thumping bass notes
I know some people are bored with the recent abundance of "fruitchoulis," but not me. Particularly in cool weather, I enjoy the way that fruit and patchouli play off against each other. I was particularly interested in this one because raspberries and lychee play such a nice part in several scents I own.
But have you ever played with the balance adjustment on a car or home stereo? Turned to one side or another, it can turn your favorite song into a high-pitched screech or a thumping, unintelligible bass.
When I tried YSL's Elle, I got all of the treble (pink berries, lychee, sweetness). When I tried Elle Intense, I got all of the bass (patchouli, a hint of spice, patchouli, and more patchouli). For the pleasure of my nose, I would set the balance knob at the fruit/patchouli level of YSL's own Belle d'Opium and forget about the unbalanced Elle and Elle Intense.
