But it said rhubarbs!?
To me, Ralph Lauren is a joker. Perfume-wise that is. You never know what you are going to get when spraying one of his fragrances. Actually, Ralph Lauren has disappointed me many times. According to my partner, RL has not made any good male fragrances. I am not willing to state the same opinion about the female side, simply because of Safari and Woman Edp Intense.
Before I decided to downsize my collection I had nine RL bottles. Among them I only liked two so much that I wanted them to stay. The two are Safari and Woman Edp Intense. With these two I am convinced that they have the quality and individuality it takes for me to keep interest.
Safari is a genius juice in a blasting bottle. I have a full size bottle and an amazing purse bottle- both cherished and appreciated (Review in the making)
With Woman it is the bottle and the juice that, combined, leaves an expression of sophistication and great materials.
Woman has a beautiful development. First I get berries. The citric note is not insisting, more dwelling, in this and underneath I can smell the flowers that are about to bloom. It makes me wait impatiently; it gives me time to enjoy the berries. And then… Jasmine and tuberose takes over. Again the notes are not overwhelming as in some other fragrances I know. The notes seem to just blend on the skin and leave a trail of goodness for the wearer. Finally I get vanilla. Lovely and sweet vanilla as it is supposed to smell. But what happened to the rhubarbs?! Every time I spray this scent I try to catch a whiff of the both sweet and citric smell. I have not been able to. Sadly.
The bottle is what takes the fragrance over the top, for me. I adore chubby bottles, and this is really something else. The lid is more or less the same as on a Zippo lighter (hello teens from the 80s!) and the bottle is a black, heavy ‘thing’ just waiting to be placed on a shelf in your bathroom, knowing it will never leave again. Such a beauty!
RL Woman Intense definitely deserves a place in my collection.
