pencil shavings

hello! so, a while back, i saw someone refer to what i believe was Amber Vanilla as the "pencil shavings final boss." i completely and entirely disagree! HOWEVER, i looooove the pencil shavings quality of You Eau de Parfum and the like--it's the only reason it stays in my collection as i haven't met a scent that is MORE pencil shavings than You. i was wondering what some of your guys' MOST "pencil shavings"-esque fragrances you've tried? preferably, derived more from wood notes than aromachemicals, and without a noticeable musk. if you've got any, thank you!

Hey @DesireeM , agreed about the pencil shavings quality of You Eau de Parfum !

There are a bunch I’ve smelled with this feel to them, and I’d probably have to sit down with my test list to think of which one had the most noticeable/dominant portrayal.

But I did find there are quite a few fragrances “tagged” by users with this term too, in case you hadn’t seen them while you’re hunting. Good luck, and hope someone shares a great rec for you!

@DesireeM totally fair, I get when there are too many options to go through it might feel more like a chore lol.

Hopefully someone will have a spot-on rec for you! 🤗

I don’t know if you can get this where you are but if so Neon (2023) has a pencil wood shavings smell to me. It is the only fragrance I have ever smelled that has that kind of woody smell to me and it is very strong in this fragrance.

Please do try Iris de Syracuse. It's the king of pencil shavings and one of the perfumes I can't live without.

Wow, nice to know that tags function works like this. I had no idea what the point of that was. I'll be more careful when writing my tags from now. Thanks!

To me, the pencil-shaving note comes from cedar and sandalwood, so I tend to seek out those notes when chasing this accord. A good example is Tam Dao. The EDT is sharper, more woody. True pencil shavings, while the EDP goes creamy, like soft, creamy pencil shavings.
