Objective Romance
Many years ago I fell in love with Y and it was a founding member of my collection.
A round chypre that simply always fits - to every dress and every mood.
It was especially nice that my girlfriend gave me Y for every birthday - that made the fragrance all the more precious.
But the dear friend is no longer alive - and I bought Y myself - with wistful memories.
At my fragrance dealer's I discovered it in a functional cube bottle - which somehow disturbed me.
I think it's inappropriate that high-quality labels now uniform their bottles.
Guerlain now fills " beehives " - and YSL obviously fills " cubes ".
I don't like either.
Where is the shapely variety of flacons that the eye has already been able to delight in?
And you could also find "your" daytime scent when you were drowsy.
Well, I took the cube with me - in the hope that the scent would remain the same.
But this is not the case.
The formerly round Y has also become more angular in its statement.
No, not bad - but less feminine.
I think of Kästner's " Sachliche Romanze " - a poem in which a couple lost love, - like others lost a stick or a hat.
Yes, and in the new Y I miss the intimacy - the kindness - that also connected my girlfriend giving me presents and me.
This Y is spicy and white-blooded - powdered with iris and deepened with patch - elegant but more distanced.
The oakmoss is fortunately soft and not bitter.
If you don't have the "old" Y in mind, the new one is a fragrance of great value with an elegant statement.
I might make friends with him yet.
Love at second sight is sometimes more durable.
