Teleported me to a fairytale forest
When I describe scents, I usually always associate them with something I've smelled in real life, or with a memory.

I don't think I'm a very imaginative person. Even when I read books, I prefer to read non-fiction. But when I smell Dirty Hinoki, somehow I can't think of any nature scenes to compare it to.
Unless I break the fragrance down into individual notes. But even then, it's very difficult.

Firstly, there is nothing "dirty" here. It's sweet, woody, resinous and yet slightly green. Like thick pine sap drizzled over a warm lemon cake and sprinkled with freshly picked pine leaves.

When I smell it, I imagine a pine forest in a fairy tale, with a little wooden hut in the middle. It's a winter evening, it's very cold, dark and I'm alone. The snow is smooth, thick and clean. I walk towards this wooden hut and as I get closer, I see that the fireplace is burning. And the hut is empty. I have a look, the door is unlocked! I enter the hut and immediately smell something sweet baking in the oven. It's a lemon cake! How cozy this little hut is!

It reminds me a lot of a scented candle. Especially Evergreen Mist from Yankee Candle, hahaha. One of my favorite scented candles. So if you've smelled this candle, then you know what this perfume smells like.

Otherwise, introduce Hwyl or Monocle Scent One: Hinoki, but without the smokiness, and add some sweetness.

The H/S could be better. I can smell it for about 4 hours, with moderate sillage. But it seems to be a trend with these types of pine/Hinoki-inspired fragrances that they tend not to last long.

I would wear it especially in the colder months. It really brings out the resin of the pine.

If you like Hwyl or Monocle Scent One: Hinoki, I'm pretty sure you'll at least find Dirty Hinoki interesting!

Baby powder, but chic!
Whoever claimed in the inspiration that this smells like Fahrenheit Eau de Toilette should be arrested.
Jokes aside, I don't find this to smell similar to anything claimed in the inspiration.

To me, it starts woody and dry. You can really notice the orris root and carrot seeds. The woody drydown here is similar to the woody drydown one can observe in Sonic Flower, Infusion d'Iris (2007) Eau de Parfum, Iris Porcelana, Mojave Ghost Eau de Parfum or Fleur de Peau Eau de Parfum. But that doesn't mean that Nirmal smells like any of them. They only have this one similar type of note in common.

After that, the powderiness comes through. It's definitely powdery, but also warm, cozy and slightly sweet. I think the warmth and sweetness here comes from the suede and amber. The powderiness reminds me of Cuir Béluga Eau de Parfum, Musc Infini, Musc Ravageur Eau de Parfum or "The Musc | Essential Parfums". Again, these are not at all identical. But they can be cousins. If you know what I mean ;)

So I find Nirmal quite unique. It may seem generic at first, but after wearing it for a while and realizing that it has all these facets, I haven't found anything very similar to it. Unless, I guess, one has layered or blended the previously mentioned perfumes.

I think the H/S is great! In fact, it has quite a strong sillage, so I only need two sprays: one on the back of my neck and one on the crook of my elbow. I can smell this for over 12 hours. And I think it's really great that they offer a 100 ml bottle and also a smaller 30 ml bottle.
I can only highly recommend smelling this if you are a fan of the previously mentioned perfumes!

What an underrated gem!
A perfumery I ordered from sprayed my parcel with this perfume. I was immediately fascinated.

It smelled like gin and tonic with a few juniper berries. Fresh, cold and classy. When I smell this on someone, I get the following impression; in English we say: "they have their shit together" hahaha.

It starts very fresh and rather sweet. Like a glass of cold lemonade. The sweetness somehow reminds me of Pacific Rock Moss. But that's where the similarities end. With the further development of "FR/18 | A.N Other" it becomes less sweet.
Instead, the juniper comes more to the fore. There are also "cold" spicy notes, presumably from lavender and ginger. At this stage, it reminds me a lot of In This World, but "FR/18 | A.N Other" has much better H/S and also much better value for money.

So when I say the H/S are just great. Especially when you consider that it's a freshie. It lasts me over 6 hours, with medium projection (not too loud, not too quiet). I think it's unisex and can be worn all year round for all kinds of occasions. Very versatile.
In winter, I think juniper is more striking. But maybe the sweetness blooms more in summer. Let's see!

Wellness in a bottle
It starts off very green. The kind of green that reminds me of petitgrain. It's probably due to the mixture of green leaves and bitter orange.

I think this blend is simply genius! I often find petitgrain too sharp and sometimes a tad too bitter. This makes the green softer, mass-appealing, but still very unique.

I think that's great because I know I can wear it in the office without having to worry about disturbing everyone else.

Unfortunately, I don't smell much juniper here. It stays in the background and adds a few herbal notes and freshness.

I don't smell much cedar and incense here either. I think they are just there to soften the green edges.

I wish it lasted a little longer. On myself, I can smell it for about 4 hours. It has a medium sillage, especially in the first hour. After that it is very close to the skin.

I find it very elegant, relaxing and simply beautiful. If you love green, woody and nature-scented fragrances, I highly recommend giving this a try!

My childhood
If you just want to get to the point of the review, you can skip these first 2 paragraphs where I'm being nostalgic lol. So, I was born and raised in South Borneo. It's very green, very warm, very humid. We are also very deeply spiritual and superstitious. One of the things we like to do is whenever we would like to pay respect to a place, we like to put some yellow ribbons around that area and splash some ylang-ylang water there too. Sometimes you also wash your hands, arms, and face with the ylang-ylang water because it just smells very nice.

Yes, ylang-ylang water. Those fresh, still green ylang-ylang flowers, you pluck them off the tree, sometimes you also got some leaves stuck together with them. Mix those ylang-ylang with banana tree branch, fresh rose petals, fresh jasmine. And then you just put them altogether in water. I guess it's like ylang-ylang infused water. If you want to see how it looks, just make a google image search: "kambang barenteng banjar".

Klubwasser (2018) smells like that ylang-ylang floral water. It's fresh, green, aromatic, slightly floral. When I smelled it the first time, I almost cried (I know, I can be a bit dramatic sometimes). But it just sent me back straight to my childhood.

The projection is just moderate, but it does last for some time on clothes (I can still smell it faintly the next day). It's so so beautiful, and smells very natural. I recommend you to give this a sniff at least once in your lifetime!
