Royal
Royal Elixir is the name for Ambre Royal (EDP) in the perfume version poured at 42% perfume oil concentration. In the first phase (up to approx. 1h) with the EDP, the jasmine is the main actor for me. The elixir is more balanced and lets orange blossom and jasmine sound in harmony. Floral and drawn with more detail.

In general, both fragrances are quite similar, only the Elixir gives me the impression that everything is much more harmonious and delicate. The sweetness of the amber notes seems more filigree and conscious. The fragrance radiates more than the already impressive EDP. With a fragrance as bright as Ambre Royal / Elixir, almost glistening.

Further on the quality of the Ormonde Jayne fragrances shines more and more. The Ambroxan used here creates, also at the perfume concentration of the Elixir, no shower gel vibe, but simply brings more freshness into the Drydown and extends the smell, on my skin, over the 10 hour mark. The fragrance remains ambrier-floral and is complemented by the freshness described above, with light-woody nuances.

With Royal Elixir, Ormonde Jayne presents a fragrance that radiates power and craftsmanship. It fits very well to the trends of the sweeter, floral men's fragrances and combines these with classic approaches. The higher concentration of perfume oil is particularly noticeable in the omnipresent royal rays that seem to emanate from the skin.

Royal flowers in a mushy liquid!
With Ormonde Jayne perfumes, I find myself in a certain dilemma: On one hand, these appealing, mostly attractive, and always wearable little waters are consistently great scents. On the other hand, I wonder if, despite a good price-performance ratio and these partly olfactory flatterers, I would actually buy the bottles in this specific case, meaning I would spend money on them. This applies to almost the entire range of the brand, which surprises me and leaves me a bit puzzled...

Is it because many scents ultimately lack a certain "zing"? Or is it just the rough edges that make a fragrance somewhat uneven, yet also more interesting? Does the brand, in my case, suffer from overly styled, perfect scent experiences that ultimately lack excitement and evoke a certain boredom...?

At least not always: Because Royal Elixier is an Ormonde Jayne that additionally has something that makes fragrances interesting. There is something here that tempts me to make a purchase and that encompasses more than just a perfect scent. Royal Elixier is a floral, spicy fragrance; it has a synthetic quality, is wonderfully composed, with those mentioned rough edges. It is not directly creamy, but rather mushy-creamy (if that makes sense...). And just this characteristic of Royal Elixier is already an experience.

I find it hard to pick out the individual scent ingredients from this harmonious presentation - simply because the fragrance is too intricately woven and manages to present itself as a kind of "total scent unit." The entirety, this floral mix, seems to be embedded in some kind of tincture that certainly possesses a certain heaviness and exudes a slight bitterness or a very subtly appearing herbaceousness.

Royal Elixier is suitable for both women and men, actually intended for any occasion, simply because the perfume comes across as elegant, is understated, and always makes a good impression. Since the scent DNA carries a certain elevated quality, it may be less suitable for young people, but that is probably a matter of taste. Perhaps it is more for established personalities who have a certain inner drive and want to subtly integrate into a community while simultaneously maintaining an independent character.

The longevity is great, the sillage and projection are subtle, although the fragrance shows a certain presence and can be penetrating depending on the spray intensity. When the wearer of this Ormonde Jayne enters a room, he or she will certainly be noticed, but the scent rather subtly makes its way into the noses of others... which is also, like the entire Royal Elixier, fascinating and adds another exciting facet to it.

Bright and Transparent
Ormonde Jayne is one of those brands whose creations possess a special aesthetic. Sustainably shaped by Geza Schön's signature, one can usually recognize a certain complexity along with a high level of transparency, which makes the fragrances feel very modern. Royal Elixir also embodies these qualities, although I find others like Nawab of Oudh or Montabaco (Intensivo) to appear comparatively fuller.

Like Ambre Royal, this is not a typical amber fragrance, as this category usually features heavy, resinous, and much sweeter accords. Instead, Ambre Royal and Royal Elixir are airier, brighter, and therefore not really sensual - I wouldn't describe them as truly fresh either. The distinctive features of both, besides the light amber, are the floral notes, which come with a certain creaminess, and the Ambroxan, which together with the cedar forms a decidedly non-heavy, woody base.

To me, Royal Elixir not only feels stronger than Ambre Royal but also overall more balanced. I can really smell the green notes here at the beginning, and the floral heart notes are noticeably fuller. I can easily imagine jasmine, orange blossom, and orchid - but not rose at all. When it comes to creamy fragrances, different characteristics can be meant: In this case, I think of high-quality body lotion. Fortunately, the sweetness of the tonka bean holds back. I perceive it a bit stronger in Ambre Royal. Throughout the entire duration, the radiant scent of the flowers remains present; only cedar and Ambroxan later provide a stronger woody component, which stands out here more than in the predecessor.
(It is worth noting that one should not make the mistake of automatically associating Ambroxan with rather cheaply made shower gel scents. The test of Molecule 02 is recommended in this context.)

The price of €215 for 50 ml may be somewhat daunting, but you are offered a high-quality perfume that is particularly suitable for spring and autumn. The tendency leans overall more towards the stereotypically feminine, but men can also wear Royal Elixir well, as there is no cloying floral sweetness to be feared. (Not that I would appreciate that more in women...) As Maggy4u has aptly put it, it leaves a bright radiance. Thus, Royal Elixir possesses an elegant aura that is perceivable by others for hours - my clothes still smell distinctly of it the next day.

Initially uplifting and spicy citric-green, a gently resinous, yet dry fruity-floral Spring fragrance, balanced by a clean musky-woody base.

I've tried all the famous O.Jaynes and this is my favorite, osmanthus+flowers+amber, unisex and amazing performance.

More harmonious than Ambre Royal, but still a musky-creamy stroll through the herb and flower garden with a leap into the Ambrox sea.

Absolutely cool - a different floral scent, fresh-citrusy and minty-cool flower mix - more green stems than blooms, similar to: Charmes & Feuilles

Creamy-clean with a woody-amber spice, a hint of flowers and minimal sweetness. For me, it's rather cool to distant. Unfortunately, there's a sharp synthetic base.

For amber enthusiasts, an extremely fine, creamy drop. Since amber takes my breath away, this scent is perfect for free diving.
