Xerjoff's "Join the Club" fragrances are a series of fragrances designed to reproduce specific clubs or places with different themes. With Shunkoin comes a fragrance that is supposed to reflect the atmosphere of the Japanese Shunkoin temple.
This temple stands for spirituality and Zen. This is also connected with the worship of nature, calmness, meditation, harmony and... of course, how could it be any other way... Tea ceremonies, which admittedly attracted my attention the most :D
Since Japanese people prefer to achieve perfection in everything they do, this also applies to tea ceremonies. While we (and our) guests would prepare tea "quickly and easily", this would be an absolute horror for the Japanese. You have to follow certain rules during the ritual, both during the preparation of the tea, as well as during the reception of the guests, topics of conversation, the way how to get drunk... and and and... of course it is not as if you would do all this on your own (it is certainly easier then :D), but with guests it is of course a real ceremony and if you have the possibility, you just go to real tea houses and try to relax a little from everyday life, but pay attention to certain rules. Just boil water so fast and pour it on tea leaves, that doesn't work there and you wouldn't even prepare tea for your enemy :D
Be that as it may, all this sounds incredibly interesting and I assume that I could possibly smell tea in this scent... otherwise I am more than disappointed... *sigh*
The fragrance:
Great, I smell coffee!!!!
He he he, no of course not! Whereby I also like the coffee smell quite, that just by the way :D
So I smell a lot of vanilla and powdery notes at the beginning. In addition, I smell incense, which seems to be part of many temples. Which is also a nice and soothing fragrance! In the background there are soft woods, probably sandalwood.
A very light, sweetish chocolaty fragrance seems to emerge, but I suppose it comes from the combination of vanilla, wood and possibly sweetish flowers.
Tea... hmm... honestly, I hardly smell tea. Due to the creamy background scents it might seem like Matcha tea, but something like black or green tea does not smell. Well, it's not so bad, because the fragrance smells really good, even if it might disappoint one or the other... A little later I smell milky-powdery notes in addition to the creamy fragrances.
Much later, from the base, the fragrance smells mainly creamy-sweet. It's best to smell the vanilla and the resinous notes as well as a weak, milky Matcha note (that was clear,... I've been bitching about milk in tea for eons, and then I have to smell milky tea of all things :D But with Matcha it's OK, milk in black tea is the real evil! :DD). Yes, Shunkoin is a successful fragrance!
The Sillage and the shelf life:
The Sillage is quite strong and the scent is already with a few sprayers somewhat room-filling.
The shelf life is quite long, so that it can be smelled from morning to evening. Therefore I don't have to enter any hours here, so it lasts long and long :D
The bottle:
The dark blue bottle is angular and angular and rises trapezoidally in the height. On the front side you can see the "Join the Club" logo, which consists of the initial letters of the lettering and has been worked into the glass. In addition one sees, likewise by hand perceptibly, in gold the smell name. The upper part of the bottle is gold-plated and is attached to the spray head, the golden lid has the shape of almost all Xerjoff fragrances and is reminiscent of the then Red Crown of Lower Egypt.
Soo,... I have to admit, I imagined the scent a little different. Well, actually, I imagined him completely different. I expected resinous notes, yes, such a thing belongs to a temple and such always to it. But I honestly didn't expect vanilla and the milky notes. Well, the milky one is Matcha and with that actually tea, but especially with tea I thought that I would smell conventional tea here, something like black tea, or green tea, or white tea, or red tea, or... oh you know what I mean :D
Now my text may sound a bit negative about the fragrance, so I'd like to mention here that it's not meant that way. Because the fragrance smells really great, especially if you like vanilla and soft, resinous and creamy notes. After all, a fragrance doesn't have to be bad just because you had something completely different on your mind!
Anyway, despite its soft notes, the fragrance has a strong charisma and lasts very long, so that it is an autumn and especially a winter fragrance for me, which you might want to dose less during the day, for example if you don't want to wrap a whole floor in a big scent cloud :D
But it is recommendable in any case, at least to try it
