Underwhelming

I must be missing something. This fragrance is missing both structure and quality. It's like one of those body mists you'd find in the checkout queue of Marshall's, only placed in a beautiful Valentino bottle. Born In Roma Ivory is a cloudy, vague, semisweet scent that they are calling marshmallow. Emphasis on the word "scent" as I cannot justify calling this a perfume.

I am not surprised at all to see that there is no perfumer listed, as it doesn't feel like like it was crafted by one. If there were ever a Valentino fragrance created for babies and young children like Bvlgari and Tous has done in the past, this would be it.

Clearly a trendy cash grab. Prestige brands really need to escape these fads and get back to being creative. For those of us who were wearing Valentino in 2012 pre-L'Oréal Luxe, can relate when I say it is sad that this is what it has come to. Valentino used to be a very classy house, but it is clear the brand has lost its identity.

There was a time where limited edition flankers were exciting and something to look forward to.

A lighter, creamy DBIR

Well I really didn’t have any expectations with this one, but I think ill be passing on it. It’s definitely a nice scent. I don’t think it’s anything special.

Ivory is a lighter, creamy version of the original DBIR with orange blossom with a light musk. I don’t get any marshmallow personally. It’s nice just plain. Definitely the spring or summer evenings version of Donna, if this is what you’re looking for.

Kipper fabric softener

So after Prada's Paradoxe, where Paradoxe was literally torn to shreds, I figured it could hardly be worse, but Valentino shows special Rafinnese here, which shows the irrelevance, of new fragrances.

In itself, the bottle is of course quite something. Beautiful color, feminine and soft, meet a heavy, attractive bottle that is also impressive. That's the only thing I like here, although I prefer darker colors.

For me, the contents are a floral fabric softener from the stoop zone at the discount store. Pungent orange blossom meets too much shallow fabric softener touch, which is trumped by a much too pale mliché note that keeps trying to bring in some purity and creaminess. But it doesn't. Marshmallow is also just a faint aftertaste that quickly loses its flavor, like a piece of chewing gum that, after a few chews, releases its flavor as if it had never been there. Some vanilla & tonka in the finish. That unmistakable fabric softener touch is always there. With an extra splash of chemistry, of course, which makes me wrinkle my nose.

I'm also not convinced by the durability and sillage. Much too quiet, much too restrained. There should be a lot more oomph behind it.

Orange blossom meets marshmallow

Wow, Valentino has finally come up with something brilliant again. A fragrance that is different and stands out creamy sweet and not as innocent as it looks. It is very intense and also long-lasting. The orange blossom together with the marshmallow is a dream and I am in love. I can't find a fragrance that I can compare it to or that it reminds me of.
