hi all, although I hate the term, I’m looking for an “ultra-niche” perfume house, so to speak. I want something that you think you’re the only person who knows about it. I need a house that makes perfume for the artistry and passion. I have no interest in something that’s going to smell objectively good and get compliments.
Artistic houses
Not sure if these qualify as “ultra-niche” or the kind of artistry you are looking for but I find that I am drawn to perfumers who connect with visual art and also the history of the form:
Bruno Fazzolari/Fzotic approaches fragrance with an interdisciplinary artistry that is impressive.
Mandy Aftel/Aftelier Perfumes offers a knowledgeable, historically-informed, approach that feels quite rare and distinctive.
Certainly I am not the only one who knows of them, but I don’t hear their fragrances mentioned very often.
Andy Tauer, Alessandro Gualtieri, Francesca Bianchi and Lorenzo Pazzaglia are on my radar atm.
Max Joacim Cosmetics definitely, I wrote about it more here 😊

Agree on Franesca Bianchi. Also consider Andrea Maack. I'm starting to explore Beaufort London ( house, not an individual nose). That might qualify. Alessandro Gualtieri's work as mentioned (Nasamoto and Orto Parisi) also fit the bill. Another house that I find creative is Masque Milano. Again, not an individual nose.
For the Scent of It - one dude in Wisconsin. Recently tested a few and bought 2 bottles.

Which one would you recommend? It may be something I could ask my US-based sister to ship me to Europe (well, bring with her for me...)

I really liked and bought Dreaming in Santal - nice sandalwood fragrance and
Molten Ambra a very fine amber.
Also tested Dreaming in Oud is a nice oud if you like woody oud without the barnyard stink in the beginning. It's pleasant right from the start. The other was
Wasteland Warrior. The name might make you think it's a crazy scent but it's something like Terre de Hermes but has a much better orange opening and is somewhat sweeter. Really nice too; would like to get it in the future.
He's also got a 5 sample discovery set where you pick the fragrances to include in the sample set.

No one knows about this house for sure. See, it's not even listed in Parfumo database. The tea scents are really good. Art School Dropout smells artsy. Literally. Clay, paint water...
Jorum Studio is totally unique! Lots of oddballs for sure, and so much fun to sample. They are carried at enough places you can get samples without TOO much trouble. Based in Scotland
I like their more approachable scents like Arborist ,
Rose Highland ,
Paradisi
Also I say "wearable" only relative to others in the line, they are still beyond the bell curve of crowd pleasing for sure. And I've highly enjoyed sampling everything even when I don't buy a bottle - his works are unlike anyone else.
Often I find that I like particular perfume creators rather than houses. Giuseppe Imprezzabile, the guy who launched Meo Fusciuni has some really interesting stuff, not just under his brand.
you could always befriend perfume hobbyists and ask them for testers of things they're working on, plenty of folks on reddit and facebook groups

MorganleFay
So i haven't tried any *yet* but I'm intrigued by Marcus Elizabeth. Saw his booth at a craft fair kinda thing recently, didn't get a chance to chat but will definitely revisit. Curaçao needs sniffing

Have to agree with this. I've started to explore Meo Fusciuni. Beautiful fragrances.

Right? I like the concept, approach and design as well as the scents for his house. There's also Malbrum Perfumes that offers some unusual, artisanal type fragrance I haven't seen anywhere else.
