If anyone wants to properly delete their Fragrantica account rather than just log out indefinitely, here's how I did it about a year ago. (At that time there was no direct way to delete a profile, dunno if that's changed but I suspect not.)

I changed my profile picture to a simple graphic that read "Let's Leave Fragrantica!" - then I made a forum post encouraging people to ditch the platform with me and listed a few top grievances.

BOOM - admins deleted my account within 24 hours. Problem solved!😜

Like many people here, I finally got sick of the pop-up ads and the "free speech for admins, but censorship for users" AKA "no politics, except for admin politics" hypocrisy.

This is actually my first Parfumo post! I am a 10+ year-old Basenotes user, but that platform is dying a slow death it seems so I decided to compliment my activity there by also joining here. The Parfumo phone app actually works, so that's a big plus.

Hey, good to see ya, I have defected as well. I think there are many of us lol.

I opened an account here some years ago because they blocked me for downthumbing a series of fake reviews from some writer with multiple accounts & usernames (there were at least 10) This person was writing literally hundreds & hundreds of reviews under various guises (& being awarded perfume prizes by Fragrantica) It was also obvious that the writer had never even smelled some of the perfumes that they were writing multiple reviews for. When it was rumbled by other members, it was all swept under the carpet & the thread swiftly deleted.

Holy cow!  I remember that scandal that never was!  There was the one member who wrote under 10 accounts. What was her name?  Gabby? Giselle something?  I looked her up on facebook once and all of her "friends" were the FG alias accounts, with the same profile pics. Even the reviews weirdly referenced each other. Yeh, that was discussed in the forums for a hot minute and then quietly swept under the rug. Some of those other accounts are still visible on FG.

Gigi the Fashionista! Of course she also had many other names, but that was the main.

Thank you!!!  Southern Blonde is one her aliases that's still on the site.

Ah yes, the cruiseship dancer. Honestly, with all the hate and political insanity going on there, this old piece of fragrantica lore seems almost wholesome and very funny 😄

I wasn't exiled, but decided to move over here of my own free will once I learned about this place on Reddit.

Fragrantica is the main website that pops up when I'm looking up perfumes, so I gravitated to it out of necessity. I don't mind the outdated and clunky UI, and while it was unpleasant to constantly be bombarded with ads that cover half of my screen, I didn't mind that much either. But it felt like a very hostile environment for any non-positive reviews, and once I found out that the overall icky atmosphere is a feature that stems from the leadership's politics, I was itching to be somewhere else

So I jumped ship as soon as I learned that Parfumo is a thing that exists. Even if it isn't as content filled and/or active right now, if this hobby lasts, I'm capable enough of producing new content myself. And if that's how things are gonna go — I'd prefer to share the fruits of my labor with a healthier little platform rather than continue feeding that beast.

Exactly the same with me. A recent article featuring the new fragrance of a certain politician in very entusiastic way showed me that maybe I didn't want to be a part of that community. Fortunately, I saw someone saying they were moving to Parfumo before the comment was deleted by the admins, so here I am.

But there's one thing, I'm brazilian and rely a lot on the brazilian Fragrantica to discuss our local brands. Maybe I will be able to bring brazilian perfumes to Parfumo's database, you guys deserve to know Natura and Granado, our top two brands.

We have both brands in our database but if perfumes are missing you are welcome to suggest them in the research area =)

God...where to start? I stayed there out of convenience, but after doing a deep dive, really understanding how insane the whole site org is + having witnessed a lot of the issues mentioned in the posts here...it just became too absurd to remain in a fascist hotbed that happens to have a perfume database attached to it. It's a perfume site!!! We're supposed to talk about Shalimar!! Not Mar-a-Lago!!!

I will miss the funny reviews...but putting those in the scales along with:

- too many ChatGPT poets writing AI slop reviews (yes we all believe that in the span of 1 day you smelled 50 to 100 perfumes and wrote about each of them as if you're Proust incarnated)

- a UI old enough to start worrying about paying mortgage

- Pride Edition perfumes being uploaded just to get homophobically shat on by douchebags who think collecting bottles of JPG Le Male is the Manliest thing ever

- more and more morally corrupt people joining the fray along with the usual, miserable perfume snobs

...I'm happy with my decision! It's my first day here and I am loving the modern experience, the community seems welcoming, and I am ready to be bankrupted by the Souk. Hey everyone!!

Oh and how about all the 'Oh you should get the vintage, it is soooo much better blablabla' (speaking of snobs Smile) over there?

And the political views and talks are disgusting indeed! Aside from that, they are very lazy in updating the latest releases (new bottles and such) of the more clasic perfumes.

Welcome here and I'm sure you will enjoy this friendly site a lot more Smile!!

It sounds insane but the owners have to be Russian spies. Every thing about fragrantica gives covert opps fragrance website 😹 the forum is a beacon for the most malignant of personalities, like a black hole one is sucked into... I stay away.

Not so insane. Those fuc$#rs are everywhere and their warfare is learning how to manipulate the masses in different countries, to get them to polarize discussions and votes. Happening right now in Romania, where a Russian-backed candidate has convinced the poor, barely educated and the middle class fed-up with a corrupt system to vote for them, on MAGA-like promises that the country will isolate itself from the EU.

What better forum than one with hundreds of thousands of users to spread your political message? Perfume is just secondary, it just happens to be a popular theme that draws lots of users. That Knezevic cow and her husband are insane and there's no question in my mind that they're Russian backed.

1

@Raluko111  If they're going to go that far, I think they should put something like "We are directing this person" on the homepage of their website. That's fair play. Why do they act like a cult leader? Are they aiming for a subliminal effect?

4

I’m going to be blunt and say there are a lot of religious fruitcakes and Fox News zombies on there. If a perfume is marketed in a way that looks too “wOkE”,  the comment section is going to be a shit show. I’ve seen weirdos tell gay Fragrantica users that they will “pray that they find God.” I’ve seen one guy outright accuse gay and trans people of being child predators and another guy try to blame Black Lives Matter and Obama for Trump getting elected twice. Online spaces are so important for making connections, but it’s exhausting having to put up with abusive language from people who have a completely different sense of reality. Especially in this political climate where things are getting more high stakes every year.

5

some are calling others scumbags and antisemites, and these figures (accounts) are not even get banned.

then it all has to be humor according to them, but in my opinion the murder of 14000 children in Gaza is a tragedy and not humor.

I am annoyed by the strongly fascist characteristics and statements.

Let's please gently steer back on topic 🙂

We're all here because we love perfume - and maybe also because it gives us a break from the constant stream of political content elsewhere online. This thread was meant to share stories from former Fragrantica users, but it's veering off into political territory. Let's keep Parfumo the escape it's meant to be - focused on scent, not politics. 🙏

1

Though I sympathize with all comments above and agree with those, you are right @DonVanVliet, it could easily become very political here too and that's not what we're here for.

Absolutely - and just to add: if a political topic genuinely relates to perfume, that's of course okay. But in general, we try to avoid political debates here. We're a perfume community first and foremost, and that's what makes this space special. 👌

1

Yes, let's do that. I'll tell you my experience without touching on the political side. In Fragrantica, a guy insulted my country, so...
HEY!!! I just said I won't touch on the political side, right? lol
Anyway, it was bad but there were good people too. I hope they're well.

P.S.If they had something to say, I wish they had been honest and said it up front instead of sneaking around.

0

@DonVanVliet I fully agree.  Let's all be aware that Parfumo doesn't turn out the same as Fragrantica. Spreading hate ( in every way) is not good for the future of this platform.

those are the ones I stay for, because Iam not banned there, many doing fine and others have suffered damage from it.

it is what it is.

...I really loved their shelf function.

Welcome! And let us know if there is any feature you miss... Wink

I’d love a pyramid that is as pleasing and easily understandable as FG’s is… though I understand why we may want to keep the accords to a minimum, I think sometimes their accord pyramids do a better job at visually showing how it might smell.
