Almondy Musk
I am on an eternal quest for cotton musky fresh scents and own a few in this category: Shiro, Floating, Le Musc e la Peau Extrait and the regular, Santal 33, 02 at Club Noe, Lefko, Genetic Bliss, Fleur de Peau, Nothing but sea and salt, Twelve, Sun bleached, Blanche, Cotton by Marc Jacobs, Clean Warm Cotton - to name a few.
I suspect that I will prefer Coton in the autumn and under 20 degrees better than currently at 35 degrees; I will report back. The scent is part of the Eau Secrète series from 2021 and can only be obtained through Guerlain.
Already cotton but very musky and creamy, not fresh, more linen would be great. Orange blossom stands out. For me, it feels a bit old-fashioned; the freshness is missing. Fluffy musk clouds, for a brief moment it reminds me of Musc Love by El Nabil, but here the musk is fresher.
Not fresh, but fresher than sweet musk scents. In the dry down, the scent smells like musk marshmallow.
Powdery. Creamy.
Sillage is average, and longevity is too.
Not a bad scent, but I expected something different: freshness and lightness. In fact, the scent is almost on the verge of being gourmand. You get pretty much what is described in the notes here. If they had used an aldehyde note instead of almonds, everything would have turned out better.
So I miss the freshness in the fluffy musk-almond cloud.
Musk paired with almond oil... as I said, I expected more lightness and airiness. Unfortunately, it feels too old-fashioned and too sweet for me, in the dry down it resembles Kaufmann's baby cream! A bit conservative, which I find outdated.
The name is misleading. Coton at first is sweet and powdery in no modern way. In the dry down, I smell baby wipes. It could also be expensive fabric softener with a musky powdery, creamy touch, distinctly smelling of almond.
The pyramid fits, except for the vanilla in the base that I smell additionally, similar to Eau de Bain. Suitable for anyone who likes sweet scents and still dares to take a harmless detour towards clean fragrances.
Guerlain Eau de Coton and Eau Secrète both belong to Guerlain's “Les Matières Confidentielles” line - they primarily share the base note of white musk. What is the difference?
Eau de Coton: A combination of almond, orange blossom, and white musk. Very creamy, powdery with a hint of fresh cotton.
Eau Secrète: Primarily white musk, without the sweet-fresh notes of almond or orange blossom - overall a more minimalist, pure musk creation. Here again, there are some cheaper competitors: Santal 33, Santal Blanc, Pure Musc, etc.
