The (un)beloved Joop !
Yes, I am aware that hardly anyone will read this commi anymore. Because who else gets lost to this under-average anyway? So how am I supposed to draw your attention to a flopped mainstreamer? Does the old Joop need them at all?
Probably not, because Joop! Splash has not been produced for years anyway, has a bad overall rating and the brand has an image problem (Joop = cheap = mainstreamer, etc.). In other words: The stuff is no good (?!)
Almost sad ... if there weren't some hardcore (?) fans who still think he's in their collection. Currently 52 of them, one lady and myself included. Or the majority is no longer aware that they are there ;-) Whatever.
But what else is there to report about this splash that is not splashed? I can't say for sure, but I can't do without it either. No commies. Somehow I've had the feeling for months that I still have to do something good for this loser(?), or for everyone who still owns him - myself included. Crazy? Yes ... Because to me Joop's Splash is anything but a loser! Therefore, this will probably be a very personal homage to a fragrance with which I share a very special moment.
Here we go:
In the last 20 years I used a few perfumes, which I bought again and again, until in 2012 I added the Splash for 1-2 years. In this respect I had little idea, but in autumn last year I became more interested in the world of fragrances. I started to buy blind, of which of course every second flopped and then found the way to Ebay. Maybe these zero rounds remind you of your own beginnings? ;-) Of course it shouldn't stay that way and I came across PARFUMO at the turn of the year. I read myself into different smells and began to order more purposefully and to use for tests also the SOUK ... And then I remembered also again the ollen Joop. Somehow I was tempted to get it again - and was not disappointed:
Because this Splash smelled only remotely as I remembered it, and also completely different than everything used so far. And that was the special moment, the starting shot and the beginning, from now on to deal more precisely with the ingredients of our wonderful perfume cosmos:
So what is it about this supposed mainstream flop that I like so much? Why am I so attracted to this scent? To abbreviate it: It is the cardamom, to which I fell for the first time in this Joop ... and a little coriander, a lovely team. Splash opens powerful, citric-pointed and peppery-spicy at the same time that it chirps wonderfully in the nose (maybe that's why it's called that?!). Yeah, if he can't do anything else, he can: Not stingy with cardamom, paired with coriander, slightly green, spicy, aromatic, peppery; and this in contrast, but very harmonious combination to a warm, soft, sour fruitiness. So this fragrance manages to be as familiar as it is unusual, quasi MainstreamPLUS. He brings exactly the right amount of this sweet/sour "Kasowari" fruit, flanked by a light peppery spice, which I particularly like. So this "pleasing angularity" regularly gives me a good mood and I can always rely on his energetic endurance.
What? ... How can that be? At least 60-70 users rate his H & S as quite weak. This brings me to another point, which (just gaaaanz) might explain why I perceive this splash so differently than most perfumers, who probably perceive it as rather weak-chested and short-winded. Because my batch has with a shelf life of > 10 hours mighty endurance and also the Sillage is great, as if the fragrance had matured!
Oops?! Perfumes that mature? Probably bullshit, but this isn't the first time I've had this. Although I wear my perfumes more on my clothes than on my skin, so that the H & S usually have a stronger effect. But so much more? I experience the same with one of my other favorites, Sean John's Unforgivable: Parfumos durability 5.9 and Sillage 5.6, whereas this fragrance lasts up to 10 hours with me (see my commi) ... Probably matured too ;-)
Be that as it may, with the Joop! Splash it is not only the reliable durability and sillage, but above all the scent itself, which smells simply unusual and therefore appeals to me - whether it is "mature" (certainly not tilted!) or not ...
Anyway, it's too late to complain about him anyway. Joops Splash is off the market and no one is seriously interested in him anymore (last commi 3.5 years ago). On the other hand, I immediately bunkered myself a second 125ml bottle in order to appreciate it for a long time to come. Because every time it's his turn again to sweeten my day - this (un)beloved Joop !
