Fashion and fragrance designer Jean-Louis Scherrer originally wanted to pursue a career in ballet. However, Scherrer, who was born in 1935, turned to haute couture following a back injury. In 1956, he became the right-hand man of Yves Saint Laurent, who was employed by Christian Dior at that time. Simultaneously, Jean-Louis Scherrer began his first attempts at fragrance creation with aromas of violet, lilac, and magnolia as the dominant substances.
Through a very wealthy friend, Scherrer was then able to open his fashion studio in 1962 in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, where he worked from then on under his name. A little later, a clever licensing agreement made it possible to sell the label's creations in the USA as well. Big names from politics, sports, and culture made haute-couture fashion more popular there. In the 1980s, Jean-Louis Scherrer's creations progressed and became the most exclusive, highest-quality, and expensive haute-couture in the Western world. In 1990, Scherrer had to leave his company because his creations were no longer compatible with the ideas of his partners.
In 2009, Jean-Louis Scherrer was awarded the Legion of Honor for his services to his homeland and died in 2013, aged 78.
His noble fragrances - along with his bespoke fashion creations are considered very exclusive, classy, unobtrusive, seductive, and sensual in high society.
