingredients in the four directions of freedom. It would also suit a man, the Rosenabsolue is very well packed and looks only tentatively and carefully. If the scent were a fairy tale it would be for me all kinds of woman the beautiful one packed in the coat of small particles of 1000 different furs (no real of course I am animal lover) and it peeps out such a dark and perfect beauty that one decays. The coat falls down and there stands this beautiful dark creature, you close your eyes and the picture captures the heart. The reader may excuse my fantasy journey, but the perfume has touched, fascinated and captured me in a miraculous way.
