Modern Arabia
Enigma of Taif is rich, oriental and unmistakably Middle Eastern, yet refined enough to feel like modern niche perfumery.
For me, it works best on cooler days and evenings, when I crave something warmer and richer, yet still spacious, without entering heavy oud territory.

The opening is immediately expressive, with saffron, spices and a plummy sweetness surrounding the rose.
It has weight from the first spray, but I was surprised by the quality – nothing feels flat or harsh, as the price might suggest.

In the heart, a modern, luscious rose takes centre stage – rich rather than heavy, surrounded by warm amber, saffron and darker woody tones.
This isn't a delicate European rose; it has the richness and intensity of oriental perfumery, but presented in a surprisingly modern and spacious way.
The whole composition feels polished and well-controlled, never overloaded with 2-3 sprays.

The drydown becomes warmer, smoother and more ambery, while the rose gradually melts into woods and sweetness.
It remains quite dense, but has enough air and polish to stay elegant rather than simply becoming heavy.

Performance is strong, as you'd expect from this style, so moderate dosing makes sense.

At times, it enters territory already occupied by fragrances like Arabesque or Imperial Wood, which can make its place in a larger collection less obvious.
However, it makes considerably more sense if you enjoy rose presented in a more modern, spacious way.

Enigma of Taif is genuinely excellent perfumery that can confidently compete in the niche rose category while punching far above its price.
It smells like oriental luxury with a modern twist.

First Sniff: Sweeter Variant of Art of Arabia III
I immediately thought of Art of Arabia III when I first smelled this; I find the two very similar.

However, as the top note fades and especially in the dry down, the differences become clear.

It becomes significantly sweeter, more oriental, and for my nose, also more feminine. It also develops a woody character over time.
Really beautiful scent, yet a DNA/fragrance family that one is already familiar with.

Sweeter than expected, the heart notes never fade, they just gain a woody character. For me, there is too much going on. High quality though.

Modern Arabia.
Rose, saffron and warm amber with impressive polish—proper Arabic richness without smelling old-fashioned.

Absolutely revolting synthetic fake amber and rrambroxan, no rose to be found, much less taif. A disgrace.

A dark rose, super balanced and not too rosy, not soapy - perfectly tuned!

this saffron-rose combo has been played out by all of us x times in dozens of variations. here, though, it’s very soft + well-balanced.
