Milky muted pina colada
This is a very interesting fragrance from Byredo and also amazing. First whiffs smells like a milky sophisticated pina colada that is sweet with a hint of pineapple, even though it’s not in the fragrance notes. It’s creamy and sweet with the coconut water, I usually detest coconut perfumes because they give this sunscreen scent but not this one. Has to be the first coconut perfume that I enjoy. I feel like this is what Blanche Bette should have been and how I imagined it would smell like. I love this, great for warmer months, but would be interested in wearing it in cooler temperatures too as it’s so cosy. Give it time to develop and test it, it’s truly lovely!

God Is a Neon Frog
-You're stuck in Orlando for a week with your mom and little sister. That’s what summer vacation looks like when you're from the Midwest.

The hotel lobby greets you with a fountain straight out of the movie Splash. You say it outloud. No one laughs.

Upstairs, the room is a humid time capsule.
Tropical leaf bedspreads, pink wallpaper peeling
like sunburnt skin. A flickering nightstand lamp struggles to stay alive. It smells like coconut air freshener and mildew. The AC groans in the corner, condensation dripping onto the carpet, blooming dark stains like bruises.

Your mom’s on the phone with the front desk, asking for a cot. Your sister whines from the bed. Outside the window, pale kids from other Midwestern towns cannonball into the pool below.

“Get ready,” Mom says. “Dinner’s a big surprise!”

You groan. All you want is to stay in the room, let the AC freeze your soul, and watch some half-funny sitcom reruns.

Instead, you climb into the sticky rental car, thighs fusing to the seat.

The surprise reveals itself in the form of a fake volcano, a waterfall trying its best, and a neon plastic frog glaring down like it knows you hate fun.

Rainforest Café.

Your mom claps. Your sister gasps. The frog keeps staring.

You briefly wonder if the volcano is hot enough to jump into.-

for very clean divas
A rare squeaky-clean amber. An aldebrox? An ambrohyde? Fresh laundry, coconut water, and a fuzzy, dulcet musk. The coconut is raw, freshly cracked. Nothing reminiscent of sunscreen or body butter, and unfortunately only lasts the opening hour. However, its sparkly, spun-sugar heart hit 6+ hours on skin. Recommend testing on different substrates, as I found it a bit of a personality splitter between skin (hella ambroxy), paper (hella aldehydey), and fabric (just right). Overall, smells remarkably akin to the Bal d’Afrique Absolu, in that same sweet-n'-clean family. A great option for those who might have found Blanche too sterile or Baccarat too sticky.

Mental Snapshot: A celestial laundromat. Dirty clothes go in the machine, white cashmere and golden chiffon comes out. One of the spin cycles is called “candyfloss.” You are pleased to find the iridescent bubbles drifting from your wash are made of helium and glass candy.

tl;dr: Laundromat Rouge 540

Creamy warm sunlight on the skin
Could it be? Have I finally found the perfect unisex gourmand?

I was told the scent feels like a summer dream - captured in the bottle.
Cooling, milky coconut water meets the transparency and clarity of aldehydes. Ambroxan, cashmere wood and sandalwood provide this warm creaminess, so enveloping and almost skin-like.

It smells like open windows in summer, like sunlight sparkling on the skin and accompanied by a warm tropical breeze. For me, it's an absolute unisex gourmand that simply does everything right, because it never becomes too sweet or sticky. And that's exactly what I was looking for! The subtlety of the coconut water is incredibly photorealistic here.

As soon as I put it on my skin, I immediately realize: this is the fragrance I've always been looking for. It's not a typical generic 08/15 "tropical sunscreen coconut" fragrance. This fragrance has depth and elegance. From minute to minute it becomes creamier, more enveloping but it retains a certain transparency that never makes it too overwhelming or dense.

I can smell the subtle sweetness of the coconut water and from minute to minute the fragrance inspires me more and more, because the enveloping creaminess that picked me up at the beginning has remained - after an hour only with this fine woody depth. So I had to buy a 100ml bottle and I am more than thrilled. This fragrance clings to me like a sunny, radiant second skin and transports me to a Brazilian dream. In Brazil, Alto Astral is said to stand for an attitude to life: colorful freedom, lightness and a good mood. And that's exactly how the fragrance smells.

I was more impressed by the longevity and sillage. This fragrance has radiance! Even though I love wearing the brand's minimalist, close-to-the-skin fragrances, the new Alto Astral is louder and the sillage is noticeable. A gentle veil of coconut accompanies me through the day.
I can still smell it on my skin after 8 hours and I can only say one thing: I've finally found you!

Screechy, synthetic, cloying coconut syrup. Giving gourmand Sephora body spray vibes. Test card was stinking up my room, threw in trash.

Great aldehyde/coconut water/incense start. Warm, dry, desolate sunset. Then ruined (for me) by javanol and cashmeran in dry down…
