Rice powder

Shunkoin is probably inspired to a zen buddhist temple and it has a milky powdery rice smell to it that comes also with something almost like the plasticky feeling like in Hypnotic poison edt by Dior. It also has something that makes me think of incense or a church. These olfactive hints make me think of weddings and I've reviewed this perfume in my wedding appropriate perfumes video I am linking here below in case you want to watch it.

I was very shocked at first. I thought that I had made another expensive mistake. At the beginning it is very herbaceous, almost medicinal. After about half an hour a small piece of coconut appears, it smells like grass and unripe coconut. Well, maybe it will change later, I thought to myself. And I was absolutely right, after 2 hours it is a wonderful coconut cream, not too sweet but not too green either. In the course it gets sweeter and sweeter and after about 5 hours it becomes a very sweet coconut vanilla cake. Definitely a gourmand scent but super wearable, it's right on the edge, not too sweet but still sweet enough to be edible. I would rather wear it in spring, fall and winter than in the height of summer, but that's up to you. As always with Xerjoff, durability and sillage are top. I have been looking for a long time for a nice coconut fragrance that lasts a long time and is not too feminine, with the shunkoin I have found it.

Vanilla dream in spring

I went to the Xerjoff store in Barcelona with the idea of looking for a fruity fragrance for spring. It should not be similar to Accento or Erba Pura.
The competent employee showed me a few, but none of them met my expectations. I then saw a fragrance from the JTC Collection that I hadn't seen before, Shunkoin.

It was something completely different to what I was looking for. However, it completely won me over. It starts with a sweet and spicy vanilla, which smells slightly floral, but not too intrusive and rather calm. Over time, the extreme vanilla tends to diminish and it moves towards spring. It is beautifully floral, sweet and slightly spicy. Later, there is also a light green note that rounds off the fragrance perfectly. Once it has been on the skin for a while, it is extremely pleasant, resulting in happy faces and a positive start to the conversation with the other person.

All in all, a very pleasant sweet floral fragrance. For me, a clear must-buy for spring.

Hmm...

I wrote some time ago in a statement that it is more similar to Cuir Beluga than to White on White. Now I have a new bottling here for another test, as I sold my last bottling disappointed. Vanilla and especially coconut are clearly recognizable and give the "Raffaello/butter cookie vibe. But it's actually not very similar to Cuir Beluga. And White on White only because of the coconut note. To be honest, I also think White on White is more successful, as it has a special fragrance progression due to the green fig component. With Shunkoin, I can't recognize a fragrance gradient. It is gourmand with a delicious, sweet vanilla-coconut note. However, now - in contrast to my statement some time ago - I would rather wear it in summer, as it also has an aquatic note. And unfortunately, I think it still has a disruptive note that I somehow associate with plastic.
I wanted to be as enthusiastic as so many others here, but in the end it's "only" okay for me and one bottle to wear from time to time is enough for me. You should definitely test it first.

Why did I never give him a chance before?

I've never really given Shunkoin a chance before.
I have never been tempted to test this fragrance in so many years. Why is that? I don't know.
It was definitely a mistake.

Many people now criticize Xerjoff. They say it's a hype brand, now more designer than anything else, overpriced and whatnot.
I don't think much of these statements or I don't attach any importance to them and I don't care. Everyone has their own opinion and that's fine. I just really like most of the Xerjoff. They suit my taste!

The Shunkoin hit a good nerve of mine again.
I definitely get a good dose of vanilla. However, the vanilla doesn't come across as brutally sweet, but simply beautiful and elegant. Especially because it feels paired with dry woods. There is also a small iris touch to my nose.
Over time, a slight coconut vibe also resonates for me, but for my nose it is totally balanced and not too powerful.

I generally like these kinds of fragrances. It just suits my taste. Guerlain also hits this approximate theme perfectly with their Spiritueuse Double Vanille, Angelique Noire and Cuir Beluga. I like that kind of thing.
Or the discontinued Perry Ellis Oud Black Vanilla Absolute would also be a suitable example.
Also a fairly new fragrance from Birkholz with the Satin Vanilla. I just like these kinds of fragrances.

All in all, Shunkoin is a totally under-the-radar Xerjoff for me. Beautiful thing!
Incidentally, I also found the performance to be great.
The longevity for me is around 9-10 hours. The sillage is also good.
