Dark Red, Old Wood and Shining Silver
Slowly and viscously, the black droplets run down the tree. Like veins, they adorn the bark. Only upon closer inspection do I realize that it is not black, as initially assumed, but a deep, dark red. Almost as if the tree is bleeding.
But it is by no means dead. The strong, gnarled branches twist through the entire forest, leaving little room for other plants and trees to grow. The tree bears no leaves. Instead, thorns grow from the bark of the trunk and the branches.
As I walk around the tree and examine it more closely, I notice a vertical crack from which silver light shines. This crack seems to pulse, opening and closing with each beat. I see juicy blossoms growing inside the tree.
Adorned with the darkest shades of red, the petals sway in time with the pulse. A strongly alluring musk scent is released by the silver shimmering pollen and spreads throughout the forest, seeping into every tiny crevice of the old woods. It seduces every living being that dares to venture into the darkness of the trees.
Once you have smelled these blossoms, it is hard to embrace something new.
