Objective Romance
Many years ago, I fell in love with Y, and it was a founding member of my collection.

A round chypre that simply always fit - with any outfit and any mood.

What was particularly nice was that my girlfriend gifted me Y for every birthday - that made the fragrance all the more valuable.

But my dear friend is no longer with us - and I bought Y for myself - with a wistful memory.

At my fragrance dealer, I discovered it in a plain cube bottle - which somewhat bothered me.
I find it inappropriate that quality labels are now standardizing their bottles.

Guerlain is now filling in "bee hives" - and YSL obviously in "cubes."
Neither appeals to me.

Where is the beautiful variety of bottles that once delighted the eye?
And one could also find "their" daytime fragrance even in a sleepy state.

Well, I took the cube with me - hoping that the scent had remained the same.
But that is not the case.

Even the formerly round Y has become more angular in its expression.
No, not bad - but less feminine.

I am reminded of Kästner's "Objective Romance" - a poem in which a couple lost their love, like others lose a stick or a hat.

Yes, and I miss the intimacy in the new Y - the kindness - that also connected my gifting friend and me.

This Y is spicy and white-flowered - over-powdered by iris and deepened by patchouli - elegant but more distant.
The oakmoss is fortunately soft and not bitter.

If one does not have the "old" Y in mind, the new one is indeed a quality fragrance with an elegant statement.

I might still warm up to it.
Love at second glance is sometimes more lasting.

Strong Presence
I unfortunately have to elaborate a bit........., because there was a strange moment.......
Here, the story takes place at a campsite in Haddorf near Lingen in Emsland.
So my snorer and I set off with a cute caravan. It only took an hour.
Upon arrival, we checked in at the site manager's office, and in front of us was a family of three, who
also spoke English to register.
The child was about 10, he was around 60, and she was in her early 40s. At no moment did I think they were the grandparents. They weren't.
The woman was maybe just 1.45 m tall. I initially saw her only as a little person. ;-)
Then two days passed, and it happened that we had a nice, long evening with the Scots - as it turned out later.
The crazy thing was when he came around the corner with vodka and wine and asked if we wanted to drink together, I remembered the woman completely differently.
Suddenly, she stood in front of me, greeting me warmly, and I did the same!
Her scent was, in contrast to her inconspicuous appearance, so magnetically strong that I could only admire her. It's somehow intense how such a fragrance affects you.
She was also beautifully made up and had a great look with nice teeth.
She reinterpreted Y for me, and I bought into her story. This little person carries gunpowder, and her older husband probably wasn't even aware of it. I could just laugh my head off. ""
In any case, I wore it for two days after camping and somehow felt unworthy of it. Haha. I think I need to grow a bit more. ""

I love Y. In the colder season, it is just as essential for my office day as the lambswool turtleneck under the blazer. Y feels like a second skin to me: just spray it on and my office self is there.

With horror, I have therefore noticed that my favorite has not only been repackaged but also reformulated. Well, I might as well give it a try.

Sprayed on. What is THAT??? What is so disharmonious here? So harsh? Like a bad copy of Y?

By now, I have had the bottle for a while and have occasionally mixed it in with the previous Y. A resemblance is noticeable, but the new Y will certainly not become my office self. At best, a scent that is somehow acceptable in an emergency.

I’m sorry, but I had to quickly stock up on the old version to avoid this reformulation for as long as possible .....

This version is still better than no "Y" at all. Herb-floral Chypre, feels like it's from another time. The base is scratchier than before. Still good.

A fairy-tale landscape shrouded in mist, where it smells mossy-fresh and like floral soap. I think it’s wonderful!

Unfortunately, it's not as great as the old version anymore. It starts very soapy, then becomes floral - powdery, and the base is noticeably less mossy.

More straightforward and direct than the original Y. A bit more elegant too. But still a lovely scent. Just a bit less soft and feminine.

Not bad! Not my thing, but not completely bad either. Green and mossy scent. :P ;):)
