Herb-sweet seducer!
Mmmmh, … uuuh, oooh! What is this? Never smelled anything like it, such a mixture - this scent is really strong! … and it makes you strong, and attractive, and beautiful … Huh? No, no, we don’t want to go that far ;-) But let’s start from the beginning:

As a fan of citrus scents, I had to come across this Al Basel eventually. And yes, it starts with a fruity-fresh lemon, but is immediately finely complemented by sage, which adds a bitter touch - a great team. These two make up about 60-70% of the fragrance, supported by a leathery-smoky base, along with a hint of gourmand Oriental notes from cinnamon and praline. Absolutely fantastic, if only I weren’t so sensitive to smoke. Because there is quite a bit of "wickedness" coming through, which feels more smoky than leathery. But maybe that’s exactly what makes this H & S gem so attractive?!

While all the aforementioned notes initially present themselves loudly but quite distinctly and allow for individual sniffing, they blend into an extraordinary and wonderfully balanced melange after about half an hour, which is very appealing - also driven by the cardamom, which now comes through a bit more. Although one might consider this scent in the first hour to be a slightly intrusive-sweet club fragrance, carried by its smoky leather, making it masculine. But ... why not? Because somehow this Al Basel has a bit of everything and should therefore appeal to many:

It is sweet, but not too sweet, and also fruity and fresh. It is masculine, yet not exaggerated, and has a slightly oriental touch, almost sensual due to this nuance. Moreover, after about an hour, it becomes more agreeable as everything settles and the elixir becomes increasingly milder. The initial sweetness fades and the smoky leather competes less for attention, while the soft amber becomes more noticeable. In the further drydown, this Swiss Arabian remains as expressive as it is linear and (on a shirt) lasts up to 10 hours with good projection. In a statement, I would describe it as:

A valuable citrus-herb/sweet-oriental-smoky/masculine scent, with strong H&S, particularly suitable for going out.

Conclusion: Al Basel is a (budget-friendly) quality fragrance and should have many more followers if it were only better known. And even though its smoky note isn’t entirely to my liking, I can only highly recommend this finely tuned and distinctive scent, which skillfully combines so much. Because its attractive mixture is truly unusual and is suitable for both the party-goer and the gentleman, as

herb-sweet seducer!

Herb-fresh lemon in a noble leather coat
It seems I am the first (and hopefully not the last) to comment in detail on this great fragrance in the form of an EdP. Previously, I had not owned or tried any fragrance from Swiss Arabian. Why it is called Al Basel, I can only speculate. The manufacturer apparently makes no secret of its origin (Swiss Arabian) and may dedicate the fragrance to its hometown Basel. But well, that’s not so important.

I would like to start with the appearance, the bottle. The shape is kept simple, radiating in a rich green that comes across as very friendly. The Arabic characters give the appearance a typically oriental flair and, in my opinion, match the green very well.

Now to the essential part. The fragrance brings a fresh-herb lemon in the top note. Not the toilet stone note that you know from some citrus fragrances. No, the sage makes it come across very pleasantly. It doesn't take long before spicier notes join in, attributed to the cinnamon and cardamom. This steers the fragrance increasingly into a more elegant direction without losing the pleasantly slightly herbaceous lemon-sage composition. Here - I think - the Orient also crystallizes out.

This tasty alliance enchants the wearer for about two hours until the woody amber-leather faction intervenes in the proceedings. The duo gives the whole thing an even more noble character. This delicious accord of herb-spicy leather seems to linger on the skin forever from then on. The longevity and sillage are damn good. After 9 hours, my surroundings can still perceive it. This is not uncommon for fragrances from the Orient.

To top it all off, 100ml of this delicacy is available for about €20 at Notino. A mega price-performance ratio! So a blind purchase doesn’t hurt (I dared to do it too). All in all, a very successful fragrance for the whole year.

The most beautiful of all
I had been keeping an eye on Al Basel for a long time, and now I finally got to do a blind swap, and I must say that my expectations were met, if not even exceeded. In this fragrance category, there are many scents, starting with Black XS by Paco, I count Arabi Cana among them, and from the same house, also Attar Al Ghutra, as well as some CPOs of Arabic origin.

Where Black XS essentially contains only sweet freshness, Al Basel adds a bit of smokiness, along with woody notes from amber, which give the fragrance its depth, while still remaining on the fresh-sweet side.

The longevity is decent, and I think the sillage is also quite impressive, and in conclusion, I can only say that I find Al Basel to be the most wearable of all mentioned!

Knock Knock
Since I am always impressed by the scents from Swiss Arabian, I decided to get this one as well. The price-performance ratio is outstanding once again. In the top note, the fragrance starts with a medium freshness, somewhat fruity and not at all like what comes next. However, the heaviness of the scent can already be sensed. Somehow, it reminds me of a black soda (C-C). After about fifteen minutes, a sultry sweetness sets in. It becomes darker and almost sticky. It keeps knocking with its strong sillage for several hours.

I also tested it in the club, and it is clearly noticeable there as well. After about 4 hours, it becomes less dominant, calming down a bit and not being so rebellious anymore. But it is still very present and remains on the skin for several hours afterwards. When applying, one should be a bit cautious. Overall, the fragrance feels very rounded, and the individual stages where it changes are well perceptible. It’s not an everyday scent, but absolutely suitable for the club or, when applied less, for a meeting with friends. The sweetness will definitely appeal to the younger generation, but it is also absolutely wearable for a more sophisticated crowd, just not in a suit, but with a T-shirt and jeans ;-).

The Color is the Program
The scent has been with me for almost 10 years now... and to be honest, the bottle is still 99% full, I didn't like it from day one.
So it has been stored dark and cool in my collection for the last few years... I would have gladly given it away.
Today I felt like testing some fragrances that I haven't described yet.
That's when Al Basel came back to my mind.
After spraying, the sage is immediately present... accompanied by a fresh-citrusy note, which wouldn't be bad at all if there wasn't also a sweet undertone.
This sweetness doesn't fit into this concept at all, now I remember why I didn't warm up to this scent back then.
So, after an hour not much has changed... where are all the amazing notes?
Cinnamon, praline that comes through so well in Shaghaf Oud.
I would like to report something better, but the scent is still a disappointment today, Swiss Arabian can do much much better.
Al Basel... I will now store you away properly and in 10 years we will try again together.....

Synthetic lemon and sage give this a toilet cleaner vibe to begin with....dry down is a dark spicy chocolate. Decent with good longevity.

This could just as well be a fairly successful designer scent aimed at a younger masculine audience: citrus, then sweet.

Citrusy-fruity-spicy-leathery potion from the Emirates.
It has secured its spot in my top 10.

- one of the most beautiful lemon sage openings I've ever experienced and it seems to last forever. The base becomes wonderfully woody and warm.

First a herbal-bitter citrus freshness, then it becomes sweeter and a bit smokier, without exciting me. It's okay.

I first thought: no, summer citrus! But then the transformation hit: smoke, leather, cardamom. Familiar accord from Baccarat Rouge. Amazing scent!

A citrusy base that lasts quite a while is nicely spiced. In the dry down, black amber + leather dominate. An oriental-masculine scent without oud.

Starts citrusy with sage and cardamom.
Then turns into a great oriental.
Longevity & Sillage are top! Black XS for adults.

For someone who usually doesn't like citrus scents, this one is really nice. With sweetness and somehow smoky. I like it. Perfect for summer.

Enormous longevity and sillage. Can feel a bit overwhelming when over-applied. Smells gourmand-fruity-leathery-heavy.
