Dispensable one
L'Homme Absolu was missing from my collection for years, because this is less common, and rarely appears at Parfumo souk or buy&sell groups.
Now I found one for a very reasonable price (75€ for a 99ml bottle), actually it was cheaper than the Intense version, so immediately grabbed it.

My first impressions:
D'oh! This is a blend of Intense(90%) and L'Eau(10%).
Absolu is a big big disappointment to me.
I expected a little bit more creativity from Prada, and now I understand the reason why Absolu didn't became popular.
Because it barely differs from Intense (which is much better btw).

Feeling at home with Prada L'homme line
First of all let me say I'm in love with the whole Prada L'Homme line so do not expect this to be negative review. To put everything into context, I have to mention the whole line one by one.

My journey with this line started with the original L'Homme and it was a love at first sniff. It's all you hear about it and then some. Clean, unique, professional, unforgettable. Great for spring / summer day use. Very likable and inoffensive. Nobody will complain about the way you semll.

I couldn't resist and shortly after the purchase of L'Homme I went to a store to smell also L'Homme Intense and L'Homme L'Eau. From the two I immediatelly decided to purchase Intense version as a counterpart to the OG. It is more aggresive, sharper version suitable for cold weather and night occasions. Performance is almost unbeliveable: 12+ hours with 3-4 hours of great projection and sillage. Just wonderful!

On the other hand I did not enjoy L'Eau that much at first. Sure, it is a fresher version of the original, but that goes only for the opening. Once it hits the mid and later a drydown, it loses part of the magic the original has. At the time I felt it is not necessary as for the office use original L'Homme has it all and I always felt this line is targeted for professional environment / dressed up occasions where you more often spend time in air conditioned rooms. If you are looking for a summer freshie, you can do much better then L'Eau imho.

But wait: isn't that what everybody says about L'Homme Absolu? Excessive, unnecessary release? In my opinion? ABSOLUtely NOT!!!

Instead of thinking why not to like it I immediately discovered what hole it is supposed to fill in the line. Imagine you spend your work day wearing L'Homme during the spring / summer and then decide to hit the downtown with your colleagues for some evening dinner / drink. (I know, during this Covid situation it sounds like a sci-fi). Here the Intense version would be too much and that's when it's the right time for Absolu. You don't even need to worry about getting rid of the L'Homme version and you can just layer it with Absolu and be ready to go!

Later in the year when the weather starts to get colder, original L'homme might not be strong enough to cut through the cold air even during the day and Absolu becomes great substitute for your daily office driver. I find the performance to be on the level of Intense version, but it is a bit less loud and better suited for daily use in professional environment. Combine it with Intense and you are covered for nights out/ business dinners / drinks.

I noticed some people are complaining about the performance of Absolu...maybe I'm just lucky, but it performs the same as the Intense on my skin. Yesterday at 1pm I sprayed my forearm once and I could still smell it when I woke up today at 8am. Not projecting, but it still was easilly recognizable skin scent. And did I mention I took a shower before I went to bad? It's a monster!

After falling in love with L'Homme / Absolu / Intense I decided to give L'Eau another chance and you can probably guess how it all went :) Yes, I went with a full bottle of that one as well as Water Splash. Honestly if there is any redundancy in this line, it's between these two flankers. They are very similar and if you do not need to own the whole line, you can easily skip one of these two. My recommandation would be to buy L'Eeu.

In my opinion the whole Prada L'Homme line is a masterpiece and every professional should have in their arsenal.

For me, the best L'Homme.
As a fan of the L'Homme fragrance DNA, I have now tried all the flankers of the original. And even though there is much debate about the necessity of the various flankers, I believe that all the "reinterpretations" of the L'Homme line noticeably differ from one another. This is also true for the Absolut.

It comes across as spicier and more intense than the original, but it doesn't overdo the sweetness, which I think is the case with the Intense. Although the scent development of the Absolut is, in my opinion, not particularly exciting, but rather modest, it impresses mainly with its excellent performance. This is already unexpectedly good with the original, but the Absolut reaches a whole new level. For me, that means: sprayed on in the morning and still clearly noticeable in the evening. Especially on clothing, this scent seems to never fade away. Wonderful. Especially now in the colder season, this scent is a perfect all-rounder for me. Unobtrusive yet something truly special.
As mentioned in the title: For me, the perfect choice for someone looking for a true all-rounder. Especially in the colder season. So, if the original is a bit too weak for you and the Intense is a bit too sweet, the Absolut is a very good option.

Another much-needed flanker for me! :D
I ask my predecessor Maltek to consider this not as a contradiction, but as an extension of his remarks!

His comment certainly reflects the opinion and taste of many, if not most people here, regarding the Prada L'Homme line.

Unfortunately for me, L'Homme Intense is a scent that is too sweet and unruly, lacking any counterbalance. (See my comment on that...)

I was all the more curious when I realized that there is indeed a more intense "half-brother" of this fragrance line, quietly released! :)

In one point, I must agree with you:
If you know one Prada L'Homme, you know them all. The DNA is unmistakably present in all of them, and in any blind test, I would recognize each one as Prada L'Homme.

For me, however, Prada L'Homme Absolu is just a little less sweet than Intense, which is necessary, and with the cardamom (or whatever it really is), it has just a bit more counterbalance to the sweetness, saving the overall impression for me.

Absolu is therefore more balanced, and unlike Intense, it is truly wearable and enjoyable for me, even though the difference to its closely related family members is really not that great.
So let's say a small but decisive difference for me!

For the average consumer of uninformed nature, who buys a sweet fragrance for the winter season on the advice of their partner once every two years, the difference when testing in the department store is probably questionable... L'Homme, Absolu, Intense, are primarily more intense in ascending order.

The slight difference in the notes and the tuning is more for olfactory enthusiasts.

For me, both aspects apply: the intensity in Absolu is on the edge of what is possible in this composition without overwhelming me.
And I like the slight spicy note so much that I would have wished for significantly more of it.
However, I find that the additional spice is not limited to the fleeting top notes; it quietly but noticeably radiates in the heart and base of the fragrance as well.

Yes, that would be it for me overall.

So, a sweet-woody, slightly spicy iris scent, with a bit of freshness in tow. And indeed the iconic Prada L'Homme DNA, if you will, as the foundation.

For me, these are the two, L'Homme & L'Homme Absolu, that I would acquire from the line or will acquire.

Even though one can still say that all flankers of L'Homme carry a certain redundancy, thus deserving the label "For Fans," from my perspective.

I simply find the original to be the best, and it is perfectly balanced and tuned, and should not be missing from any modern man's collection! ;)

Never change a winning team
Prada L'Homme has made a name for itself beyond fragrance enthusiasts and is selling quite well. The reaction from the marketing department was predictable, and so one flanker after another is being pulled out of the hat: L'Eau, Intense, this Absolu, and Watersplash.

The bottle resembles the Intense in shape and color but has been adorned with a pattern on the back. Personally, I find that quite nice.
The color suggests a familial relationship, and indeed, Absolu is very similar to Intense. While the regular L'Homme was too feminine for some men, the Intense introduced a darker, "more masculine" variant. In Absolu, the Intense is complemented by a hefty dose of cardamom. I’ll be honest with you: I’m a sucker for cardamom, one of my absolute favorite fragrance notes. It really comes through here and accompanies the scent throughout its entire progression. This naturally means that it is sweeter. However, it starts with a lovely freshness that lasts for about 15 minutes. Aside from that, though, that’s about it for the differences from Intense. Projection and sillage are really good, as is longevity. For me, the scent radiates at arm's length for two to three hours, and the overall longevity is around nine to ten hours, so really very good. You can definitely wear it at work, but due to the sillage and performance, I see it more for the evening hours. Generally, I would rather wear its fresher brothers in warmer weather and during the day.
Do you need the Absolu if you already have the Intense? For me, a clear yes and no :P. If you’re not totally into cardamom, the Intense serves you well. For a friend, for example, the Absolu doesn’t last nearly as long; I’m really blessed with my skin.

I think Prada looked at "L'Homme," saw all the YSL flankers, and thought: "Great, let's do that too!"

75% L'Homme - 25% L'Homme Intense, why is this scent now at an even higher price?! I understand the perfume world less and less, it's unnecessary :-(

Light version or very close to the regular L'Homme. I smell no difference.
Unnecessary flanker.
Not worth testing.
Not needed.

A bit of individuality would have suited it well!
Instead, it's just a mix of its brothers.
Not bad, but what a pity!

Spicier and sweeter than the EdT. Perfect for autumn/spring. Very versatile for the seasons too. I like it!

Typical L'Homme scent can't even come close to the wonderful bottle. If there are so many versions, why not more variety?

It has something of the EDT and Intense but also a Sauvage perfume + Ferragamo F Black DNA! So with 4 in 1, it's a great experience for feeling good ;)

I love the original L'Homme above all. But everything that followed feels quite unnecessary. This one smells like the Intense...
