There is no point of this existing at all
Released five years ago as a “limited edition” exclusively for Harrods, it ended up being a complete and straight-up deception from the brand, proving that you should not believe everything niche brands say. This kind of dishonesty is something that we should not accept and will be displayed in my final opinion.

TOP NOTES
Verano is not a scent to be dismissed. It is a pleasant fragrance, a people-pleaser that most average consumers and enthusiasts will find enjoyable, reassuring its likeability. However, it’s worth noting that Montabaco Verano shares similarities with Bvlgari Tygar, Sospiro Vibrato, and other fragrances in its price range. The star of the show here is the grapefruit note. It’s bright and zesty and instantly awakens the senses. Grapefruit is a common choice for top notes as it offers a clean and uplifting quality, perfect for setting the tone for the fragrance. However, this grapefruit is miles below in quality and found in almost double the price of cheaper scents such as Terre d’Hermes Eau Givree and Light Blue Forever Pour Homme, which is a straight-up joke. Besides this uplifting citrus, I also get orange and juniper berries of the same quality found in Ormonde Man, some cold-pressed cardamom, and touches of clary sage, which are popular today.

HEART NOTES
As soon as the grand opening settles down, you can see Schoen’s signature in the heart and the base. Specifically, I like the way he mixes synthetic molecules with natural notes. Of the heart notes mentioned, the only ones I truly get are the green tea accord and the ozonic feeling of violet. In addition to those green and floral notes, the heart is dominated by an overdose of ISO-E-Super, cashmeran, ambroxan, and javanol.

BASE NOTES
Things fall apart at the base, so I’m glad I did not purchase Verano at its total retail price. It all boils down to the musky leather and ashy tobacco. The sad thing about this is that it doesn’t excel at any of those notes, which is more tragic when you know that all of these are my favorite notes in perfumery. But the funniest thing is that I like this fragrance regardless of its drawbacks and how it’s an expensive clone of Tygar with a couple of twists and turns.

OVERALL
love to wear this fragrance and will probably keep it in my collection until I finish it. Due to its obvious drawbacks, this review seems a bit more negative but realistically objective. I wish more reviewers had done more and kept the product pushing minimally. Look around the fragrance discounter websites, and you’ll likely find a much better deal than its retail price.

Unconventional tobacco
Ormond Jayne as a brand has never really caught my attention. I knew about it and I’ve had couple of samples but that’s it. The only thing I keep in mind is their White Gold that my mom was liking so much.

For some unknown (even for myself) reason I’ve decided to try Monotabaco and its flankers. This one grew on me so I’ve decided to add a full bottle to my collection.

Verano smells nothing like a regular tobacco perfume. Instead, it’s a light and airy tea scent to my nose. It opens up with an ozony-citrusy note and evolves into a slightly spiced tea composition. Tobacco here starts showing up slowly in the drydown. This tobacco note, or a composition itself I’d rather say reminds me of an empty pack of cigarettes opened somewhere on a high altitude.

I can understand people saying it’s a synthetic fragrance. Is it a photorealistic tobacco smell? No? Does this smell synthetic because of the low quality ingredients? Also no. I believe it doesn’t smell realistic enough because it was never intended to smell that way. It’s Van Gogh’s interpretation of reality, an interesting mix of notes that doesn’t represent our reality. However, I can imagine the smell of air in the mountains being somewhat close to what you get from the composition here (mountain air is a note listed on Fragrantica). I also don’t think it smells like Bulgari Tygar to be honest, but I will have to retest Tygar to be 100% sure.

Ormonde Jayne beauty...
So what I get when smelling this a refreshing ripe Grapefruit that you just picked off from a tree. The type that just puts you in a great mood.

You the Rose then brings a slight powdery vibe and then as it dries down you begin to get a suede/ cashmere combination that’s been sprinkled with tobacco.

I remember having a sample of the Montabaco Intensivo and this one. With Montabaco Intensivo the Tobacco, Suede and the Sandalwood truly shines with that fragrance giving you that sensual and smooth type of vibe. With Montabaco Verano you're getting a vibrant yet seductive type of scent with the Grapefruit, Rose, along with the Suede to make this a gem of a fragrance.

Did not meet expectations
I got this as one of two free samples from Ormonde Jayn at Fenwick department store after chatting up the sales person for an hour.
Compared to the other one, Xi'An, this is so disappointing. It smells... uninspired. It's not bad, it's not great. The notes seem interesting, but frankly there is too much going on to really get at in my experience. Mostly I get a ton of grapefruit and bergamot in the opening which gives way to mostly Iso E Super / Ambroxan combination. As others have pointed out, it is kind of like Tygar and adjacent scents but I would not purchase this.

A very similar profile is the Maison Alhambra clone of L'Immensite (I believe its called Jean Lowe Immortel), admittedly this has a more sophisticated and complex smell over that.

The Upgrade
Montabaco is already a masterpiece. Modern yet with a classic masculine attitude. With this fragrance, Geza has perfectly delivered. For anyone who preferred something a bit edgier, the ISO-powered versions Intensivo and Extremé quickly followed. The latter pushed the limits of what was still legally acceptable in terms of concentration levels of ISO-E-Super.

For me, it has always been the fresh start that excited me about Montabaco. This sour-citrusy blend of juniper with the underlying theme of wood. And this is where Verano comes in. Exactly where other flankers relied on a higher dose of ISO-E-Super, it takes the path of emphasizing and significantly extending the citrus and orange notes.

In doing so, it creates a noticeably fresher Montabaco that could especially appeal to a younger audience. It is easy to wear and yet has a very strong uniqueness. While one can be olfactorily blind or even hypersensitive (like me) to ISO-E, every fan of the classic will surely find this welcome update.

The fragrance is incredibly long-lasting - 2 sprays are perfect for my office situation and carry me through the workday. In my leisure time - I might even double it.

Verano is for me the perfect balance of freshness, a bit of fruit, a lot of suede, tobacco, and wood.

It couldn't be done any better.

Montabaco Verano opens with grapefruit, Ambroxan and a woodsy note. The drydown is an airy ISO-E with tobacco and a hint of tonka bean.

Opens with a beautiful grapefruit note in the vain of Bvlgari Tygar, then settles down to the classic Montabaco DNA. Beautiful scent.

Is this THE high heat tobacco scent!? Juicy grapefruit, fresh air and hints of citrus tea with a pronounced leathery tobacco throughout

Pleasing tobacco for the summer. Aren’t too many tobaccos literally geared for summer. Not cloying or overwhelming. Really nice.

Fresh and bitter in the opening; a bit of sweetness comes out in the dry-down. Grapefruit stands out; don't get much tobacco on my skin.

Bold ozonic citrus-spice blend with rugged masculinity. Creative but lacks smooth transitions; better for classic fragrance fans.

In the humid air
there's a breeze full of herbs and citrus
then Iso-E and tobacco hit you around the corner
at 30°C+ it's tough!

The scent unfolds in layers: Beneath the grapefruit, there's herbaceousness, and underneath that, dark woody notes and Cashmeran / ISO-E.

Fruitier and more citrusy than the Intensivo, otherwise a similarly beautiful tobacco scent with elegant freshness. Sillage, however, is lower than with the Intensivo.
