Beautiful orange, saffron, oud perfume

I need to start saying that I absolutely disagree with the current Scent rating (6.8) is by far a superior perfume. First of all, is refreshing, in the opening a zesty orange with an oud support (of course we know that it is not oud, Montale uses two "oud" the dark animal one, and the heavy wood support, in this case we have this second case), it will add in some minutes to a strong saffron, and a little bit mild and a little bit earthy patchouli.

So we have and oudrangish smell in all layers, plus saffron in the heart and patchouli in the base, this one is in the range of quality of the good Montales, superb sillage and longevity, not beast mode, but quite high.

People will like it, it's perfect for almost every occasion and for every season except hot summers.

The bridge

It took me a while to have to have a certain view on Montal spicy Aoud. In short it is a more well done version of Versace oud Noir. It has a softer smell and it doesn't have that sharp pepperiness and certainly has better and more high quality material used in it the performance on this is fantastic it projects and lasts a long time. A rich dense musky faux Oud with some spices sprinkled in the background.

Grandma scent with a spicy background - better suited for men!

I got a sample here (thanks, Fraglove!) and tested it this morning. I was unsure about the orange in the scent and wanted to test it first. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed: the orange makes the top note of Spicy Aoud smell like a grandma scent. Whether my grandma smelled like this, I can't say anymore, but this slightly powdery-creamy sweetness of the orange at the beginning reminds me of the cleaning foam my great-grandfather always used. After five minutes, the orange took a break, and a wonderfully spicy, almost peppery scent remained. Hooray! It's something for me!

Unfortunately no, because the orange, now nicely underlaid with saffron, returns and pulls the Spicy Aoud back into the grandma corner. I deliberately say grandma and not grandpa, because I perceive the scent as feminine. However, I can imagine that it might smell completely different on male skin. It's a shame, I really like the spicy base, but this orange sweetness in the foreground ruins the scent for me. I don't perceive hairspray, but rather something slightly soapy. Too bad, Spicy Aoud! I will find you a worthy wearer who suits you better.

Edit: Even though I'm risking a shitstorm - I let my son (almost 4) test the scent today, and I'm blown away. On him, Spicy Aoud smells wonderfully masculine and dark, just like a real pirate. ;) Maybe the scent is simply better suited for men. Of course, my son is still a few years away from being a man, but still, the scent clings to him, while it would rather run away from me. A clear recommendation for men!
