Angelys Pear Nicolaï 2020

A fresh and juicy pear in the opening, a bit of citrus but mostly pear. It smells absolutely phenomenal and it makes you excited for what you think is yet to come. But it sadly doesnt get better. The great pear in the opening fades rather quickly and the scent dries down into a clean powdery musky and slightly floral scent that is not particularly memorable.
It stays like that for the remaining duration and doesnt change much.

It seems like that is a problem that most of the Nicolai Parfumeur Createur Scents suffer from. They open phenomenaly and almost catfish you into a scent that fades after an hour and leaves no trace of what it once was. Honestly a shame because the opening was almost a 10/10 just for it to fade as quickly as it came.

The pear note in the first ten minutes is the highlight of the session's opening tier — green, slightly unripe, but inviting. The oakmoss-patchouli base gives it a chypre structure that elevates it above typical fruity florals and lends genuine gender neutrality. However it pulls close to skin quickly and the pear fades into a soft floral-powder drydown that moves in the opposite direction from my preferences.

Sweet pear with bright bergamot at the start. I heard the fragrance on my friend in the summer, how beautiful it sounded and played on her. And after I bought a 30 ml bottle, I was disappointed - I can't wear this scent. Either the pear or the jasmine suffocates .... So I decided to part with it.

Juicy, overripe pears are the theme of this new fragrance creation by Nikolai.

The composition is not new. From the very beginning, it strongly reminds me of another pear dedication that I already own - "Poirier d'un Soir" by Miller Harris. The same sweet, overripe pear juiciness on the verge of the fruit going bad. If I didn't know what fragrance I was wearing, I would have easily guessed Poirier in the first second.

However, in direct comparison (but also already when taking a closer sniff), the subtle but important differences reveal themselves. Where "Poirier" appears sweeter, stickier, darker, and more chocolatey, presenting itself as a dessert, "Angelys Pear" reveals itself as airier, lighter, less sweet, and only very subtly chocolatey, as if one had opened the window and let in a lot of fresh air. The air seems to be a sea breeze, and in the base, the scent even appears interestingly slightly salty.

I like "Angelys Pear" far better than "Poirier," which I bought blindly and often seems too dense, too much, too sticky for me. "Poirier" lacks the lightness and airiness that "Angelys Pear" brings. "Angelys Pear" seems much more wearable and interesting.

"Angelys Pear" has great longevity (all day) and a nice, rather very mediocre airy sillage, as it seems to me. Thus, the scent is also suitable for the office.

In any case, I find the scent not new, but well done (better than the original, if I may say so ;) ). Test it if you like Poirier...
