Soft Sandalwood Musk

I was intrigued by this one because almond was a new note to me and I haven't tried it before. Paired with my search for a good, realistic rice scent and and its overall popularity, I had to try it.

Disappointingly, I didn't detect any almond or even nuttiness that I could recognize. The scent developed into a creamy woodiness that was pleasant enough, but it also didn't smell like rice to me. As it warms on the skin, it really does become sandalwood-musk forward. It's soft and calm, definitely not the impression of 'dirty' that the name and many other descriptions imply. Definitely no rice, either. Bummer.

It lasted about 3 hours before it became more of a close skin scent, and it stayed a soft and clean sandalwood-musk the entire time. I don't dislike it - it's lovely, all things considered, but for all the hype and people going on about how this was a super creamy realistic rice scent and waxing lyrical about it, it was disappointing to just have this be... well, average.

It’s the woody-floral sandalwood bath salts perfuming the water, the sweet, creamy almond musk of soaped skin, and the intimate warmth of steamed air. It smells of subtle indulgence and casual luxury.

Soft sandalwood and not-so-dirty rice steam

BTSO really is the master of cringe names. There is nothing dirty about this scent and it doesn't need to pretend like there is. On the contrary, this is such a soft and clean fragrance to my nose.

The main note is a light, milky sandalwood. Rice is quite noticeable, too. It's a fluffy rice steam similar to the one in Kenzo Amour, even though the rest of the scent is quite different from this one. I also get a lot of white musk and the lightest touch of cedar, emphasizing the woodsy skin scent vibes. Almond adds a hint of sweet warmth, peony and bergamot contribute some cool freshness to balance it. I especially like how the peony lifts and brightens the scent, it's a great addition to this kind of muted scent profile.

At first I found this boring, but as I got to know it better, it grew on me. Now I think it's a pretty scent for everyday use. If you go in with the expectation of something attention-grabbing or "dirty" (in any sense of the word), you will be disappointed, but if you're looking for a fresh and clean skin scent with a noticeable rice note, this might be just right.

Musky, woody, and rice forward

A creamy, milky, and woody rice fragrance. This is a woody basmati rice scent with fresh peonies and milky notes. This opens with some powdery almond that quickly develops into a powdery basmati rice smell. The rice in here smells similar to uncooked rice and is paired with some milkiness and fresh and clean peonies. The dry is a more woody forward and musky rice scent with a crisp cetalox, dry vetiver and sweet sandalwood. I love how woody of a rice scent this is, and the milkiness is a nice touch. This also only has a mild sweetness to it which works to really highlight that white rice smell. Lovely fragrance

By "Dirty" they mean utterly indecent (complimentary)

I mean, take a peek at their website! I need a whole thread on unique fragrance sites, this one has to be one of my favorites.

But I digress, Dirty Rice is my first BTSO fragrance and it was love at first whiff! It immediately hits with spiky, woodsy notes, and very subtle almond in the background. It is spicy, warm, and musky. Then it beautifully rounds up developing into the softest, milkiest, spicy rice. Kind of reminds me of 'arroz con dulce' (rice pudding). I love that its silky smokiness and subtle sweetness lingers throughout the day.

Personally I didn't really get any clean, day-time notes. To me it feels more of an evening/night-out fragrance. It makes you feel sexy, indecent and mysterious like you're up to no good. Amusingly, this will be my go-to nobody-understands-me fragrance
