Aptly Named

This is a fragrance starts so delectable that it tempts you to lick the skin of the person wearing it. It starts with a berry sweetness, a natural sweetness that you typically don't get with other BTSO fragrances. The berries mix with the boozy, spicy, and woody notes. This is drinking cognac off of a lover's lips. Its a great start to the fragrance and I wish it would last a little longer. The berries, booze, and spice mellow out into a creamy wood vanilla dry down, its good but fairly basic.

This fragrance lasted all day, over 8 hours. The projection was good but not super strong, so its office appropriate. A 50ml will cost you $205.

Speeding Off In The Wrong Direction

Rich red berries burst forth in the opening but are crushed in seconds under the weight of citrus, juniper and pepper, an accord which is fun for a moment, but quickly begins to resemble an artificial 'car vent clip-on freshener' smell. Moments later, it fades to something a touch sweeter and warmer, but still feels commercial, designer. It's just a touch too synthetically 'fresh', and whatever note is giving that effect is holding the composition back instead of serving to make it more complex, lingering like the unpleasant frigid chill of a blasting air conditioner in a luxury car dealership. It's like I can smell the cinnamon and cardamom and sandalwood trapped beneath it, knocked unconscious by its weight.

I'm slightly taken aback by how 'un-sexy' this feels to me. I can tell it's *trying* to be sexy, but in the way someone hitting on you is, at an event you've attended with your spouse, who has excused themselves to the washroom. It's missing context and obviously misses the mark.

Update a few hours later: the fresh note dissipates after about two hours, and the sweet resinous base is pleasant, but just too basic for what this fragrance promises (and costs)! The drydown is nearly indistinguishable from Prada Ocean Luna Rossa. This fragrance's middle was bold in all the wrong ways, and its base too boring. Just a dissonant strike-out.

inscrutable but addictive

i don't really know what i'm smelling but it's not bad. slightly sweet and sexy, the smell of my handbag after a night out, like if a fresh shower + going-out perfume + makeup + bar ambience + sweat was a really nice perfume.

the drydown smells like the synthetic base of a man's cheap cologne plus a little sweetness. it's like my own niche $300 gourmand perfume has mostly worn off but the man i was kissing left his oversprayed chemical weapon all over my jacket. i don't hate it.

How Sugar Addict Became Drunk Lovers

I really wanted to test Sugar Addict from BTSO, as I had read and heard so many good things about it.
Said and done.
Well, when the package with the fragrance samples arrived, Sugar Addict was not included, but rather a 5ml sample of Drunk Lovers.
What? I questionedly checked all the samples again, found nothing. So I checked the order again - and lo and behold - I had "clicked" the wrong one.
Well, never mind, I’ll just test Drunk Lovers now. And what can I say - I was thrilled from the first spray, the scent is simply a dream.

It starts fruity, fresh, juicy. I perceive citrus notes only very subtly, but deep red, dark berries with a slight sweetness. My nose also picks up woody elements of the berry bush, or I imagine that the stems of the berries are woven into the scent as well.
Then, a pleasant alcoholic note quickly comes to the fore. It smells like cognac, but it could also be an expensive rum. This alcoholic note harmonizes very well with the fruits; it is never too dominant, although it has a certain depth.
In the drydown, it becomes sweeter and spicier, but it never gets too much. You feel slightly "tipsy," cozy, warm.

Hours after spraying, I could still smell the scent on my wrist - soft, vanillic with a hint of cognac in the background.
After wearing it several times, I finally have a full bottle of Drunk Lovers on my shelf. (Sugar Addict who?)
