The Weight of Flowers, Pink by Association
In his own words, Mr Ensar sets the record straight immediately: there’s no such thing as “pink oud”. The pink in Pink Papua is an abstraction. A floral aura that makes the oud feel pink by association, absolutely not by colour. The trick is that, despite the airy concept, this wears with the weight of flowers: thick petals, relatively creamy density, and that narcotic richness that I can attribute to lotus (considering the very limited experience I have with this ingredient).

As previously mentioned in my brief statement here on Parfumo, I can detect 3 distinct stages in Pink Papua:
- Stage 1: an airy, camphorated oud breeze holding up an initially bitter floral bouquet. The bitterness is key, as it stops the whole composition from becoming “pretty,” and keeps it more botanical than bouquet.
- Stage 2: the composition thickens. The lotus turns creamier and more tactile, while the oud shifts from “fresh” to a more incensy backbone. Ensar describes a deliberate oud fusion (Borneo + Indian) designed to match the floral profile... and you can smell that intent in the mid.
- Stage 3: the landing is where the ylang-ylang earns its keep. Still intertwined with the aforementioned oud combination, a golden (not yellow) floral warmth props-up and rounds the drydown's edges.

Looking at the performance of Pink Papua, I tend to agree with those who are describing it as semi-eternal. This is not a hyperbole, it's based on my experience: this "pink abstraction" will last 20h+ on skin. The scent will radiate for the first 5-6 hours. It will recede after that, but it will still be perceptible as a notch above skin scent until the next day.

This was my first Ensar Oud experience, and given the price tag the expectations were not modest. Thankfully, Pink Papua earns it: a clearly structured composition, genuinely unusual materials (for me), and a clever oud architecture that supports (rather than smothers) the florals. The result is a truly genderless floral: airy at the top, weighty in the petals, and glowing through the ylang in the end.

Quite disappointing
This fragrance was quite a disappointement. I mean, it literally just smells like pink lotus. Slightly aquatic, bright, sweet… Does this mean it’s bad? No it doesnt, its actually pleasant, especially if you like pink lotus. But in my opinion this is way too simplistic for ensar oud and especially if we consider the pricetag… I’d have liked to see maybe some slightly bitter incensey purple kinam contrasting the pink lotus atleast

Ensar is Taking New Paths... / Unisex?
Hello everyone,

this evening I would like to say something about "Pink Papua (2024) | Ensar Oud / Oriscent".

The first thing I noticed while testing the fragrance is that it differs from almost all the scents I know from EO so far.

What do I mean by that?

The fragrances are usually either very musky or oud-based, or a combination of both, and mostly quite straightforward = ranging from a very subtle animalic note to real powerhouses = that really push forward.

This has 0.0 influence on the quality of the fragrance oils used, as they are always top-notch and probably among the best = but that is a personal decision. Because in my opinion, that is subjective!

__________

About the scent:

It is very floral and soft, and for me (!) it is the first scent from EO that I would say is unisex wearable, and even women will enjoy it. Because that has not been the case before/never (!) with EO. So those who like jasmine, magnolia, and the cool and clean lotus will get their money's worth, BUT these words do not mean that it is only for a feminine audience - NO.

There are many men who like exactly that, and there are also those who do not enjoy the typical EO powerhouse.

BUT those (I had to wait too!) who experience it for about 3 hours will encounter one of the nicest, most beautiful, and somehow also the most wonderful drydowns in my opinion.

BECAUSE!

The scent sheds all (!) its floral notes and becomes truly wonderful, in the sense of creamy, slightly smoky, almost clean woody = really top-notch! I did not see this transformation coming, I hoped for it - but did not expect it.

In terms of the pure top note, I would give it a 6 and really not much more. But when I see the great drydown and the transformation, I feel that the 8 I gave it is almost too little!

H/S completely good and sufficient (each).

It is not my type of fragrance, but it is not uninteresting and it shows something new. Because has there ever been a truly feminine wearable scent from EO? I don’t know of any ;)

How does it go over:

My wife is usually not a big fan of most EO fragrances, but this one is really okay and YES - it is the first one she has worn herself, which is why I am absolutely convinced that "Pink Papua: Jayapula | Ensar Oud / Oriscent" is UNISEX and she really liked it on herself...!

Just a note on the price:

Fragrances from EO are usually very, very expensive and quite pricey and something for true lovers of a certain quality, and at the end of the day, they are also not for the masses, as these fragrances never appeal to "many", like for example fragrances from XJ, CC, Amouage, LV, and co.! The scent comes from EO's "most affordable" line - I don’t want to evaluate it further...., but the scent is definitely worth a TEST!

And now have a nice day/evening or whenever you read this review, best regards, Benny

Beautiful floral scent but nothing more. There are plenty of botanical fragrances out there. Oud seems to have been forgotten or added homeopathically.
