i wanna know what weird/unique/strange fragrances you have. you can go by your own standards or the vague concept of what is unique or strange to society. show me your frags!
most unique/oddball fragrance you have?

Chrysoptera
Saltwater on skin, the iodine in seaweed, the metallic scent of all the electrolytes in the ocean. A wet bathing suit left in a hot car.
Personally, I think Malìa is the most intriguing, unique scent I have ever smelled. It's like a journey through time, almost like a happy, intriguing LSD trip.
Also, and this is sadly discontinued, but Le Feu d'Issey was something that was like a fiery UFO crash that evolved into something magical and mesmerizing. Still lucky to have a bottle that I store securely and grab a hit once in a while.
Onice in my collection literally smells like the frost inside of a freezer. I guess that's why it's named "on ice"
In a not so good way; Orphéon Eau de Parfum : Spraying this feels like russian roulette. Smells different with each wear: First time sampling, it smelt lovely, powdery and chic and I bought it based on that experience, next day I was like: 'What on earth did I buy?!' It smelled sceptic and musky and awful. Another day, it was okay again, but I can't get passed what I smelled that second day, so since then, I'm always afraid it may smell like that. especially because it is hard to get rid off.
In a good way: Jicky Eau de Parfum Very aromatic and unique, I never smell this on others and it's beautyful.
Digitalis be smelling like outside
i keep coming back to read this reply, and it keeps cracking me up, thank you
If I should pick only one, I'd probably say Zombie for Him. Super unique in every way: concept, notes, smell. 😄🧟
I love this topic! Weird fragrances are the my favorite (even if I can't always wear them).
My favorite oddball fragrance is Writer's Blood. It smells like a number of strange things: a hospital, artist's ink, and coffee. Yet it's strangely wearable an addictive.
My least favorite oddball fragrance is Penguin, which smells like a dentist's office. Though I want to give it another shot some time, because it's really intriguing. Several other Zoologists are contenders for the position, as well.
XI: L'Heure Perdue smells more odd than most niche wannabe edgy brands. vanilla and latex balloons 🤤

i tried a sample of penguin and it was sooo disappointing. MOST reviews i read said it was very cool/cold, smelled like a freezer etc w no mention of how the dry down is pure cashmere def unique, just not what i was expecting
Nice thread, thanks!
I give my tuppence with 20Mars2022 which is an extremely dark smoky intergalactic thing (well, too me).
@Lempi I could finally put my nose on Zombie for Him is Friday, and I remembered your post on it! This weird thing is really well done. I might buy it - but in what occasion could I wear it?
@ScentNebula wow Writer's Blood seems to be something!
Deus Ex Machina smells like machine coolant, and
Woodcut smells like a pile of sawdust. Not the sort of things most people want to smell like, but I sure do!
And my sample of Horla confuses me every time I spray it. It's not weird in that it's offputting, I feel like it'd be fairly appealing to most people, it's just weird in that it's very difficult to pin down.

Yay, awesome to hear that you enjoyed it! 😁👍 I fully agree, it's very well done and having niche-like uniqueness despite its low price tag. But yeah, it's definitely not easy to wear. I guess it fits well to dark autumn and Halloween time, and it would probably also work when going for a meditative walk in a forest because it has deep mysterious earthy forest notes.

Horla sounds fascinating! Schrodingers perfume...
I'm a relatively basic person, so the the biggest outlier in my collection right now is Dans le bleu qui pétille which smells like lit mosquito coils at a smoked fish market.
But if we're talking about both odd AND great quality perfume for daily wear, then I'm yet to come across anything better than Comme des Garçons 2. It came out in 1999, and yet in my book it's still a peak example of sensible uniqueness ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ )
I’m not very adventurous with fragrances but Guerlain Insolence is very adventurous for me. It’s such an intense, almost bizarre fragrance but it was the only one in my collection I could even faintly smell when I had anosmia from covid so I sprayed it on myself several times. it’s so intense I smell the bottles (I have eDt and EdP) from feet away from the shelf they are on. I’m starting to enjoy the scent more (at first it was too much for me.)
I’m severely tempted to buy a bottle of Shalimar Souffe but I’m worried I’ll hate it.
@UrsawDans le bleu qui pétille sounds SOOOOO interesting, i love weird highly specific fragrances like that
Pool smells like eating gazpacho by a swimming pool in a jungle AND is incredibly wearable and smells amazing.
A long gone one, Signoricci 1. Take Chanel N° 19 and add tons of tobacco leafs in the blend.
Lush' Ginger is somehow reminiscent of it, without the class and finesse.
