Not Safe For Church
This opens bitingly strong, I’m not sure what note is responsible. But it settles down quickly. What I get is a massive, indistinct floral bouquet with boozy and spicy aspects, hovering over a darker underlying quality that smells like…a medieval church.

Despite the punchiness of this scent profile, it’s quite soft, almost powdery. The spices here smell more like cinnamon or nutmeg than clove, I don’t get the sharp medicinal quality I usually associate with clove. The florals smell very much like whatever my church used in the flower arrangements, which may have been carnations, though I still don't know what they smell like in isolation.

This scent is pretty linear. Throughout, you get this layering of spicy boozy florals over wood and incense. I don’t know if I can smell a “stone” note, but I can for sure picture the bluestone walls of a church when I smell this. Yet I wouldn’t dream of wearing this to church. It's too much, too sensuous. The florals are too floral, the spices are too spicy, the alcohol for sure isn’t communion wine. It’s indecent. And delicious. Utterly unique and signature-worthy.

A cocktail created by Harry and Caresse Crosby
Beauté du Diable from Liquides Imaginaires is a heady cocktail created by a couple of eccentric bons vivants, something to celebrate an evening of decadent parlor games and general hedonism: an herbal froth of verdant absinthe, a heavy-handed crystalline pour of breathtakingly expensive gin, and a peppery crush of carnation petals– drunk copiously in smoky wood paneled secret rooms while a sweet, narcotic resin burns throughout the night, stinging the eyes and inducing a strange, mystical trance. In the morning, these self-indulgent socialites and muses of the devil send dearest Papa a telegram, demanding that he “Please sell $10,000 worth in stock. We intend to live a mad and extravagant life!"

Spicy & Dark
Oh this is beautiful. You immediately get hit with gin, absinthe and coriander and it’s quite strong, but it instantly settles down into a spicy, yet fresh scent. The floral notes aren’t overpowering yet work beautifully with the clove on the drydown. I don’t get much of the cobblestone note, though I can only just smell it and it smells delightfully wet and damp. Such a beautifully dark yet fresh fragrance. My first scent from Liquides Imaginaires and I already want to try more. This has quickly become my signature fragrance, I always keep a little decant with me when I go out.

why is this so spicy ?
“Why is this so spicy?” Insert meme here. That was my first reaction to Beauté du Diable by Liquides Imaginaires.

This fragrance is undeniably strange — not bad, even quite likeable in its own way, but challenging. It’s bold, unapologetically spicy, and has an almost theatrical quality to it. I’ll be honest: can I pull this one off? Nope. But is it worth trying just for the sheer uniqueness of the blend? Probably.

It’s the kind of scent that doesn’t blend into the background; it demands attention and thrives on its audacious personality. I imagine wearing this not for everyday occasions, but to complete a carefully curated look — maybe for Halloween, or on a day when I want to channel my inner demon who just rolled through a spice rack.

straight up intoxicating
opens up like a potion from the witch's cauldron - a tonic made of gin, absinth and coriander seeds, with just the tiniest spritz of oil from an orange peel. it's dry, herbal and bitter to the point of making you salivate.
it brews slowly, letting the cloves and carnations transform it into creamy, warm and spicy concoction that holds you in a trance-like state for hours, until the very drydown, where it turns more woody.

(thankfully i do not get any of the geranium notes here, the ylang ylang is not too potent either - so if you are a hater of one of those, there's no need to be scared)

it's just delicious.

Vaulted wooden ceiling, incense, flower arrangements, bluestone walls…but these florals are too flamboyant for church. Bit powdery

Didn’t enjoy any of the notes in the beginning. But the drydown is incredible! Vaulted archive, oil lamps, decaying flowers, old books… love!!!

This is super nice and very unique to my nose! It's like if L'orpheline had a spicy, floral and seductive sibling. Hot

I keep thinking about this. It’s something in that soft and melancholic carnation that keeps me coming back. Elegant, has structure, has a story.

Strong scent with great sillage. Opens with a bit of sheep farm smell, drys down to numb stone and bit animalic scent! Nice to have!

Not as diabolic as the name suggest. In fact, it's quite appealing. Has an Amouage-like versatility. Much more original, though.

Come, let's let the herbs
The geraniums and carnations
Wither in the booze on the stone
Night soon sprays milkwood
Like dark balm
