Cultivated Oud-Leather Combination

Christmas Eve was a proper occasion to finally wear 51 pour Homme as an EdP. It’s just too precious for the office and unfortunately a bit inappropriate in summer.

No, this is definitely a candidate for special situations and suitable climatic conditions, the latter being more likely found in autumn or winter. Some might wickedly claim that it’s well-suited for Halloween, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves ;-)

Admittedly, the opening of 51 pour Homme is quite animalistic-stable-like. Despite the usual Roja Dove citrus top note, which somewhat tempers the start, this could be an almost insurmountable hurdle for many. Those who are brave and endure will experience minute by minute how the creation softens, leaving only a slightly rough leather note from the stable-like opening, which blends with the other opulent ingredients into a spicy-oriental fragrance.

The citrus notes remain quite perceptible for a long time and give the whole composition a sprightliness that is not often encountered in conjunction with oud and leather.

What remains in the end until the dry down is more of a warm leather note with a timid oud undertone, embedded in an oriental-tinged woody to spicy mix including a slightly bitter twist.

Nevertheless, shortly after spraying, I wondered if I had really made a good choice to visit my father for dinner, as the stable note would definitely catch his attention and he wouldn’t be able to hold back a comment. However, everything turned out positively, which may also be due to the fact that the projection, in my opinion, was relatively subdued. Accordingly, he appreciated 51 pour Homme on my wrist as a quite pleasant and noble scent.

Regardless, the Eau de Parfum is rightly rated so highly in general assessments. Of course, a comparison with the perfume version would be quite welcome, as it not only achieves a higher score here but is even classified as spicy-leathery. That’s intriguing!

A Gentleman to Dream Of

Yes, Roja is always a little challenge for me, and I find it exciting to test this brand again! It's often not quite easy, as the scents are very complex and quite intense. I have already embraced many of them in my heart, while some I have removed from my mind because they were simply too overwhelming! Recently, it was time for the 51 p.H. There are both the EdP and the perfume version available. I tested both and find them very similar, but somehow I find this one a bit finer and more suitable for me.

As soon as it is sprayed on, you can tell what you are dealing with. A very noble and interesting elixir that you can't help but keep sniffing. A blend of bright, slightly sour, and also sweet fruits mingle with the finest floral notes sprinkled with a hint of strong spices. The lavender occasionally stands out slightly and then retreats again. Oud, in my opinion, is very restrained here and very pleasant. The finest leather becomes more apparent as time goes on, quite strong and dark but also very pleasant and not too dark.

I see a large glass in front of me, filled with a very expensive cognac, me half reclining on an ottoman made of medium brown leather standing on a creaking wooden floor, a pipe in hand filled with vanilla tobacco, and jazz music playing in the background. It has a flair from the 40s-50s. An incredibly wonderful and fine scent that invites me to dream. I believe I wouldn't wear this outside, but rather at home when I want to relax and take a little time travel. It's actually a men's fragrance, but I think women can wear it well too if they like it a bit stronger and spiced.

Longevity and sillage are typically superb for Roja; I can perceive the scent on me for over 10 hours, with the first 3-5 hours being quite strong before it pulls back a bit. In my opinion, it's a scent that can be worn throughout the year; perhaps it will come across a bit differently on cooler days, which I still need to test, as I only know it on quite warm days. I will savor my sample carefully, as unfortunately, the scent is no longer available in the EdP version.

I call shot gun in your car

It doesn't happen very often that one changes their signature scent. At least not for me. So far, it has always been fragrances that do something to me. Beyond the pyramid and the olfactory. Beyond known scales. They make my inner resonance body vibrate. A wonderful form of self-induced external influence.

So, when I am to describe 51 pour homme EDP, I am not the analytical chemist, nor a connoisseur of the field who can characterize and classify the naturalness of bergamot. Fragrances are - despite their absolutely identical composition in the bottle - something very subjective when experienced.

Upon spraying the EDP, I am always overcome by a deep calm. An inexplicable feeling of lightness. I have only experienced something similar with Spice and Wood. I, the fan of orientals. A bit like arriving after a long journey. Grateful for the experiences I have had and the reward found in the simple being of the moment. Indeed, signature. Essence of the self.

Olfactorily, the 51 EDP starts with a fresh, almost fruity note, which never tips into a specific direction or becomes explicitly sweet or identifiable with a fruit that one could attribute this experience to. Very quickly, base accords come in that suggest subtle leather and a sensual, swirling oud. Yes, the pyramid should rather be read as what will gradually say goodbye to notes over the next 12 hours. For the appearance is a complete one. The entire pyramid says "Hello" and has come to stay.
Profile: fresh-spicy-sensual.

In all of this, there is an incredibly calm yet focused essence. Distinguised and yet completely unpretentious. A pool of possibilities. Eager to see what you want to experience. Just as multifaceted as you are individually. A magnifying glass for the moments that matter.
