A citrus scent that is NOT for the summer
As a wood lover, all my scents lean towards the fall & winter season. However, the summer is coming, so the task of finding a light & refreshing scent becomes increasingly urgent. Mahina came to me as a contradiction. It’s a citrus & fresh scent, yet it has a good longevity!!! How could it be? What about the axiom: citrus scent cannot last long??? Intrigued, I’ve decided to test it out.
Bought a sample from a reputable souk partner. The package arrived fast, and I eagerly sprayed it on my wrist (it may not be the perfect area to wear fragrance, but it’s convenient to test a new fragrance on my skin). The first impression is: DELIGHT:-). The citrus notes jump out joyfully; it’s as if Mandarin and Lemon are dancing in front of you.
However, what comes immediately after is a wall of denseness. Usually, citrus scents give out a light and airy sensation, but NOT this one. There is a heavy and dense sensation to the scent, which I often found in middle east perfumeries. It probably explains its longer lasting performance.
Talking of longevity, I’d call it moderate. It’s definitely longer than many citrus or green fragrance that I’ve owned/tested, but not by a significant margin. It lasts between 2~3 hours on my skin (FYI, my skin eats out fragrance fast). The projection is also moderate. Despite the heavy sensation, it forms a scent bubble around you, and does not project very far (a plus to me).
After wearing it for some time, I grew to like it, but am a little torn on whether to own a full bottle. It is a fresh note due to its citrus note, but not a refreshing scent that “cools down” everyone that smells it. Therefore, Spring and Fall would be the best season to wear, but not Summer.
