A person who loves expensive things.
Normally I'm more into the statement section of parfumo, but with Sybarite I had to get over myself and write my first review. I have to say that I found out about Ormonde Jayne's new release by chance, just as I had seen the video about Tiktok, it was immediately clear: I had to have this fragrance! The name also sounded very interesting at first listen, Sybarite = a person who loves expensive things (I had to google it first, and let's be honest, who doesn't love expensive things?). The fragrance notes also looked promising and so I decided to go for a blind buy. Unfortunately, this fragrance is exclusive to the London boutique, which made things difficult at first. Well, after contacting customer service, I was able to place my order and eagerly awaited my package :). My parcel finally arrived at the weekend and I was able to test the fragrance extensively.
Flacon:
The bottle is typical of Ormonde Jayne, a classically elegant shape with a tight-fitting lid. As I like to take my bottles from my shelf by the lid, I'm glad that it's not loose. Overall, the bottle is nice and heavy in the hand and feels very high-quality. The atomizer sprays evenly with a fine mist. The color, purple, also fits the name and the fragrance perfectly, as historically this was considered a royal color.
Fragrance:
Freshly sprayed, the hazelnut dominates with slightly peppery notes, although the rose is also noticeable. This is underlined by a pleasant sweetness that can be perceived right up to the DD. After a few minutes (approx. 30-40 minutes), the peppery notes diminish and the rose becomes softer, but still perceptible, and both make room for a wonderful creaminess. This creaminess of iris butter, jasmine and vanilla underlines the hazelnut note so perfectly that I have to say that it was precisely this creaminess that captivated me. The floral notes typical of Ormonde Jayne accompany the hazelnut until the DD, where you arrive after a few hours. Here, the mix of vanilla and musk awaits. For me, the woody notes in the base are rather weak to barely perceptible. The longevity and sillage are very good, even after 8-10 hours I could perceive the fragrance on my skin. The fragrance lasted even longer on my clothes, so I sniffed it over the whole weekend.
For me, the fragrance is definitely more feminine, but I could also imagine Sybarite on a man in a suit. The fragrance is very elegant and you feel immediately energized when you spray it on. I would rather wear it in the evening, when going out or on certain occasions, as it is very special and I associate a certain style with the fragrance. It has no rough edges, but rather fine transitions that are very successful overall.
Conclusion:
Sybarite is a masterpiece, I can only agree with the previous speaker. It will also definitely be a fragrance that not everyone will have in their collection, simply due to the fact that it is only available in the London boutique. In my opinion, it is good value for money, but of course you have to remember that this is a niche fragrance and you have to decide for yourself whether the high price is justified. If you are ever in London, I would definitely recommend a visit to the boutique :). Whether you absolutely have to have Sybarite in your collection is of course debatable. However, I am happy to have this beautiful fragrance in my collection.
