from La La Land to the nightmare side. "
Batsheva from Regime des Fleurs smells of a subtly smoky blackberry and violet incense, something you might burn to summon either spectral shades from the underworld or second-ranking seraphim. It’s a strange, amorphous mixture of the undefined: it’s neither sweet nor dry, aquatic nor earthy, fruity-resinous nor herbal fresh, edgy leather metal lord nor cottagecore sweetheart–and yet it somehow sits at the intersection of all of these things. I love Bathsheva's early collections with their frills and ruffles and ditzy, saccharine prints, and this scent is a through the looking glass version of that twee weirdness, a dark, twisted fantasy that never quite made it from La La Land to the nightmare side. "Liminal" is a word that gets thrown around a lot these days, but this fragrance really does feel betwixt and between, grounded and ethereal-- a space of utter unbelonging.

The Hall of Souls
Strange things were happening in the world...
Masses of dead fish were washed ashore off the coast of Haiti...
In Nicaragua, a river turned blood red...
and in a desert, a cold snap occurred.
People believed in the impending apocalypse...
A stranger tells the pregnant Abby
the story of the seventh sign...
'There will be a child born without a soul,
because GUF, the Hall of Souls, is empty.'
Abby suspected that it was about her child...
'Only the martyr's death of a pure soul
could fill GUF again,
thus preventing the downfall of humanity'...

When I test a fragrance, I sometimes have an image in mind, sometimes a story.
Here, both happened.
I had this delicate, misty scent resting on me,
like a still lake,
full of melancholy,
and yet there were speckles of life within it.
Suddenly, a drawer opened in my mind,
and the memory of the film 'The Seventh Sign' was there.
Hence the brief summary of the film in my review.
Of course, without revealing the ending.

I really liked the idea of a filled hall with souls,
represented by small, shimmering birds,
back then.

It began with the image of this misty lake,
still...
monotonous...
Only the silvery light of the moon
reflects in the pale gray.
A non-sacred soft incense,
accompanied by watery water lilies.
Cardamom harmoniously joins in,
seems to absorb the last remnants of life
with its breath.
It is precisely placed,
more noticeable when exhaling than inhaling,
hence this association.
Up to this point, a rather melancholic scent for me.

As this child is gifted its soul,
a gentle shimmer of light covers the lake,
and one glimpses the hall
where the souls dwell.
First one, then two...
more and more lilac pale blue wingbeats
testify to new life,
and make the fragrance shine.
'The shore at the edge of the lake has the color
of patchouli-warm earth,
first violet leaves peek through the brown.
In the background, water lilies bloom in their delicate beauty,
and the cardamom has moderated into a fine tea note,
a give and take...
Death and new life.

GUF, the Hall of Souls, is empty
Veil of mist over the lake
Cardamom breath absorbs life
Lilac pale blue wingbeats
Souls for new life.

Soft grasses gently sway in the wind,
a calm scene under cedars....

Both the fragrance and the film are worth testing/watching.
And those who know the film may have to hold back a tear or two while testing this fragrance.

Thank you so much for allowing me to test it.

In another life…
I do not know you. You just walked past me. A brief eye contact. A shy smile. A delicate touch of our hands. Accidental and unintentional. But you feel so familiar and so close to me. I to you as well. I could see it in your gaze. Where do I know you from? I had never seen you before, but I feel that we once belonged together. Was it perhaps another life in a long-gone time? I recognize you again. Every movement of yours is familiar to me. Your gaze as you look at me. Your beautiful smile. I have seen it before. A very, very long time ago in a long-gone life. Could it be? I see you and me as if through a rosy veil as we swim through a pond in the damp fog of the morning. I see you diving between the water lilies. I feel you swimming around me. I hear you laugh and see you stepping out of the water, swallowed by the damp, misty fog. In a past life, you were once my companion. I can feel it! We lay on damp, warm earth. Surrounded by rustling patchouli and vetiver grasses. The air around us was earthy and gently smoky. I have these images in my head. So many foggy memories!

I see you as you look into my eyes. I feel your hands as they gently stroke my neck and my face. Tender, soft, and loving! I can still feel it as you took my hand and placed it on your belly. And I could feel it, the second little heartbeat next to yours. You were once everything to me! Woman, partner, confidante, and the mother of my children. So many images in my head like through a rosy veil. I see you and me at our wedding. Smell the delicate, soft, ethereal incense around us and the small bouquet of violets in your hands. Powdery, smoky, pale, and finely chiseled. Like a faded memory from another time. A tender kiss. You were once my..!

I do not know you. Not yet! You just walked past me. A brief eye contact, a gentle smile, an accidental touch. And your scent that felt so infinitely familiar to me. Physical, delicate, and full of old, familiar love. I do not know if all this really happened, what I saw vaguely before my mind's eye. In the fateful moment when I met you. In the seconds that felt like an eternity. As long as a felt, past life. But I know one thing for sure. I want to experience everything just like that with you again. If I should find you again among all the many people. Again and again. Only with you. Until you should appear to me again in a new life!

Conclusion
Batsheva by Régime des Fleurs was created by perfumer Alia Raza and American fashion designer Batsheva Hay. Delicate notes of water lilies and rose geraniums merge with smoky nuances of woody cedar and gently smoky vetiver. Warm, earthy patchouli oil and accords of steaming, freshly brewed Lapsang Souchong tea fuse with filigree and softly powdery-leathery violets to create a delicately moist corporeality, ultimately enveloped by the finest, diffuse Somali incense. Batsheva is not really tangible in its aura. Batsheva is subtle, floating, gentle, familiar, damp-warm, quiet, skinny, and very tender. Batsheva is meant to symbolize an incarnation. The incarnation of a celestial spirit, the incarnation of beauty, or the incarnation of love. Perhaps a love long past? But no matter what incarnation Batsheva may take on and in what form it appears.
It will be something beautiful… for sure!

My dear friends and readers,
this will be my last review before the holidays. At least until Christmas! Despite all the adverse circumstances that are currently prevailing or perhaps because of them, I wish you peaceful, calm, and harmonious Christmas and reflective holidays. Be loving, grateful, and good to one another…!
With much love in my heart.

Delicate smoke rises
In mystical light
Dancing through dry flowers
Where cedars sway

She wears a delicate floral perfume or just deodorant. He wears a classic old-school men's scent. Their lips touch in the tea room.

A tea blend enriched with flowers and a hint of wood. Even though the smokiness is very subtle, it doesn't quite fit here.

Beautiful yes, extraordinary no. A rather subtle mix of delicate flowers, a hint of tea, and gentle green notes. Smoke is subdued.

Very lively, almost a bit gruff, then a rose geranium-like warmth with a dark herbal-spicy note. Not my cup of Lapsang Souchong.
