Make scent like this, I smell like this, but... Accident?
Note: Only read if unpleasant associations are not shunned!

Rituals is a brand that sometimes catches me more, sometimes less. Especially the concept with the different collections, which (almost) always include a perfume, lures me into the realms of the Dutch cosmetics house from time to time.

This was also the case with this fragrance: tempted by the impressive name of the collection "The Legend of the Dragon" and its mascot, the Auspicious Dragon, I sniffed the perfume for the first time and realized: Not bad at all! Somehow it has something... so I packed it up straight away so that I could test it extensively over the next few days.

After overcoming some sensory highs and lows in the perception of the fragrance, here is my rating to the best of my knowledge and belief.

General:
The "Auspicious Dragon" seems very changeable to me and always presents different facets of the auspicious dragon. The top note smells intensely sweet one day, then totally licoricey the next and occasionally just like incense. Why is that? I have no idea. Fortunately, I can say at this point: the fragrance always develops into a similar result: woody-spicy sweetness that is always wrapped in a cloak of incense, plum, jasmine and tonka bean.

The notes:
The top note is composed of incense, combined with a licorice nuance that is sometimes stronger and sometimes weaker. Plum and cedar, combined with jasmine and incense, take center stage after the top note. The liquorice note is (fortunately) only slightly recognizable here, while the jasmine takes over its role. The drydown is quite linear and does not differ significantly from the heart of the dragon.

Longevity and sillage:
The top note lasts maybe 5-10 minutes. After it has faded, you can enjoy the aura of the Dutch dragon for up to 4 hours, until it becomes very skin-deep and tired of flying.

The bottle:
Beautiful purple, angular shape, solid glass and a solid lid. The atomizer is not linear, but pressurized. One side is labeled with the name of the fragrance and on the other side there is an illustration of the stylish dragon.

One question remains - why did I choose this title?

Here's the thing: the very first time I had the pleasure of catching a glimpse of the warm dragon's wings - dipped in tonka - it smelled to me directly of a delicious plum, served on a solid base of cedar, tonka and jasmine. This association has since faded, and the fragrance has changed for me in a direction strongly dominated by incense and licorice.

Why is that? The statements about this fragrance on Parfumo have unfortunately opened my eyes.

While I would give it a 10 out of 10 after my first experience with the fragrance, I can now only give it a 7 out of 10. The licorice association has ruined the top and heart notes for me to such an extent that I occasionally catch myself thinking that I'd better spray my clothes and let them air out before I get dressed and ready. The combination of both experiences has led me to give it a final rating of 8.5.

For a while, I didn't even like the scent at all because of the licorice, which is why I avoided it for a long time so that I can now unpack it again and write a fair review. Since, in my opinion, licorice should have nothing to do with perfume, the association I have now gained is unfortunately a thorn in my side and always reminds me that you don't always want to know what others think ;)

Cedar & Incense
I sample this at Ritual's store in Ireland. It was a rainy day, I was looking for a souvenir to bring home, and I stumbled onto their new collection.

In my notes which is loosely based on vibes as opposed of notes, I wrote : "lighting a stick of incense and smelling your boyfriends cologne on a shirt you stole from him before leaving."

It's smooth and woody, it lingers on you.

Rituals can do that much better!
Rituals has again and again the one or other fragrance in its ranks, which I like quite well.
After the Limited Edition of Rituals Serendipity for Men I was very positive, because the fragrance has appealed to me very much.

I express right at the beginning that this limited edition has met less my taste.

Basically, I feel tonka as a very pleasant fragrance, but here the whole thing is a bit too sweet for me. The prominent jasmine note contributes here certainly their remaining.
Incense I also perceive in parts, but I find the combination is not successful and in total, the DNA seems to me neither finely balanced nor coherent.
For me, the whole unfortunately tends in the direction of a headache candidate.
On me, the fragrance seems little loveless, sweet, adulterated and clearly too feminine for a designated unisex fragrance.
Cedar wood I personally do not perceive at all.

In terms of longevity and silage Rituals certainly does not represent the spearhead of the fragrance industry, quite the opposite. Although there are isolated fragrances that bring quite potency with them, but this is not one of them in my opinion.
After 3-4 hours, the scent flattens enormously and is partly no longer perceptible.
Since the fragrance does not appeal to me, this fact does not bother me, for girlfriends and friends of this edition should be there certainly an essential point.
