Anniversary Fragrance
I don't even know who I received this small sample of "Place Rouge" with the very little remaining from.
While tidying up my samples, I somewhat managed to get a clearer view (which is not easy given the amount lying around here and won't last long).
I was surprised to find that I had completely overlooked "Place Rouge" until now: how could that happen?
This situation is changing now, but my little glass atomizer is emptying as a result.
Wherever this fragrance sample came from, it deserves to be acknowledged in a comment.
I am currently excitedly rummaging through the treasures of Guerlain; oh, there is so much more to discover there.

"Place Rouge" comes from a special edition released by the house of Guerlain, which also includes "Prima Ballerina Le Boishoi".
(I fondly remember that New Year's Eve when I wrote this fragrant dance of words.)
And of course, "Place Rouge" is a true Guerlain, not only because of the bottle.

Up until the earthy-gourmand finale, a rather exciting scent profile unfolds:
The example of the "electrically charged atmosphere of a thunderstorm" is cleverly chosen.
Orange blossom, perhaps also neroli and bergamot, enjoy the summer warmth and generously send out their scents; while rosemary already presents itself a bit prickly. As if it senses the raindrops that will soon meet them and leave behind shiny pearls.
Despite their robust exterior, rosemary plants, like the herbaceous lavender, are very sensitive, and their aromatic intensity changes under the influence of the weather.
I often experienced this phenomenon on my balcony, which was "occupied" by these two varieties for many years; unfortunately, everything froze this winter.
But back to "Place Rouge": the dark clouds that seem to be gathering also make the floral world of this scent composition attentive: jasmine and violet release their heavy scents even more intensely, the violet vanilla note of the heliotrope - chosen here in the heart of the arrangement instead of sensual vanilla - harmoniously joins this duo.
Together with the quartet of the entrance, a wonderfully coordinated concert of scents is already rising into the air, surrounding with a very special magic.
Fruity yet floral at the start, "Place Rouge" is already developing into a floral chypre fragrance.
But of course, there is still a crescendo to come, as the scent rhythm demands: white musk must be present, as expected by heliotrope and the goddess of fragrance vanilla, who finally makes her appearance!
She brings a small bowl of delicious pralines for all gathered: a little sweetness never hurts!
Beforehand, cinnamon greets with a warm embrace and "Lady Iris" appears with her powder puff - just a quick dusting. The scent being now wears a cozy angora jacket!
Patchouli flows leisurely and adds a certain erotic tingle, a rich vibration in the scent profile, before amber makes its entrance.
Here too, golden sparks are sprinkled: thus, a floral musk-amber fragrance ultimately emerges - a true Guerlain creation of the new generation!

Intensely fragrant and long-lasting, "Place Rouge" enchants.
This fragrance is not extraordinary; you don't necessarily have to know it or even have it in your collection; but it is interesting to discover what Thierry Wasser composed for this special edition.
My sample will accompany me with its last drops throughout the day today.
I look forward to it: we have already had the mentioned rain, now the fruity-floral scent and much-needed warmth of the sun will come to my skin.
No matter whether on the "Red Square" in Moscow or anywhere else:
It brings sunshine and a smile!

It's Raining in Moscow
Hello, you scent enthusiasts!
Here I am again, describing yet another new fragrance. Today, it's about Guerlain's "Place Rouge," which is the reissue of the very lovely "Quand Vient la Pluie" from 2007. The first thing that stands out is the name of the fragrance. While the first scent was translated to the romantic name "When the Rain Comes," this fragrance is simply called "Red Square," referring to the namesake location in Russia.

Of course, there is a reason why this fragrance is named as such, as it was created to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the GUM department store in Moscow, which is also why this scent is exclusively available there. However, that's something I like less. Sure, a certain exclusivity might bring some excitement and variety to certain places, but I still find it a shame. What I understand the least, however, is why exactly this fragrance was chosen. I mean, Guerlain could have released a unique scent for the Russian GUM and made the beautiful Quand Vient la Pluie available to the public, but well, that's just how it is sometimes regarding marketing, etc.

Interestingly, the scent is quite similar to the old fragrance with some differences and thus reminds us again of the original name, namely rain! Which can be a pleasant scent! So, let's see how this fragrance is and how the differences to La Pluie turned out!

The Scent:
The fragrance starts with powdery-sweet violets that smell very nice. There is already an almondy note coming from the heliotrope. I find that, unlike Quand Vient La Pluie, the heliotrope kicks in faster here and begins to smell more intense sooner. However, the orange blossoms are much weaker, and the scent lacks the slight (and also brief) freshness of bergamot from the other fragrance. Moreover, the orange blossoms disappear again after just a few moments.
This fragrance also primarily smells of heliotrope and violets in the middle part, with musk gradually adding a sweet note that now smells a bit "darker." I would also say that the musk here also comes in a bit faster than in the old fragrance. However, it seems that amber is missing here.
The base remains lightly floral and sweet. One continues to smell almondy sweet heliotrope (slightly more intense in this fragrance than in the old one) with musk (by the way, a very nice combination) as well as pleasantly powdery violets. Unlike La Pluie, the scent here is a bit darker in the base, as the other fragrance, as mentioned, still had amber in its base, which brightened the scent a bit. I also had the feeling that the patchouli radiated a bit stronger here in the base, especially in the later hours. Overall, a very beautiful fragrance that one should try if given the opportunity.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is quite good; one is enveloped in a nice scent cloud, remaining pleasantly noticeable for a while without overwhelming the entire surroundings. I would say that this fragrance is about equally intense as La Pluie. The longevity is also similar, lasting eight to ten hours, like the old fragrance.

The Bottle:
The bottle comes in the usual (but beautiful) cylindrical bee flacons and is filled with yellow fragrance liquid. The label features an elaborate golden frame and shows not only the name but also the silhouette of Moscow. The cap is round, and around the neck, there is a dark red silk ribbon with a metallic golden plaque. A very beautiful bottle, as expected from Guerlain, although the 2003 fragrance had a much prettier bottle.

Conclusion:
So, folks. I think the reissue of Quand Vient La Pluie is also very successful. Of course, it has to be so, as this fragrance smells 80-90% similar to the old one. The differences are not that significant. Broadly speaking, Place Rouge smells a bit darker because the musk is more pronounced here, the heliotrope seems a little more intense, and most importantly, the amber is missing. But otherwise, it still primarily smells floral, sweet, and powdery with violets, heliotrope, and musk. And the feeling of a summer rain, at least the lovely scent of it and not the muggy sensation after the rain, is also present here. Only with Russia or Moscow does this fragrance have absolutely nothing to do, I would say...

In any case, the fragrance is very pleasant, very beautiful, although not extraordinarily outstanding, as it doesn't have very distinctive recognition features. Maybe it just seems that way to me because I have tested many fragrances by now, and even if I shouldn't have everything in my head anymore, it still feels like I have already encountered several similarly scented fragrances before.

Regardless, that doesn't diminish the fragrance in its beauty, so I can confidently recommend trying it if you ever get the chance. It is especially good for going out and being admired (he he, I haven't said that in a while). Yes, it is said that Russian girls are very pretty, and with this fragrance, they would appear even more attractive... oh, and you other girls, of course, don't worry, you are all pretty too, even if you should complain about me the whole time *sigh* … :DD

So, which fragrance is the better one? Well, I would actually say that both are equally beautiful. La Pluie is a tad lighter and starts a bit fresher, while Place Rouge becomes almondy-sweet a bit faster. Strictly speaking, I find La Pluie a little better because, as mentioned, you can smell the fresher notes better at the beginning and smell a bit more neroli, but those are just personal tastes, so you can check out both fragrances!

Well then, that's it for now, folks. Have a lovely evening, and see you next time :)

First raindrops fall like pearls into a lush summer herb garden; fragrant clouds are gathering: what happens now?

Gentle chypre that tickles the nose lightly, like the dry wind in midsummer.
Hay floating in the air, pierced by light.

Reminds me a bit of Heure Bleue. A dry summer day outside, sitting innocently in the hay, waiting for rain....

It really reminds me of Mon Pr-Nectar when applied, then becomes beautifully powdery-heliotrope-subtly floral-soft.

Super soft chypre. Dry-woody in the base. Delicate little lemon, then fluffy with musk and heliotrope. It does nothing!!!
