Fragonard again? Yes, there are indeed some treasures...
Many Fragonards from recent years are somehow "you get what you pay for." Not really good, not really bad, you’ve smelled it all before, often too sticky-fruity-sweet for my taste. Or the longevity is just terrible, pardon, je m'excuse: pauvre.

Nevertheless, every now and then there are a few treasures to discover. "Encens Feve Tonka" is one of them for me. I wear it when I feel like a bold, dark-spicy hit, because this is not a subtle fragrance. Sillage: It's there, perhaps not quite so that everything within a 20-meter radius that isn’t already dead would just fall over, but enough that I wouldn’t want to wear it to the office.

At the beginning: Mountains of bergamot, a wonderful perfumed moderated freshness, the clove is almost present from the start, mandarin adds a citrus-fruity accent and the pepper a nice sharpness. It's fresh and really a bit woody, yes, and I might even suspect lavender. In any case, it’s a Tatatataaaaaa opening that doesn’t need to hide.

Then it becomes a bit softer and maybe - just maybe - a tiny bit more bitter, the bergamot disappears quite quickly, the pepper unfortunately as well, but the clove has made itself comfortable now, it doesn’t want to leave anytime soon. The fragrance also darkens a little, no, it doesn’t become pitch black, but the finely balanced freshness of the opening is gone. And the rose and jasmine? They are there and yet not, because there is something floral, but far in the background. Overall, it’s simply a spicy heart note that also becomes increasingly smoky, the incense and the cozy roundness of the tonka bean reveal themselves relatively quickly, without the heart note giving way immediately. There’s also a delicate powderiness somehow, in short: it’s rounded and pleasant and darkly colorful and will never be too sweet for me, even though there’s also vanilla in the slightly woody base.

For me, it’s clearly a fragrance for both women and men, with an amusing little contradiction: On men, I would describe it as a solid, not directly old-fashioned, but rather more traditional scent. On women, the juice smells in these times when you can’t avoid "La vie est belle" or "Opium noir" anywhere, at any time of day, almost visionary.

We have Trees now ...
More so than we did before, but now we know what to do with them.
We hang our troubles on them and wipe our shoes against them.
We go lethargic on the porch, we tear the bark with spindly fingers.
We soak up the sun with restless hunger.
So much sky we say in unison, where does it go, do we follow it? Do we let it get away?
For months we splay without a fence, door white open-
Blue and brash inside and out. Because we can, we keep saying, because we can.

Thanks to a noble musketeer who provided me with a sample as a blind test, I was able to delve a little deeper into this interesting scent. Without knowledge of the fragrance pyramid, my first impression on the skin was delicate, light, fresh, slightly woody, powdery, with a hint of dry sweetness, briefly summarizable as "I want it!". Over time, the scent became more robust for me and clearly leaned more towards the masculine spectrum, first thought: "unisex?", next: "men's fragrance?", I would have guessed lavender, but it’s not in there. As time went on, I perceived it as even more robust and green, a forest green, I suspected cedar or incense or even oak moss, at least I was right with one of them. I already smell a slight piney bitterness in it, which has something appealing for me in early spring; it would be an ideal companion through work and leisure, less so for the evening or a date. I also find it exciting that I thought, I know this from somewhere, so it’s probably not as individual and standalone as some other niche fragrances, but it merges with my skin in a way that makes it a part of me, and me a part of this forest, which I find pleasant, feeling fragrant but not "perfumed." Interestingly, I initially found it somewhat weak in sillage and applied a second test spray to my wrist, only to then notice that over time it doesn’t fade but rather intensifies! I haven’t encountered that before. A clear unisex fragrance that certainly offers an exciting development depending on the skin.

Somehow we know it
Fragonard has once again sent samples.
Unfortunately, they are always the little bags with the soaked paper. Ok, for a first impression, it's enough.

I was immediately curious about the word Tonka and so I test this fragrance right away.
The pyramid with the two components surprises me now.
Rose and incense.

No, there’s more in it. Possibly also Tonka.
At first, a sharp hint of ginger hits me, but you can also sense those warm beautiful notes that make the fragrance so cozy.
Incense comes a little later, but only lightly, just enough to finely round off the scent. The rose also adapts very well and does not dominate.

But Fève Tonka reminds me of some other fragrance. It has a bit of Alien and Tonka Imperiale, if I’m not mistaken.

The spiciness continues to exist, no longer sharp, but gentle and warm.
The scent remains very harmonious overall, delicately floral and dark, without bitterness.
It can also be worn well by men.
Yes, it is a fragrance to lean into and I like it very much.

Pepper, clove and, later in the DD, incense set the tone here. Unagitated, but nice. Absolutely suitable for men too.

identifiably incense, but doesn't have any of the texture, off putting ness or harshness that usually comes with it

Muffelfrucht scent. Apple and incense just don't go together for me. I prefer my apple fresh, not smoked like this.

Starts peppery + a bit sharp; the citrus can't compete. Plus, artificial apples in the incense instead of in a nightgown. Phew! More pleasant in the dry down.

Lightly fruity, autumnal incense scent. Well-balanced, not too intensely smoky, making it great for everyday wear.

At first, I think of baked apples (clove + apple), then a resinous-woody component comes in that reminds me of men's fragrance. Unisex.

Nicely peppered incense and spicy vanilla-apple.
Not too sweet. What a great combo!

I don't really know why I wear this so rarely. Can't wear it to the office, that's clear, but otherwise? Really well done, dark floral spicy, smoky.

Beautiful winter scent - spicy, slightly bitter, yet cozy-soft. Reminds me of "Myrrh & Tonka" by Jo Malone but I like this one even more.
