Tuxedo, my signature scent

I visited my sister in Switzerland this summer and we made a day trip to Zurich. Unfortunately the weather didn't play along and we ended up in a fragrance shop. My sister wanted to show me her favourite scent. It was Tuxedo. We sprayed a little Tuxedo on our wrist and asked for the price. I was shocked to hear it was 360 CHF. A proud price. But Tuxedo is not a fragrance you can easily forget and after a few months I found it cheaper in a smaller bottle and bought it. It is the most expensive fragrance I have ever bought and owned. The fragrance has a fresh opening with a little spice and a nice floral touch. I like very much that the ingredients are balanced. The fragrance is rather unisex for me. With men I find it elegant and with women very charming. For me the most refined and luxurious YSL fragrance. I can wear it all day, it gives me good mood and self-confidence. I'm quoting my sister's words, "When you wear Tuxedo, you're definitely remembered."

Tuxedo - a fragrance that lives up to its name

Foreword
I must confess that I no longer had great expectations of the Yves Saint Laurent brand. In recent years, in my opinion, the focus has been on flankers and mass-compatible, boring perfumes that have been planned down to the last detail and from which I could no longer derive anything. Until now I didn't know the Private Collection, but that was about to change. Through a lovely perfume I got a sample of velours and yesterday I had the chance to test Cuir and finally Tuxedo. The latter then wandered to a proud price in the shopping bag.

The fragrance, shelf life & Sillage
First of all: Le Vestiare(the wardrobe) Tuxedo lives up to its name as the headline already says. In my opinion his full potential will only be reached with the right outfit, which is certainly due to the prominent violet note at the beginning, which reminds me of a freshly ironed shirt like in Arsen Lupin Dandy. This is neatly underlaid with a britzelnden pepper note. A certain slightly fresh flower note also resonates. Bergamot and coriander, however, I do not perceive. Neither does the listed rose, which with its frequent soapy nature usually doesn't appeal to me either. Over time, the vanilla note also sparkles, giving the whole construct a certain sweetness without the fragrance drifting away. For me, the heart note is a triad of violets, vanilla and pepper, which is the main accompaniment to the perfume. The vanilla is also the base, patchouli & ambergris are rather discreet and give the whole thing no earthy but at best a slightly chocolaty, balsamic touch.
The Sillage is present in the first 2-3 hours, but not overloaded, as it belongs to a suitable occasion in the restaurant, or more sophisticated celebration. After that he gets pretty close, which doesn't have to be bad under the circumstances.
After 6-7 hours the spell is gone with me then.

The presentation
The bottle and the OVP are kept relatively simple. A lightly embossed cardboard, whereby the logo only seems to be glued on. The lid has a good grip due to the ribbing and closes very easily due to the magnet. The atomizer also does its job perfectly and distributes the amount evenly from a distance of 30 cm. Altogether the presentation for me is very solid, but also not outstanding.

Conclusion
Why the Tuxedo made it into my collection?
For me he radiates style and elegance, is never too loud but still present and violets seem to have become very rare in men's fragrances. In addition, the combination closes the gap in my collection which I would have liked to have closed with the Arsen Lupin Dandy. In my opinion it is definitely worth a test.

The gentleman in Paris!

It's Friday evening on a late summer autumn day in Paris. The increasingly fading summer rays are rearing up once more before they take their leave in grand style with the longing for warmth into the melancholy of darkness. The colors of autumn fight for attention, seeking the most beautiful reflection of their colors in the reflections of the puddles. The strains of the week have been put aside and the protagonist walks with sure footing and almost challenging confidence with his companion through the alleys of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. His stylishly tailored suit fits snugly under his single-breasted cashmere wool coat and harmonizes effortlessly with his companion's black sheath dress, whose red bow can only be glimpsed beneath the wrap-around coat. The heel of her pumps clacks in unison with the onset of drizzle and the ever-increasing shrieks of the Seine, which is struggling to drop the autumnal winds. Arriving at their destination, they both sit down at the large picture window of the 18th century designed hotel bar, which promises a breathtaking view of the Louvre. They catch a glimpse of the last golden rays of the sun, which takes up the entire forecourt in a play of colour with the majestic pyramid, breathlessly dwarfing the surrounding buildings. The protagonist orders himself a soft cognac and his companion a Bordeaux and both let the evening end in a dignified atmosphere.

That's more or less how I would imagine an ideal scenario for this fragrance :) To me, Tuxedo exudes an incredibly graceful subtlety that I struggle to explain. The fragrance concept itself is perceptible in many other fragrances but the composition of the individual notes harmonizes so well that it triggers a longing in me for a situation that is otherwise rather rare. The fragrance has a wonderfully spicy-sweet opening that almost wants to be quaffable, but then lets it be. The woody note of patchouli complements the sweet vanilla and powdery, somewhat tart rose very harmoniously. The peppery note, which is still strengthened by the violet leaf, gives the fragrance a little more contrast to the vanilla and the rose.

Basically, I would say that the fragrance can be worn almost at any time of year, but m.E. rather in the colder months comes into its own. He is definitely one of the fragrances that can enhance your own perception, but absolutely must also fit one. I imagine a person over 30 who stands firmly in life and scores with understatement and not with obscenities. To the "Power" and "Beast" - generation, which wants to stand out by obtrusive sillage and even more obtrusive pose, he certainly does not fit.

All in all, one of the best YSL fragrances and certainly one of the fragrances that I like the most. Something problematic I find the durability, which unfortunately does not do justice to this great fragrance.

From sober and elegant to comfortable and sweet

I tried Tuxedo for the first time. Looking at its notes as well as various written reviews, I have created an image of what should be the behaviour of this perfume. After all, and fortunately, my practical impression turned out to be quite different from the theoretical one.
In the opening, the violet leaf is dominant and overlaps with any other note. For almost an hour this violet leaf remained unshaken. Not being particularly passionate about this note, present in this fragrance in such a dictatorial way, I was later surprised by the strong evolution of the fragrance. Between the bottom notes and the drydown, Tuxedo presented me with a delicate accord of ambergris, patchouli and vanilla, without any trace of the initial violet leaf.
The violet note gives me different impressions depending on the fragrance where it is used. I just dislike the Fahrenheit family pungency and its peculiar smell of gasoline, with the exception of the rare Absolut flanker. In contrast, I greatly appreciate Narciso Rodriguez for Him and his facet of wet asphalt. Tuxedo evokes these two perfumes, but without being able to affirm a strong similarity.
Performance is average, with a longevity of up to 7~8 hours, with a sillage of up to five feet, and less than 2 hours of projection (with three sprays on the back of the hand).
In my closet, this bottle will be parked among other YSLs.
Can it be considered a masterpiece? I would answer with a "NO". The violet leaf is too poignant and enduring to please me, despite being very elegant and calling for a "Tux".

Johann Strauss II Viennese Waltz

The Viennese waltz is a rotating dance in which dancers continuously turn to the leader's right (natural) or to the left of the leader (reverse), interspersed with non-rotating change steps to switch from the direction of rotation. If I close my eyes and bring my nose closer to the point of the wrist covered with YSL Tuxedo, I can see the graceful violet and the resolute ambergris dancing Johann Strauss II's Blue Danube waltz. He dressed in a tuxedo as dark as patchouli, she in a fluttering vanilla-coloured chiffon dress.

Although classified as a spicy chypre, I don't really recognize that kind of family. This is all about caramelized amber patchouli infused with light, juicy floral touches and soft spice. Also, the official description was misleading to me, as you will read later. This is what they say "L'eau de parfum Tuxedo contains the opaque texture of patchouli illuminated by the dark brightness of the spices." Indeed, when I smelled this perfume for the first time, something familiar came to my mind, but at that moment, I couldn't touch it; then, after wearing it, my memory took me back to a perfume I used in the past. This perfume is very reminiscent of Gucci II, especially the atmosphere of tea and violet leaves.

Initially, I am greeted by an alcoholic and leathery accord, more or less similar to boozy craft cocktails and suede. I don't get any citrus flavour from bergamot; instead, a handful of sour coriander and berries pops up. While these are all perfectly blended, I pick up a burst of wet violet leaf in the opening. I feel the sweetness, the hint of smooth patchouli, and I also sense the coumarin to give it an extra dimension.

The violet and patchouli hang in the middle and finish, and the heart almost feels like a gourmand, but the rose and lily of the valley seem to keep it on edge. The intermediate stage is captivating; I can't get my nose out of my hands.

The finish is woody and sweet, with a significant warm and toasted caramelized vanilla flavour, but it is also sensual, dark, and smooth, a type of romantic scent. If vanilla is delicious, like a crème brûlée, ambroxan and pepper give it a powdery amber cocoa sensation. Unfortunately, I'm one of those who get little patchouli—just a breath, but nothing more. I mean, it's not the signature I get from Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or Zino Davidoff, for example. In Tuxedo, it is not one of the critical elements, but only a complementary, clean, lightened part. It smells like dusty wood, softened and made slightly delicate.

Tuxedo is a slightly sweet, alcoholic, smoky fragrance with a creamy vanilla base. Very well blended. Just a beautiful perfume that smells like elements of a luxury cocktail party. The most dominant notes are leathery vanilla, salty and creamy ambergris, and green violet leaves. I even got a hint of smoke that sang out, a sort of fluid and shiny incense, bringing a slight sharpness to the warmth. YSL Tuxedo is just light and pleasant enough to be an everyday perfume and a memorable evening-outs for Fall and Winter months. The scent is so pleasing and not overwhelming. Longevity is not an issue, but projection might be better; I only get a couple of hours before it turns into a skin scent.
