Too much of a (mostly) good thing
Fleur Burlesque starts with a very nice blend of white florals but becomes more screechy and cloying as it wears on and ultimately overstays its welcome. The gardenia and jasmine are both more approximated than represented. Still, on initial application, I enjoy both renditions. There is the sparkling character of jasmine, and some of its greenness, but none of the indoles or the dark velvety texture of its heart notes. The gardenia note has the right sweetness and creaminess, but the damp earthy tone that makes this flower smell so unique is missing completely. There is a fruitiness too, but it's not the milky peach of gardenia flower. The fruitiness is sharper and more citric. These two floral notes are made to fit together very nicely. The effect is tropical, loud, and decidedly vintage. I am taken less to the Bell Epoque and more to the 1980's. Amaretto sours, dramatic silhouettes, and hairspray smell. I like all of this quite a bit, for a good hour or two. Then the acidic parts take over, a little too harshly so for my nose, especially since Fleur Burlesque is still projecting fiercely at that point. Many hours later, we get a strong but uninspired base of dusty sweetness: a little vanillic, only vaguely woody, not particularly ambered. But even now there is something aggressive to the creation. It smells more of "performance" than of perfume. For lovers of unapologetic florals that sacrifice a little naturalism for a lot of potency, this is worth sampling.

Jasmin-gardenia duet
If I was less a fanatic for white florals, I would have nominated Fleur Burlesque for the dullest note list ever. But I am not, so I will not. That would not be fair either. The note list may be accurate, but this perfume is anything but dull.

It starts with a classic opening of white florals. Lush, feminine and pretty loud, but not sharp or overly dramatic. There is a good dose of jasmin in here at first. The jasmin is relatively harmless, though, and granny-vibes are carefully avoided. Gardenia is the more persistent one. Pretty soon the sweet and ambery notes come through, but the scent does not thicken into dense cream or thick powder. It remains fluffy and pillowy with a slight juicy-sweet undertone.

Classic formula, modern interpretation. Nice.

A floral scent… that I like??
Hey hey you scent enthusiasts, a new evening, a new comment. You know the drill. But what am I describing today? Hmmm… it’s summer, so it’s time for me to enhance my plant knowledge, which is why I tried out a floral scent. I may not be much wiser afterwards, but at least I liked the fragrance :D

Yes, you read that right. I found a floral scent quite lovely, even though I usually find most floral fragrances either stuffy or cloying. However, I must say that I do like many floral scents (but to be clear, not on myself, but on the… supposedly… prettier sex, so on you women,… he he), when they are well-made and don’t include heavy, cloying notes like Ylang-Ylang or orchids or such. I find lighter or at least not stuffy floral scents quite nice, as they also have a lovely, feminine aura.

Like this scent here, Fleur Burlesque by Vilhelm Parfumerie, which I find quite successful.

The scent:
I smell flowers and blossoms, and due to the leeeeightly stuffy (but not bad, rather still pleasant) note, I’m guessing gardenias, and I hope I’m right. However, there seems to be a lot of jasmine as well, which radiates a nice sweetness, along with general floral notes that I can’t identify further.
Everything smells a bit heavy, but not necessarily cloying, and all of this is only briefly present in the top note. Because quickly the scent becomes creamier, and thus really beautiful! Light, herb-bitter plant notes come in, which also smell good and remind one of spring, while the bitter notes quickly fade away, so that the scent returns to a "normal"-floral character with a slightly sweet aura.
Later, the scent still smells of gardenias and other general floral notes. Jasmine seems to take a backseat, especially since the sweetness of the fragrance now increasingly comes from the amber.
Towards the base, the floral notes become a bit looser, but the scent also becomes noticeably woodier, yet it still smells very nice, even if it no longer has the femininity it had at the beginning. Much later (after about six hours), the scent becomes rather unremarkable, as all the sweetness is gone and you only perceive slightly sour flowers, along with a very light stuffiness. Now would be the time to reapply the fragrance. All in all, a very successful scent that mostly smells very nice.

The sillage and longevity:
The projection is good, but significantly stronger at first than later on. Nevertheless, you will be able to smell the fragrance without having to get too close. The longevity is actually good, as the scent lasts over eight hours, but I found that after six hours, it started to smell a bit unremarkable and quite weak.

The bottle
The bottle is cylindrical and flat. The glass is wavy and thus reminiscent of beautiful, older bottles. On the front, there is a small cutout where you can see a yellow label with the fragrance name. The cap is also yellow and cylindrical. An interesting and beautiful bottle, which might seem a bit unusual to handle at first.

Yes, as I mentioned at the beginning, I found this scent very beautiful. The floral notes reminded me of wonderful flower fields on a lovely spring or summer day, with colorful flowers, great buzzing winged insects (some of which, like wasps, still instill a fair amount of fear in some :D) and everything just has a lovely, cozy atmosphere. So beautiful summer days,… but quite different from the sunny days that occasionally appear as heatwaves and are so hot that even my cat has absolutely no desire to do anything. And I can understand him well, as on those days with over 30 degrees, I also prefer not to move at all :D

The only real advantage of these excessively hot days is the short shorts of the girls, but it was clear that I would say that, you know me. If I ever have a girlfriend, I might share other things here, but that’s just a guess, he he, until then you’ll have to endure my silly remarks :))

But back to the scent! It is beautiful and definitely worth a try. Make sure to find this fragrance somewhere (I found it at Albrecht in Frankfurt, for example), and spray it on yourself. If I’m saying here that I found a floral scent quite lovely, then you can be sure that the fragrance must indeed be great, as I’m usually hard to convince by floral scents :D

So then, my dear ones, until next time. Have a lovely evening in the meantime :)

When MissVenus lets her assets sway and the men get a bulge... A simple recipe for pure sensuality. The same goes for the scent.

Perfect evening companion to the cabaret of the 1920s. “And the gray in gray suddenly turns blue.” Grand orchestra and lots of diva gold.

Fascinating scent development over many hours. There must be many more notes in it than stated. A work of art. Must have!

Jasmine, with its olfactory titty-twister, nearly puts everything into a scent coma. Only the strongest make it to the end of the show.

Waxy gardenia & a bit of jasmine, with citrusy-salty sandalwood. A bit overwhelming, the scent threatens to take off, but settles nicely.

Me and floral, creamy? Yes, it's just great, like a luxurious face cream. Lasts forever. Maybe I'll buy it soon :-) Nose on my arm.
