Gasoline wolf in vanilla-peach sheep's clothing
I love well-blended gourmands and candy scents and I enjoyed some others from The House of Oud, so trying Bonbon Pop was a no-brainer for me. But just like Wabisabi from the same release, it doesn't meet my expectations.
First to the good parts. The blend of white peach, coconut, brown sugar and a very vanillic amber give me a lovely peaches and cream vibe. A bit like a warm pie or cobbler that was baked with peaches and topped with a scoop of melting vanilla ice cream or something in that vein. The patchouli leans into dark chocolate territory, but has enough earthiness in it to balance the sweetness. At times the scent makes me think of unlit pipe tobacco.
And now to the bad parts that really ruin this for me: There is so much sharp scratchiness in the background! I can't attribute it to a specific note. It reminds me of gasoline. And it plays hide and seek. At some moments I think "This is just a slight sharpness, the scent is still pretty nice", and in the next moment I hate it.
It gets especially gruesome when you try to scrub the fragrance off in the shower. The sweet notes are easily removed, but the sharpness sticks to the skin like nobody's business.
Something about this reminds me of a worse version of Kayali Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli. That one has a hint of sharpness that is kept at bay by the other notes, this one is overwhelming and harsh.
I think perfume houses nowadays often add these sharp base notes to increase performance, but I'd rather have a weaker, more pleasant scent than this mess.
