TL;DR:
Elysium Noir is a deeply disappointing, synthetic fragrance that is reminiscent of cheap aftershaves and quickly loses sillage.
First the few positive points:
Elysium Noir is indeed a "dark" and masculine smelling fragrance that would be suitable for the broad, ignorant masses. However, those who appreciate the complex and unique compositions of Roja Dove will unfortunately encounter an unpleasant, dull synthetic that irritates the brain. Unfortunately, there is nothing here of the fine and noble ingredients for which Roja is known.
Elysium Noir opens with a strong, synthetic note that is immediately reminiscent of cheap aftershave from the drugstore. The fragrance has nothing in common with its predecessor
Elysium pour Homme Eau de Parfum. Despite the pungent opening,
Elysium Noir quickly loses its sillage and closes in on the skin. In addition to the synthetic note, which, as other users have noted, is reminiscent of fragrances such as
Invictus Eau de Toilette, a light leather note can be detected.
Even after an hour,
Elysium Noir is still synthetic and not particularly spectacular. At this point, however, it actually seems a little more rounded and even a little more pleasant, perhaps because the nose has become accustomed to it. The rose note pokes through again and again very slightly until the fragrance is barely perceptible on the skin after about an hour and a half.
It is completely understandable that we, as paying customers, feel deeply stultified and disappointed by this release. To put it mildly, with
Elysium Noir we are paying an above-average price for an indescribably below-average fragrance.
Even though the last three fragrances by the new perfumer have left a lot of room for improvement, I don't want to criticize him any further, but rather shed light on another side. It takes a lot of courage to follow in the footsteps of someone like Roja Dove and it is certainly not easy to imitate his unique style. I like to think that Roja Dove sees something we don't yet see and that we can expect more beautiful fragrances soon.
Without wanting to further justify this weak release, I hope that
Elysium Noir is merely a small false start at the beginning of the new perfumer's career. All in all, this fragrance under the good name of Roja Dove is shocking and not worth a bottling or a full bottle. Let's hope it gets better in the future - after all, hope dies last!
