Intentional homage ...but only intended ...!
Now Montale Embruns d' Essaouria seems to have not been extensively tested here yet, or it is not worth writing a comment about. This is now my second fragrance from Montale that I have had the chance to experience, and I would like to share my impressions regarding it.
D' Essaouria is a port city on the Moroccan Atlantic coast, and its old town was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Embruns d’ Essaouria means "The Scent of Essaouria" and is most likely a tribute to this city.
Pierre Montale must have developed an affinity for this small coastal town through his love for the Arab and oriental world, in order to express his appreciation for this World Heritage Site with "Montale Embruns d’ Essaouria".
He probably wanted to convey the lightness and beauty of his fragrance to us, allowing us to partake in it.
The opening conveys a light breeze of seawater, evoking feelings of air, sun, the marketplace with its many spices, and the vastness of the blue ocean. Very maritime with a slight spiciness, without the salty note of seawater that is often present in many other fragrances. It is like a spring day, a blue sky with light white clouds, flowers blooming, leaving a floral and sweet-scented air throughout the city that develops into an aromatic and slightly fruity fragrance with the gentle sea breeze. The scent of woods dried by coastal air and warm sunny days leaves behind a beautiful soft, slightly warm scent profile that harmonizes beautifully with the floral-maritime nuances, giving the fragrance a more mature appearance.
Montale’s Embruns d’ Essaouria is completed with a soft, almost mild creaminess or powderiness that does not complicate this fragrance but makes it appear very rounded and balanced.
It is a light spring/summer fragrance that Pierre Montale also wants to convey to bring us closer to the carefree nature of this small port city, where tranquility and relaxation are lived and communicated.
The fragrance is meant to transport us to this place to enjoy its beauty with all its facets and to understand it to some extent.
A light fragrance that, due to its unobtrusiveness, is well-suited for both genders and does not overwhelm its wearer.
Unobtrusive, light, and summery but also nothing special. I could hardly perceive the fragrance after an hour, and the sillage is almost non-existent.
It is not disturbing but also not inspiring.

Chance not fully utilized
With the overwhelming number of Montale releases, no one should be surprised if a fragrance completely gets lost here and there. Especially those scents that do not have Aoud in the name - although it is precisely these that could show how much more the brand has to offer. Embruns d'Essaouria, however, did not really seize this opportunity today, even though I was very curious about it. Sea water often divides me like Moses did with it - sometimes I really enjoy that salty tingling, other times everything just smells too strongly of it, too fishy & algal. But this question did not really arise with EdE, as the scent is much more of a misguided all-rounder than an Aquatic.

Embruns d'Essaouria - I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but it promised a lot: exoticism, variety, something different, no Oud, humidity, wood, Africa. Unfortunately, what I got was a lukewarm impression of it. The scent starts floral-woody with a hint of gentle spice. An inconspicuous mix of Fleurs de Sel and Jungle Pour Homme. Sea salt is at most a figment on the sidelines, only projected into the environment with extremely good circulation. Cardamom, musk & a dry wood mix play a larger role. Exotic for the open-plan office, but rather boring for everything else. Furthermore, the scent seemed to fall apart over time; I felt it lost form & also a bit of my interest. It did fit on a stormy, gloomy spring day like today - as if the North Sea were in Tunisia. At times, the scent really reminded me of fog banks on the beach in Tunisia.

Bottle: do I need to say anything about that?
Sillage: above average.
Longevity: likewise - 8 hours.

Conclusion: a scent that you often have to test... only to then realize with disappointment that you hardly know it. Quite simply, because it is unfathomable - not unfathomably great, but just unfathomable, indecisive, erratic, trivial - sometimes sea, sometimes flowers, sometimes woody. Unfortunately nothing quite.

Musk with an almost stinky aquatic overdose. One of those fragrances that doesn't smell "pleasant" per se but you can't stop smelling it.

Iod is given as potassium iodide tablets during a nuclear incident. Couldn't we have left it at that? Horribly synthetic.

It narrowly avoids being "I-Don't-Like-It" thanks to the salty note. The creamy-woody base and the spice don't help much either.

Flowers that have been in water for a while, along with a mix of spices and artificial wood. Not bad, but not great either.

A lot of synthetic notes, brackish-salty water, and a diffuse woody-spicy mix leave me feeling rather puzzled. There are better sea scents.
