A citrus scent that is NOT for the summer
As a wood lover, all my scents lean towards the fall & winter season. However, the summer is coming, so the task of finding a light & refreshing scent becomes increasingly urgent. Mahina came to me as a contradiction. It’s a citrus & fresh scent, yet it has a good longevity!!! How could it be? What about the axiom: citrus scent cannot last long??? Intrigued, I’ve decided to test it out.

Bought a sample from a reputable souk partner. The package arrived fast, and I eagerly sprayed it on my wrist (it may not be the perfect area to wear fragrance, but it’s convenient to test a new fragrance on my skin). The first impression is: DELIGHT:-). The citrus notes jump out joyfully; it’s as if Mandarin and Lemon are dancing in front of you.

However, what comes immediately after is a wall of denseness. Usually, citrus scents give out a light and airy sensation, but NOT this one. There is a heavy and dense sensation to the scent, which I often found in middle east perfumeries. It probably explains its longer lasting performance.

Talking of longevity, I’d call it moderate. It’s definitely longer than many citrus or green fragrance that I’ve owned/tested, but not by a significant margin. It lasts between 2~3 hours on my skin (FYI, my skin eats out fragrance fast). The projection is also moderate. Despite the heavy sensation, it forms a scent bubble around you, and does not project very far (a plus to me).

After wearing it for some time, I grew to like it, but am a little torn on whether to own a full bottle. It is a fresh note due to its citrus note, but not a refreshing scent that “cools down” everyone that smells it. Therefore, Spring and Fall would be the best season to wear, but not Summer.

The sunset
Just like with Amalaya It was today, when I went to the perfumery unsuspectingly to get a new fragrance, which is not the subject here today, when I wanted to leave the perfumery I decided to test the new d'Elmar fragrances. I was at the d'Elmar stand and in front of me was the founder Elmar Métry,
who introduced me to the fragrances and gave me such a consultation, with such a fascination for his own creation as I have never had before and not only did the consultation convince me, but this is one of the best blood orange fragrances I have ever smelled.

It immediately opens loudly, a tart strongly projecting citric, a depth that is immediately noticeable, a slight sweetness that follows through the mandarin and a sharp citric that runs through the whole fragrance.
An incredibly long-lasting citrus fragrance and a very natural one at that.

I have never noticed such an authentic blood orange before and this fragrance has the potential to be on everyone's lips in the mainstream, or rather on everyone's neck.

Métry told me about this fragrance that the inspiration was to capture the sunset and Wohlaus succeeded, a slight coolness underlines the citrus, the sunset should also be recognizable on the bottle, a dark red/orange shimmer.

A clear recommendation from me, especially for the summer, a fragrance you should have tested!

Super beautiful, even if there are hints of the familiar
I really like Mahina.
The DNA is roughly known from candidates such as Bvlgari Tygar, Afnan Turathi Blue, Jovoy 21 Conduit St, etc., but he has also brought his own twist to it. Furthermore, I am a fan of this DNA of the above-mentioned fragrances anyway.

Mahina is fresh, citrusy, slightly woody and spicy, sweet and elegant at the same time.
It can certainly be described as an oriental-inspired freshness.

Compared to Turathi Blue, for example, which I own myself, Mahina is a little more sparkling and a tick less oriental in my opinion.
This so authentically fresh, tangy, juicy blood orange comes across really well and harmonizes perfectly with this slightly oriental flair, the woody facets and the floral nuances.

After a while, the blood orange takes a step back for me and the ripe mandarin takes over more.
Furthermore, the subtle and delicately used floral nuances also come through somewhat.
I even had the impression of smelling a hint of neroli.

Towards the end, it is simply a super beautiful woody musk base in which you can still recognize a little of this freshness.

The performance is also really positive.
It lasts about 8-11 hours on me.
The projection is super good in the initial phase and then diminishes bit by bit.

The known unknown I The beauty of the blood moon, which is not in the shadow of the earth...
The Mahina is said to reflect the energy of the blood moon. If anyone has done a bit of research on the subject: The blood moon occurs when the moon is in the Earth's umbra and turns slightly reddish in color... shadows are associated with anything but energy and vibrancy, but... that's exactly what Mahina delivers, and yes, I'm grateful for that!

Now, enough theory, let's take a closer look at the fragrance:

- The Mahina opens with a wonderful, tangy blood orange, which has a really revitalizing, almost tingling effect on the skin with the mandarin and citrus. A blast of freshness and fruitiness, but not a heavy fruitiness like in "Erba Pura | XerJoff" or similar fragrances, but almost sharp-citrusy and perfectly rounded off by the blood orange. This beautiful opening lasts relatively long compared to other freshies and makes the fragrance really special; the highlight of the fragrance!
- In the next phase, you can smell a beautifully realized peony, which gives the fragrance a slightly floral side, delicately fresh, clean and, thanks to the jasmine, slightly sweet and spicy, before the fragrance then leads into a soft, beautiful woody musky base, where the fragrance surprisingly lasts a very long time. For a freshie, you really can't complain!

- As just mentioned, the longevity is really great for a freshie and the sillage is also really good and in the upper range; you just always have to put it in the context of fresh fragrances! In this respect, more than satisfied in terms of H/S.

All in all, a wonderful, sparkling and powerful summer fragrance that you can't really go wrong with. Yes, of course, the price is set very high, but some of the alternatives are at a similar price level.

...and yes, now we come to the last topic: Do we need the Mahina? Aren't there already enough fragrances with similar scent DNA such as Le Gemme - Tygar, Vibrato, Afternoon Swim or Aqua de Dora? There are two simple answers:

1) If you are a "normalo", definitely not! It's the nuances that make the difference.

2) But if you're a perfume fanatic, it's exactly these differences that make something exciting. Personally, I got the Mahina, although I also have all the other fragrances (Tygar only as a bottling, but I've known the scent for a long time). In this respect, I can make the comparison, but I will only do so at a "high-level", otherwise it would go beyond the scope of this review. Now Mahina in comparison to....

- ... Le Gemme - Tygar also opens refreshingly, but primarily due to the grapefruit. The grapefruit is sparkling, but nowhere near as sparkling and full as the blood orange. In the DD, the fragrances do become similar.

- ... Vibrato also opens with a tangy grapefruit like Le Gemme - Tygar, but this one is also slightly floral. Here too; blood orange is more sparkling and fruity. Compared to Mahina, however, Vibrato is more woody and powdery in the drydown (DD).

- ... Afternoon Swim works with a tangy ginger-tangerine combo that is already similar to Mahina, but lacks this fruity effervescence at the beginning, which is produced by the blood orange. The orange that is included also smells nowhere near as tart and fresh as the blood orange in Mahina. In the DD, however, the Afternoon Swim is far less woody-floral, but remains fresh and watery.

- ... Aqua de Dora also has a fresh opening with grapefruit and citrus, but here it is more the citrus from the lemon zest; you can smell it well. Here, despite the initial freshness, the fragrance is complemented with a special chestnut note and becomes far creamier in the drydown, even if fresh, thanks to the cashmeran and sandalwood

In this respect, experienced noses can smell the differences in the fragrances and appreciate these nuances, but not a "must have" for normal people. Hope this article helps you a bit :)

Blood orange = summer 2024!
I was out and about in Stuttgart last week and couldn't avoid looking around a perfumery with niche fragrances.
I quickly came across the corner of Parfums d'elmar, the bottles already made a very high-quality impression and so I decided to try something new.
The Mahina, which had just been released in 2024, was absolutely amazing for me! The blood orange in combination with the mandarin smells so authentic and fresh, as if you were smelling the fruit itself.
I wore the fragrance all day to test it out first.
The first thing that struck me was the fragrance's excellent longevity and lasting effervescence.
The performance was really great and the fragrance progression between citrusy and fruity was more pleasant and fresh than any other fragrance I have smelled so far and there were some high-careers in there ;).
When I could still smell the fragrance in the late afternoon and experienced the drydown consisting of woody and floral notes, I was hooked! I had to have this fragrance.
It has to be said that as the fragrance progresses, the tangy blood orange fades into the background and a soft, elegant mandarin takes over.
I was told that the fragrance is supposed to embody a sunset, which I think describes it very aptly.

The bottle and the sprayer are very beautifully made and of high quality.
I really have to emphasize the sprayer because it nebulizes phenomenally well.

I can only recommend everyone to test it once, because I think that Mahina smells really very special compared to other fruit fragrances.

While it is definitely true that the notes as well as the composition are not on the „newer side“, in my honest opinion, Mahina is more well-rounded.

Lovely mandarin orange at first but turns into the worn out Le Gemme - Tygar DNA and its many clones, pick your poison

Sweet, long-lasting citrus scent of blood orange and mandarin with a floral and smooth Ambroxan base. Too similar to Bvlgari Tygar.

Its a good scent but smells way to similar, last as long and has the same sillage as turathi blue considering it costs 8 times as much.

A strong and long-lasting citrus scent. A little on the heavy side, but can be a great add-on to the collection
