Homeros: Oud Royale Ensar Oud 2026

Hello everyone,

this evening I wanted to write something about the new Homeros: Oud Royale, and I’ll say it right away - this may well become one of my longest reviews.

Where exactly should I begin...

I had the Homeros Parfum in the leather-clad version, meaning the first version in the leather presentation and NOT the Homeros Ambre version. And I was also one of the few people worldwide who owned a 50ml OG of the Oud Royale Pure Perfume, and both were dark, masculine, evil and uncompromising, and to me both were absolute works of art with a completely unique charm - and beautiful to perhaps 95%(+) of people (with the exception of the high-end artisan community), they were not...

You had to want something like that and be able to wear it as well.

When I read a few weeks ago that this one now existed, I was extremely interested..., since I had sold both OGs shortly beforehand..., well, I ordered it.

(I’ll leave out my customs odyssey...)

What did I expect?

Something dark... no, very dark + evil + uncompromising, a true statement beast. BUT that is exactly what it is not, and I’ll tell you why I find it so incredibly fascinating. I have now worn it practically continuously for x days (day, night, at 22°C, at 32°C, with several people around me and completely by myself). The review is beginning indirectly now.

Right from the start, you get a kind of mixture of the original EO N°1 Pure Parfum, the new Crime & Punishment: Kerosene and an extra dose of "gas-station oud". I have never experienced it quite like this before, but the XXL portion of gris helps here.

It gives Homeros: Oud Royale a constant (!) and practically ever-present marine and salty aquatic flair throughout the entire development. However, it is not the main player that nobody can get past; instead, it works with every single fragrance note, boosting them and making them feel more authentic and pleasant.

After just 5 minutes, it transforms, and the perhaps unpleasant or stern opening disappears, with the first WTF moment appearing. Yes, the original Homeros Parfum is recognisable in its leathery and spicy-smoky character, but it is really only noticeable in the background and only at many different moments. And when it does appear, in my opinion, it is more on the leathery side.

You also immediately notice the fruit, which is NOT sweet, NOT dry, but very authentic, with the most prominent fruit being this red mandarin.

There is an image shown on the homepage (location unknown, judging purely by the visual appearance, I’d guess Greece), and this exact scene fits the fragrance soooo well. An open-air restaurant on a slope, slightly elevated, built on stone, above the sea with cypresses...

And I absolutely love cypresses, and you can notice them here (sometimes more, sometimes less, but they are there), and for that alone = thank you, EO.

The saltiness and the rough character accompany you, but they are not intrusive at all.

The next WTF moment..., its floral, creamy and gentle character - I did not see that coming in the slightest, essentially a bright, well-organised maritime Homeros character.

The mix of osmanthus, sandalwood, the different types of musk and vanilla is a WOW and nothing else.

Certain fragrance notes, such as the tobacco or a smoky saffron (which can be leathery, smoky or relatively sweet), patchouli, ginger, civet and co. are practically not actively noticeable and, in my opinion, form more the framework of the fragrance and boost it,

The later drydown is incredibly refined, and (for me) the name suffix OR could slowly start to do it justice = BUT the oud wood used here is not smelly, animalic or off-putting. Many people experienced the OG Oud Royale Pure Perfume that way, but here, with Homeros: Oud Royale, that is NOT the case.

I notice a dark (very refined) old wood, with Tibetan musk and a touch of Taif rose, and it is practically the mixture of the classic OR.

I’m being honest with you, I did not see this coming/ did not expect it and did not believe that EO would take this route = nevertheless, I’m extremely happy to own it.

Why exactly?

There are many fragrances in the entire fragrance world that are relatively linear; this one is an absolute exception and (roughly) every 10 minutes takes a completely new and unexpected direction. So if you want to experience something and embark on a fragrance journey..., I’m happy to invite you to try MS Homeros: Oud Royale.

Performance is very good, and I think it will become even better over time (bottle, maturation, molecules, connections, all the chemical stuff).

What did other people and especially my wife say?

She knew both of them and generally isn’t really a fan of more animalic fragrances, so sometimes I have to pay attention to the dosage when I’m wearing something around her. But interestingly, she said the following = after 5 minutes, it reminds me very much of a place by the sea, for example the Mediterranean (I see it that way too). My mother-in-law liked it extremely much despite 30°C, and my father-in-law really enjoys the maritime character (salty and mineralic).

When and where - try it out, it is more versatile than one might think or believe.
In an adjusted dosage, you can even wear it to sleep...

YES, this is one you should know.
Do you (absolutely) need to own the bottle?
NO!
But you should know it/ try it at some point!
